I always assumed people mean an actual vegan dish or meal. Like a stirfry with tofu instead of chicken or a pasta dish without any cheese or that wasn't cooked with butter and has some plantbased protein with it. And maybe a dessert after that like a vegan cheesecake or mousse. I mean at regular restaurants vegans often have to craft a dish out of sides and ask waiters that the chef leaves off things like dressings, sauces or cheese.

Cows are so much cuter than horses, at the very least. Yet people don't want to kill horses.
People also don't care about the welfare of hamsters, even though the general public views them as cute. (Syrian hamsters are used in a lot of memes.) The number of people who literally OWN one of these rodents, and still couldn't care less about its well being, is astonishing.

Damien Roberts you might want to do some research on that. Most horse meat comes from domesticated horses (racehorses being a big one) who are routinely given drugs that will harm humans before their slaughter. There’s almost no system of verifying how long they have been drug-free before slaughter, either- they’ll literally just take the owner’s word for it, and horse dealers lie about this all the time. Horse is not clean meat by any stretch of the imagination. Google “Backstreet Bully” for a start.

It’s such an easy transition to make when you understand the respect for other sentient beings and over time watching your content and agreeing with everything you say it does just feel wrong to consume animal products now. I’m honestly amazed because this change in my mindset sort of snuck up on me unaware from watching your content and changed my inner views even though I always “loved animals” and felt horrible but didn’t think I could really do or change anything (I loved your video on compassion fatigue btw VERY true) Your approach is THE BEST I have seen, and I think leads people towards long term success in cutting down on suffering in the planet and showing that small changes over time make a difference to simple DO BETTER not be perfect. Really appreciate your content as always. Keep it up (sorry for the long rambly comment but I’ve been a viewer for a long time and wanted to let you know the impact you’ve had- I really never planned or thought I would be vegan or even try to move that direction but I now believe it only makes sense to try and cut back as much as possible on my contribution to suffering)

We just finished the latest season of The Magicians on Netflix. It's so ridiculous and oddly appealing in its silliness even though often it makes no sense. I chuckled at your references.
Also, I am 3 weeks postpartum and I just watched several of your videos about PPD and your birth stories. Thank you for being so honest! I am also one of those people who hate being pregnant (the magic hair and clear skin are nice, but also my face balloons up which kind of dampens the perk). I don't really like the newborn phase either, and now with a toddler at home too it's been a pretty tough adjustment. I don't know if you'll see this but I just wanted to say I appreciate the open discussion of a possibly more taboo subject. Although I will say, I used to think people with poor sleepers just weren't trying very hard, but my first kid never had trouble sleeping in a bassinet and this one has been so tricky even though we're doing the same things. (Re: attachment parenting video I think.) So you might have gotten very lucky!

On the cheese topic, in Europe, there are vegan cheeses that are cultured exactly (or almost) like any dairy cheese and they taste amazing. Not the amazing-bc-there-is-no-good-alternative kind of cheese, but truly just amazing ones. They replace camembert, gruyère, ... and spreadable cheese (they can have a crust, a gooey inside and cheese flavours because of healthy bacteria and not because of additives). If you ever come across one of these where you live, you should definitely give it a try :-D Great video by the way!

I totally get the cheese thing. I was never a big cheese eater so it wasn't that hard for me to give up and I barely use the vegan cheese options cause yeah...they are not great. And a lot of my friends say they could never give up cheese but also a lot of them have started to use oat milk and started to reduce the amount of meat they are eating. Some have even gone completely vegetarian which is great because it's a step in the right direction and I love it!

I really related to the part of the video where you talked about how you can’t really do anything without seeing animal exploitation, even watch a TV show or something. I experience that all the time. Sometimes it can take a toll on me mentally to know we still have so far to go as a society to even recognize animal suffering as something that is not casual or a joke. But you’re right we have to just push it out or we can’t go on... it can be hard though sometimes because it’s just coming from all sides all the time.

I’m so happy some one agrees with me. I volunteered at this rescue place for farm animals and most of the animals there were pigs. I told several people that pigs (adults at least) are just flat out ugly, and that’s okay. I’m not vegan because I think animals are cute, I’m vegan because I don’t want to contribute harm onto others. That’s it. Being cute or not has nothing to do with something’s worth or value.

