    My first military flight was in an S-3 as a Midshipman in 1980. The following summer, I got to ride along on the USS Ethan Allen for a few weeks. SALT Treaty had turned it into a "Slow Attack" sub by that point, so all the missile equipment had been removed by then, and they had a really nice gym on board where the launch controls had been!

    Assuming they modeled this, The mistake you made with the RAC5 was that you were flying tangent to their radar, essentially "notching" it making you harder to detect. Once they picked you up, you flew directly away making you much easier to detect due to the doppler effect. Lowering your altitude by 1/2 adjusting your heading to stay close to tangent but moving slightly away would have been a safer move. (again, assuming that's modeled in the game)

    Hi Aaron! Refreshing to see a real navy guy play the game, awesome to hear about your experience in the navy! Just a heads up: Optimal cruise and loiter altitudes are way higher than one might think, should be around 25-35k @ 0.5 Mach for loiter, or .8 Mach for range-cruise

  • @quicknickucf
    @quicknickucf Месяц назад +3

    at about 59 mins you are firing radar guided missiles. Not sure if it is modeled in the game but likely what is happening is the target is notched to the radar source being the F-14 (semi-active missile Fox-1). The bear would flare chaff also so the chaff would easily confuse a target that has a green doppler profile. Fox-3 active homing missiles would be less susceptible to this but alert the target that they have been fired on sooner. Would be interesting to know if they are modeling that into the game though. Also altitude is your friend Air combat. The missiles would have greater range at higher altitude. Most CAPs sit at or around FL60 unless they are responding to something. They adjust from there depending on the engagement and requirement.

    • @thetrainshop
      @thetrainshop 6 дней назад

      He requested 1 launch of a Phoenix, so rather correctly, the pilot got high and fast to increase the range of it against the designated target. The opfor aircraft wouldn't get an RWR hit until the 54 goes pitbull if they're engaging it with TWS

    One question 32:41 why do you/why does Jive put the Sonarbuoyes in a straight line?
    Wouldn't putting them in a irregular zig zag be more beneficial, to ensure better angles for triangulation, so contact is less likely to be inline with detecting buoyes?

    This is quite concerning considering we're less that 2 weeks from early access. The RTB bug is a game stopper and the Database is still all messed up. Most of the Soviet long range SAM should not be able to engage sea skimming target (SA-N-3, SA-N-6) which should leaves only the medium range SA-N-7 on the Sovremenny and all the SA-N-9 short range launcher on the varies ships.

    As an Oregonian, I had the privilege of going aboard the USS Blueback, who’s role in the film is a little disputed (I was told she was the ship filmed during the emergency breach, but Wikipedia informs me otherwise) but whatever, she’s there at OMSI for everyone to visit!

    • @fwfs
      @fwfs 29 дней назад +1

      I work on Blueback, I'll clarify for you. The sub that did the emergency blow and shot out of the water in the film was USS Houston; an LA-class sub. Blueback's role in the film is all of 4 seconds. It's at about the 28 minute mark when Capt. Ramius is talking to his crew. He mentions going to Havana, Cuba and there's a shot of 3 sailors looking at the camera. That was in Blueback's torpedo room. Those sailors were Blueback sailors paid $50 each, had their heads shaved, and dressed in Soviet naval uniforms. If you blink, you miss it. There were more scenes filmed in her torpedo room for the movie, but they got cut.

    It is great to see you in action once again, Aaron. I thought Cold Waters was difficult enough, but Sea Power ...... wow!!! I think Sea Power might be just the right sim to hop aboard after "graduating" from Cold Waters. Just a thought, how about come up with a "mirror" version of the Hunt for Red October? (i.e., A US boomer trying to defect to the Soviet Union and the US Navy is on hot pursuit. 🤣) I liked the way you have explained Soviet missile tech in the middle of this episode. Folks who are interested in the early US-Soviet arms race, I recommend "Target America: The Soviet Union and the Strategic Arms Race" by Steven Zaloga. It provides a decent overview of early Soviet strategic nuclear, bomber, missile, and sub programs. As for why the Soviets did not put together their own AEGIS, I think this might have something to do with Soviets lagging behind in computers and internet. For example, in case of the US, the groundwork of what would eventually become the internet as we know was laid out by university computer science departments with decent civil-military and public-private relations. In other words, horizontal integration made it possible for the US to leap ahead in computer and internet by a considerable margin. By contrast, the Soviet/Russian tendency towards top-down and bureaucratically feudal power structure hampered its own computer and internet research. To make matters worse, civil-military relations was not great in the Soviet Union. For instance, the Soviet military liked the idea of internet, but only for itself. and attacked cybernetic specialists who were proponent of single dual-use nationwide network and several of them were sacked.

      Good point Wojtekoa. With the salvo option does the operator need to select the number of missiles? Or does the computer decide how many are launched? I'm looking forward to working with other operators on this when the game releases.

    Both the AIM7 and AIM54A are semi active radar homing. They require constant missile guidance otherwise they go dumb. Not sure if they’re modeled correctly in sea power though. AIM54C was the first fire and forget missile variant.

    • @luked7525
      @luked7525 Месяц назад +4

      From what I remember with a few conversations I've had a F-14 Rio, this is not quite true. As Aaron explains in the video, the AIM-54A uses the radar from the tomcat (Usually in TWS mode) to track its intended target until the terminal phase. At this point the AIM-54A "Goes Pitbull" and activates its onboard radar (about 11 miles from the target, directing itself onto the target.

    • @msytdc1577
      @msytdc1577 Месяц назад +3

      @@luked7525correct, the difference is that the A model if it lost guidance prior to terminal phase it would not activate its own on board radar, and was essentially a wasted shot. So the A model was essentially a Fox1, with a time limited Fox3 mode terminal phase, providing some advantage that the launching plane could go cold defensively, or be free to engage targets on other radar vectors.
      The C model was designed to still use guidance from the launching aircraft for the majority of the flight, but should guidance be lost, it would activate its own radar and do its best to still engage the previously designated target, even if the parameters are not the best, it wasn't really a good fire and forgot missile unless well within the engagement envelope (short range shots).

  • @aikencorona22
    @aikencorona22 Месяц назад +6

    For an experienced person, you sure do keep making small mistakes. You keep targeting those Helo with AM-54's but your tomcats are out of it. You also keep wondering what your units are doing. It would only take you a couple of seconds to look at the status of the unit beside the loadouts of your units. It literally tells you the amount of ammunitions left. And for the love of god, read the contact numbers and verify it with the status if the unit is engaging the target you want. You can also pin the circle on the ship. The circle keeps moving with the ship as long as it's detected.
    Besides that, GG's.

    I'm assuming you knew the EA6 weren't jamming the ships when you started the A6 strike as they were too far away, they need to be inside the purple cone...when being jammed you'll see the sunburst symbol beside the enemy icon. Also, Engage With > AGM-84 > Salvo 4 would've done what you wanted there ;)
    Also, don't use weapons free, they will ignore any commands and try to fire any and all weapons. Stick with weapons tight and salvo fire and you're much better off.
