I always find reunions like this magical. Seeing as two veterans embrace each other letting out such raw emotions then seeing how after so many years, they're able to live a long life raising generations... it's beautiful
Thet are indeed blessed! So many returning Vietnam Vets were treated horribly. They did not come home to reunions with families and friends, parades were not given in their honor, jobs were not offered to them, help with health and PTSD were not easily available to them. Many of them lived homeless, and many still do. Many turned to drugs and alcohol as they were constantly belittled and told they were worthless. Those that fought for our country should never have been treated so unjustly. I like to believe that the generation who behaved so badly has since learned their lesson. I, for one, am very thankful for their service and consider each one a hero.
They spent the war dropping incendiary bombs and chemical poison on cities and jungles, massacring remote villages, and fighting in support of a corrupt South Vietnamese dictatorship that was almost as bad as the North was. And then they lost, and all those deaths were literally for nothing. The Vietnam war was unjust and illegal, just like Iraq. We should never have gone in the first place. It was a gargantuan waste of lives on all sides and nothing was gained.
The hell over in vietnam is beyond words. But for these 2 warriors they got too grow old. See their kids and grandkids grow up.. It brings such joy. God did bless them🙏🙏
Its amazing when these gents get in the company of other men who have experienced the same, they just break down and drop the protective shields....so emotional, and I think it needs to be done more to help the healing. Amazing men
Great reunion. So moving and emotional, what a history/story. And there are so many true, amazing and untold stories we will *never* hear, unless the vet is our family member, neighbor, or whatever.
Many years ago, a client at the office where I was working was a Vietnam veteran. One day we were talking on the phone about his case, and somehow that subject came up in the course of our conversation. I thanked him for his service to our country, and he just broke down. I quickly apologized for upsetting him, and he told me it was just that no one had ever said that to him. It broke my heart. I sometimes wonder about him; it was one of the many cases/clients I dealt with that I’ll never forget.
The troops who returned from Vietnam were never welcomed home and were certainly never thanked. People criticized and booed them after coming back. They couldn’t speak about what happened without ridicule and shame, though not many wanted to after everything they’d seen and done. Most didn’t even choose to enlist. About 2/3 of the soldiers were drafted. America drafted them, sent them over to die, forgot about them, then made them the villains when they survived…
I really like it when Nam Vets see each other after all these years. I’m a Nam Vet, Chu Lai 68-69 1st MAW but I’m horrible with remembering names but aside from that, most all of us had nicknames. So, the chances of me meeting up with the guys I was in Nam with are pretty much ZERO. Sad but true.
Thank you for sharing this moment with all of us gentlemen. Thank you for your service. Thank you for my families Freedom. May God Bless each of all the rest of your days.
Thank you for sharing this. I hope soldiers of these wars that are obviously for some hidden agenda understand that the average American citizen APPRECIATES THEIR SACRIFICE. They do as they're told. Most of the time times it's for good reasons, sometimes the government uses them as pawns. It's not their fault. They showed their devotion to their country. They were tested and shown to be of the highest integrity. There truly is no higher love then giving your life for another.
On the battlefield, the real battlefield, there is NO racism, just you, and the guy next to you that will keep you alive. And THAT is real friendship. Their tears are a witness to those moments.
Wasn't Gil Carrillo one of the detectives on the Night Stalker case? What a life he must have lived. Survived Vietnam and then get assigned to one of the most prolific serial cases ever. Damn. Mad respect!
Gil was also a legend Homicide detective for the LA County Sheriffs Dept. I had the pleasure of meant him and he is probably one of the most genuine people you could ever meet.
God bless these two men. Not only did gill serve..he was the main effort and main detective on the Nightstalker case Richard Ramirez. God bless both these men and their family’s. For god and country. ❤️
I served in the Military 20 years after my Military service , I had a chance meeting of a good buddy of mine I served with Much to my surprise he wanted nothing to do with me Guess not all reunions are happy ones, mine sure wasn't
That is sad. I recently met up with one of my old shipmates. We are both Vietnam Veterans but were on different ships at the time. After Vietnam we served on the same ship together. I recently connected with another shipmate that I had in Vietnam, but only in a Facebook group. After the Vietnam War, I wanted nothing to with Vietnam ever. It has only been within the last 10 years or so that I felt welcomed back and was thanked for my service. I now wear a Vietnam Veteran ball cap with pride.
It’s hard to reconnect with former battle buddies! After the war is over, and you’ve finished your career in the military, you find yourselves half a country and worlds apart!
I always find reunions like this magical. Seeing as two veterans embrace each other letting out such raw emotions then seeing how after so many years, they're able to live a long life raising generations... it's beautiful
For those that don’t know Gil also known for catching the night stalker and interviewing him after he got caught.
What a legend of a man his service and for catching ritchard ramirez and no one believed him at the start as he knew it was one killer not serveral.
Thank you for mentioning that. I thought he looked familiar
I went to comment the exact same thing. Great documentary on Netflix.

This man served his country, his community..That's what I call a true American patriot.
