Rebarrelling a Remington 700 with a Criterion "Remage" Pre-fit

  • In this video I update an old Remington 700 to a "PRS" style build using the "Remage" barrel nut, recoil lug and Criterion barrel from James at Northland Shooting Supply.
This is my first time separating a factory Remington action and barrel so there was a lot of learning. I know there are lots of gunsmiths out there with a ton of experience, but for someone who is looking to do a Remage on a factory set-up might be worth watching this before deciding if you want to attempt barrel removal yourself or have a local smith do it for you.
Video on my thoughts about the Area 419 Hellfire system: • Thoughts on the Area 4...
DISCLOSURE: in this video I received no payment for promotion. Because I've ordered a few things in past directly from EGW they did give me a modest discount on the HD Rings.

I just received my 300 black-out from Northland, I'm looking forward to finishing my build. I run a small pig removal business and sometimes I'm in areas where a miss or a pass through can't happen. State overseers require center fire with copper or lead free projectiles. The components are easy to come buy and reloading to low velocity but yet driving tacks at 50 yards or closer is a must.
    Good luck with your build.

300blk subs supressed are very quiet - I have a Rem700 with factory barrel and Silencerco ammo that can shoot inside .75". I was astonished.

So it is not a Remington 700 your just using the Remington action🤔 to go to the range and play but you will still get get vertical distortion and it will take longer to cool down. 🙄🤔😱💩

Really interested to see how it shoots. Considering getting a 6mm Creedmoor Criterion barrel from northland or McGowen which I already have one rifle barrel from there that shoots sub half inch (6.5 PRC). May let your next video be the deciding factor! Hoping for another half MOA shooter. Thanks for the content.

I only put 49 rounds down the pipe in a break in session. Saw some decent groups but want to have the barrel settle out before making judgment. I'm guessing 1/2 moa center to center.

Over 30 years ago I bought a Simmons 8 point scope for a deer rifle. I found that at daybreak or at dusk during legal hunting hours I could not see well enough to judge rack size to shoot an 8 point or better as I was required to do. I found over time that the rule to spend comparable money on your scope to your rifle. Buy once cry once. Vortex and Athlon meet that criteria

Did you try any WD-40 at the barrel-receiver joint? I usually let mine soak over night before removal (for savages). Was thinking about changing to a .223 Remage barrel for Remington 700 SPS varmint in .223 Wylde to get a better twist rate than 1/12, but I don't want to ruin the factory barrel if they have it practically welded on.

    • @UWMitch

I used PB Blaster for a couple days. Granted my barreled action is at least more than 20 years old so that's probably the leading factor in how hard this was.
