Troopy has 2x90L tanks = 180L, so massive touring range. 5 star ANCAP is for single cab only. The Single cab had an updated strengthen chassis to meet this for the mines/fleet buyers. Others are not 5 star.
Gr8 video!!!! I purchased a 70 series Toyota Land Cruiser in 1984…. It was a short wheel base unit…. I paid $34k in NZ$….. it was an excellent car to use in my construction company!!! I had up graded from a 1972 FJ 40 SWB Land Cruiser which I had dropped a 283 chev V8 into!!! The biggest problem with the 70 series was that it was a one unit body system. If you damage the vehicle you could not replace individual sections!!! Unlike the FJ 40…. Also the on road drive was like driving a Bronco, horse, very bouncy!!! But I sold it in 1986 for $36k!!! A brilliant investment!!!! But the best thing about the 70 series was it was a is a work horse!!! On the farm, down a coal mine or in a construction site… it did the job!!! You wouldn’t take the new Defender down a coal mine or onto a farm…. It’s to pressive!!! Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🎄🎄
Sure, its offroad, "go anywhere" prowess is a key feature why so many buy the 70 Series. But two other key features you missed mentioning are its impressive durability in very tough conditions, and its bush repairability - a reason IMO, why it is still offered with manual wind windows. And all of these is why NGOs in many developing countries makes the 70 Series their go to vehicle.
Let's hope the turbo version performs well, one of the key features for Toyota engines was their underpower delivery, compared with the power offered by engines with the same displacement offered by other manufacturers. Having a “relaxed” running engine was one of the reason Toyota engines last so long.
This 4 cylinder 70 series cannot beat the V8 version of 70 series, not even close. But this 4cyl will surely fill the market gap. Its V8 engine and manual gearbox make this vehicle even more lovable. It's a feeling that binds us to the vehicle. And the exhaust makes some of the best music I've ever heard.
Many years ago I drove FJ45’s in the PNG Highlands. They were as rough as could be, but could go almost anywhere with their huge thirsty (originally a pre-war US design) petrol engines. The Land Cruiser 70 Series is ultra modern and superbly comfortable by comparison! Great review, thanks.
Where the V8 will be better is being under stressed and that’s where longevity comes from. The 4 pot may perform better, but it has the wick turned up more to access that performance, and it can’t last as long like that.
Toyota are on a roll right now. The one that I'm eagerly waiting to land on our shores is the new Prado and the new smaller FJ. One of them could be my next daily.
You need to check facts before doing videos. Troopcarrier has 180L tanks still - 2 x 90L so has the best range of pretty much any vehicle on the market. Also you need to understand torque - V8 develops max torque at 1200rpm - much lower than the 4 cyl which means better drivability and better fuel consumption in tough going.
99% of idiots, acting for 2.8L, don't even understand the difference between true engine testing and testing for marketing purposes. For them, even a 1.5L engine would be 'cool, awesome, does the job, it's ok mate,' if a good salesman is in front of them."
What is being bought is sure engineering for over landing and off-roading. It's not a suburb cruiser. Useful for mining, farming and other rural services.
Although l will never own a Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series to much for me and l will stick with my 1997 Toyota Hilux single cab rear drive aluminium trayed ute with 436000 kilometres have owned for 4 years and paid $1500 for it it has needed a bit of work to make it registrable in N.S.W and l have researched my Hilux also it is a petrol and it worth much more than what l originally paid for it and the motor is the famous 22R motor renowned for its reliability
I hope toyota decides to bring these to the UK, especially now its fitted with the 2.8 engine which is exactly the same as the hilux which is already sold in the UK
Sorry the fact of the matter is that the 2.8 lt engine is highly factory worked and the v8 is under powered from the factory that is the only reason why the 2.8 has sum power.the 2.8 will not last half as long as the v8
Is the long waitlist due to excessive demand, Covid19 driven supply shortage, or just Toyota telling lies? Covid19 supply chain delay is essentially over at this point.
There is a long list of back orders to fill, with this prompted by a combination of excessive demand and the knock-on effects of supply-chain issues. Cheers, CG
@@motorsportfreak1 More like costed, G-class Pro haven't been sold anymore in years (to private customers). Which won't happen soon considering the battery weight in electric vehicles. Because You'd want to have big range (especially in Australia) in offroader and that means bigger batteries. Even hybrid offroaders (check Wrangler hybrid) are noticeably heavier compared to their gas conterparts. You don't want that much added weight in offroad vehicle.
@@Kierdziol sure, but you very often know where you are going, what conditions you can expect. This is why Mercedes and some Chinese brands build heavy off-roaders (the new G will have 4 motors). And BTW - it wouldn't surprise me that in AU people will take solar panels with them in the future - you can get even 1kW/m2, panels are thin, you could take 10m2 with ease, which could charge you within one day ;-)

By comparison, back in 1984...
V8 might be slow but at least it uses lots of fuel.
I get 2 kilometres per litre towing my 20 ft van and tinny on the roof all up I’m 6.2 tonnes. It’s horrendous but the thing just keeps going 2016 79
The 78 Troopy has 180l fuel capacity-not 90l as you stated.
He wouldn’t know that, he was in nappies when the v8 was released let alone a 75 series😄

Unless you live in the bush, owning one of these is stupid.
Totally agreed even any of the Ute on the market if you don’t really need to use it as a Ute than it’s a ripped off for the price they asking

I wish that Toyota bring this version to the States
Shares about the same high demand as our beloved Suzuki Jimnys it seems. 🙌🏼
Living in the bush and would still rather our hilux more comfortable same motor and way cheaper buy in price.

There a difference between supply shortages and high demand. The GWM cannon outs sells the 70 series each month.
Completely different category of vehicle. But ok mate
I'll take this beast(in SW or double cab GXL guise) over anything any day!.thats just me & thats how much i love this beast!.🎉❤

Troopy has dual 90 litre fuel tanks.
Price are insane
The best vehicle for apppocalypse
Love your review
Love this car .. take my money 😍😍
looking forward to the cybertruck or basic grenadier.
so in PNG 🇵🇬 we also get the face-lift but still with Manual stick
No they brought in the Auto also
Troopy has 2 x 90L tanks
Some want a reliable car not a mobile phone on wheels,
Incorrect, only single cab has side air bags
Since when troopy had 90 l fuel tank.
Launched in 84 too bad the price hasn't stayed the same
Well done sir❤
Under 35? Dude im 30 this year and i grew up with winders
previous 70 series version was better in front looks.in this present version headlamp shape, front grill, bonnet looks weired.

A lot of money for a very basic work horse.
These are cheap to buy
NOW 2024 toyota hillux vs 2024 79 series...
i think the Hilux wins
Why pay 90k for an outdated design and concept? 50k would have made some sense to me.
No doubt it’s tough and reliable, however way over priced for what you actually get.
It’s like a g wagon professional. It’s even more basic than a 70 series, I mean ultra basic yet cost more than most luxury European cars.
