- Today me and sheepdog herding dog storm set out to do a tough training session as we do some dog trials style training
We have a difficult course and lesson in store for storm today
We start with a simple fetch gate then into a more difficult cross obstacle before ending at the shedding ring where we will split the sheep in open field

You have amazing control over Storm. It's obvious you two have put in the hours together. Beautiful to watch.
All about having a close bond
Someday, when you and Stacy ( Stacey?) are having a bad day, I hope you come across this comment where I tell you how much I love these videos and they always pick me up when I’m having a down day. I appreciate this peek into life across the pond. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all!🥰
Amen to all you said!!!
You are in Wisconsin, home to a famous Anglo-Catholic Seminary.
This is an amazing video. Thank you. Storm is working so hard and will learn a lot more under your kind guidance. Well done to you both.
Storm is my favorite, love her! She never fails to amaze me with how intense her focus is. Sean, you and Storm both did well! Storm's jump at the end was a lovely moment.
Thank you
I only recently found you and your absolutley brilliant dogs. I find myself needing to watch at least a few of your videos every day.
This video is so interesting! Storm is so intense as she watches and directs those sheep. Her eyes never leave sight of them and her ears are soley focused on your voice. Fantastic job splitting and directing by the both of you.
That'll Do! ❤
That’s something!! Storm and you are one heck of a team!! Seems to me like the sheep were Learning from this too!😊
What a savvy little dog. A joy to watch.
My BC absolutely LOVES your videos! He only has to hear your voice and he's on my lap to watch within seconds 🤣
So beautiful to see such communication. I sometimes wonder whether the sheep get to know the commands as well?!! "Meeeh. Meeeh. Sheee'llll beeee coming now! Meeh."
Good girl Storm! This was so interesting! Please do more of these challenges. (Even if the sheep are probably wondering WTH you're doing).
Sean! Storm figured that game out really quick. By the second run at it she totally had figured out not to put too much pressure on the sheep, and had mostly figured out what your objective was. Really impressive for the first and second try!
Wonderful example of a happy dog.
Kristine S< When you said " I just need that one sheep to turn" then he did that was precious, storm so want's to please besides loving his job, he's a keeper, Happy Holidays to all!!!
Wow, that’s quite a challenge! I love watching the animals interact!❤
I absolutely adore these dogs, they are brilliant at what they do. My husband wants one but it wouldn't be fair on the dog as they need lots of exercise, not just a casual walk at his pace.
Love, love, love watching them all racing together. ❤
Hello hello to you lovely dogs
Learning something new is often difficult. You and Storm are really working on your partnership. Thumbs up to you both!👍❣️
I don't have sheep, but I love your videos. I had a heeler who has since passed away, and now I have two mini Australian Shepherds. Herding dogs are so smart and driven. Which is both the good news and the bad news!!
The sheep knows all the commands. 🤣🤣
when i see a dog work sheep i think that's the closest thing to real magic i'll ever see.
Wonderful work, Sean! You're a great team, you and Storm are. Brilliant!
Wow! This is hard work for human and accompanying animals. Those sheep are Wiley.
Amazing what your dogs can do. Thanks for sharing
Hi Sean!
Love your channel and your beautiful dog family!
Keep up great work!
❤🇺🇸👌🤩
I love watching your videos. Some good and not so good moments there. But hey, that’s life!
Storm could probably heard cats 😂
this is more challenging than any video game out there!
I take it this is Scotland by your dialect. Beautiful country.
Fantastic!!! I love your videos and I love your dogs.
The sheep left in the pen were probably watching and taking notes: probably plotting to be naughty next time 😂
The Love & GoodCare Ye share witn BorderCollies is HeartWarming
looks like good direction with a little opposition. all good. keep working. great training so far. great video.
Please Sean, do a xmas meeting with your staff. Your meetings are so fun.
"We're either gonna look like we know what we're doing, or we're gonna look like fools." Honestly, it sounds like you're dealing with an angry and defiant teenager 😄 But that is one really good dog 🥰
I absolutely love watching your videos. The dogs are very intelligent. Thank you ❤
Thank you very much!
Really enjoyed watching you two work together. Are you planning to do competitions, or just having fun learning something new?
Is anyone thinking..att’ll do pig? lol.
Actually... it's Baa Ram Ewe
Good
👍 ❤
Question? Are these your sheep and what type of breed are they? 🐏 🐕
Yes and Hebridean sheep from the Hebridean islands
Love your channel. Stormy is so focused and intense. She always aims to please. What a bonus when jumping into your arms.