Now, I've purchased some original fabrics for Daenerys, Margaery and Joffrey costumes and they were definitely silk, leather etc. But it's nice that they respected the wishes of the actors.

I have never have related to anything a RUclipsr has said *more* than your comments about having pets. I grew up with cats (1 at a time), my husband & I adopted a male cat who lived 13 years. About 4 months later, we adopted brother & sister littermates who just died in the last 1 1/2 years -- lived 17 & 18 years. Caring for these elderly cats was a labor of love but the clean up almost did me in. I'm not getting any younger & am concerned I could not keep up with the clean up if we adopt another cat who lives 15+ years or a puppy who has to be trained. Sigh. Never say never but an animal would have to break into my house in order for me to make the commitment again.

Yeess IKEA actually raised the prices for meat hot dogs a little while before the vegan ones came. Then they raised the price for meat more and made the vegan ones cost what the meat ones originally cost. I think they did the same with the ice cream. It's nice to see big corporations take steps like this for the environment!

I have a question... I’m not vegan but I’m trying to switch over to a more plant based or at least vegetarian lifestyle so I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. I just finished watching the one about freelee and Jenna marbles and freelee mentions that Jenna should get a pig or a chicken which led me to this question: if you have your own chicken or maybe a few chickens and they lay eggs on their own, they’re not fertilized, it’s just like an egg you would buy at a store, is it okay as a vegetarian/vegan to eat that egg? What else would you do with it? How does that kind of work with the lifestyle? I’m genuinely curious about this and wan to know others opinions and thoughts on this :)

    • @19Thunderbird94
      @19Thunderbird94 4 года назад +1

She's talked about this before, that if you treat the chickens well, don't kill them once egg production drops, it's fine to eat eggs they don't want. I think possibly the main issue is how you get the hens in the first place. Buying them at a hatchery might mean the male chicks got killed. Perhaps you could ask the people you get the chicken from, using sexed sperm (so 90%+ of the chicks are female) is possible after all. Some also euthanise male chicks instead of tossing them in a shredder (they can be used to feed pets and animals at sanctuaries that need whole prey in their diet)

Lol I actually thought the Golden Globe menu sounded amazing. We have a restaurant in our vicinity that serves similar food. I love how creative some chefs get with vegetables. I actually hated mushrooms before tasting a really good mushroom risotto. I mean yeah I understand why it can sound unappealing to some people but I think this is so much more interesting than the same old bean chili or veggie burger. I can have that anytime. But eating vegetables that have been prepared so lovingly in a way that coaxes every bit of flavor out of them? Not doing that at home.

To comment on the "but there's so many alternatives now" meme: Not to mention finding all these alternative meats and cheeses are really region based. When you live in a big city, sure it's super easy to find everything. But I've been in the middle of nowhere (on the road from El Paso to Austin in this case), and finding these alternative products doesn't happen. Also now living in a different country, it really changes the dynamic of finding these alternatives. Not to say they aren't here at all; They are, and I eat them all the time. But all these brands that are super tasty and awesome, don't always exist outside of the US/UK/Canada.

YES! Especially since the majority of the world's population doesn't live in North America or Western Europe. Just saw one of these tweets where they were like "look how easy it is to be vegan" and they picked up stuff like daiya shreds, vegan Ben and Jerry's, vegan yoghurt, vegan mince and pretended like it's some small minority/ extraodinary case when someone doesn't have access to that (living somewhere remote or in a food desert in the US). Or straight up telling people to just live on rice, beans, veggies and peanut butter because that's just as enjoyable and is gonna satisfy someone when they want something meaty or some ice cream 😂🤦‍♀️

Cows are so so cute! Where I live there are (unfortunately) a lot of cattle stations and I basically tear up every time I drive past. They have such beautiful eyes.
I think what makes pigs cute is they’re intelligence. My friend has a pig who is huge and she is so funny and sassy. She hates beetroot and if you give her scraps with beets in she will give you this withering look and go and sulk until you remove all of the beets! She has her family well trained.