Glad you enjoy it!
I could watch that all day! Storm is one smart cookie but, those sheep aren't no dummies either! Good job! 👍
these are the black sheep of the family......
@@JH-th9thThat's so funny 😂
@@JH-th9thNew Rock group-Sheep Doggy Sheep. 3 bl/w BC, 2 r/w BCs with a blue eye and a brown eye each, and an all bl BC. Their music consisting of their owner's "Away, Come by, Walk on, Stay, Lie Down, Steady, Wait, etc.
For the most part, Storm is wonderfully responsive. She has an amazing ability to anticipate the next move correctly. Great training and partnership. Love how she jumps into your arms, as if to shout, "THAT WAS SO FUN, DAD."
Such fun ... sorry, English teacher here 😊
Most people I've met would have trouble understanding what storm does. Multi times I'd swear she was anticipating the next command! So smart!
The concentration on Storms face is amazing! I think the sheep were laughing....I could be wrong😂
I think experience has shown them he's not gonna hurt them!! 😂😂
After watching a bit more.. I think the sheep respond to the dog's commands!! 😂😂
I love sheep. We malign them and call them 'stupid'... but I've got a feeling they're the opposite!! Especially in Sean's Farm! Cushy life... lovely dogs. 😍
😅
those sheep are a bunch of stubborn anarchists .....
They are definitely feisty these ones, just itching to make a break for it and cause mayhem - not on Storm's watch!!
That WAS a tough one Sean. Storm is excellent as usual. She makes me laugh with her JOY of working and her not always wanting to "lie down" :) The speed that she listens and then undertakes your commands is wonderful to behold. The love she has for you surely shows - up in your arms after a job WELL done. Your sheep are looking really well too. You two are the hard working country folk that this world needs. Thanks!!!
It’s so cool to see you and the dog work together for the safety of the sheep. Safety bc when out in pasture, you and dogs control them, moving them from pasture to pasture. If you don’t work together, the sheep will flail….its just so damn cool! I love it!
Thank you
Learning to train for competition is very difficult for dog and herdsman.
I've wondered...
Do your sheep learn the commands as well?
That was exactly the question I have! Secondly, do sheep know the sound of their masters voice or is that just myth?
@@windsonghillranch4306 You didn't answer the question.
SeeYa!
Oops! You did ask us to comment about how Storm did. Sometimes she does not listen to you and I get the sense that she is not disobeying you. I just think she knows what is best, because she is that good!
There's truth to what you say. The BC knows how much pressure they can put on the sheep because THEY are the one who is closest and is "reading" every reaction by the sheep. They are also quicker in their ability to truly assess what's actually happening versus ANY human. It is one of the reasons WHY they are SO valuable.
she did great as usual! and i really loved last jump into sean's arm😂
I liked that too! So sweet
@@Pjsafa7373yeah, it is😂
Thank you
Would be wild to know what the sheep are actually thinking :) Looks like everyone involved got a good workout. You always seem to have a good choice of music to go with the videos. Thanks Sean.
Ozzy Man voices the sheep 😅
Thank you
Storm's focus is amazing! Question: Storm is aces on her commands, but do the sheep also understand the commands she's getting? It seemed in a few spots, the sheep were reacting to your commands to Storm. Almost like... ok, he told her to do this, so we have to go here. Also, are Miss Kate, Storm and Echo good at protecting the herd from predators? (Not ignoring Good Boy Monty, but we all know he's the house couch potato 🙂 ) Or are predators not that big of an issue there? Great vid, Sean! Thank you!
No predators 🙂
So herding instinct is different from guarding instinct but predators are not really a big problem other that foxes
At least in the US, a fox would be destroyed by a sheep. They are all bluff.
@@seanthesheepman5845
What a workout! Storm is anticipating your commands. After a few more runs, she will understand that you're doing something a bit different. What a good girl! Merry Christmas to you and Stacy and to all those great dogs! Enjoy every moment.
One of the things that becomes apparent is that the use of a whistle is quicker and more efficient than verbal commands. Recognizing that most sheep herders use the whistle... isn't a choice that they make just by chance. They know by experience that the whistle is more efficient in so many ways. With that said, I'm thinking you will have a better herding result if you migrate to the whistle instead of voice commands. I'm so glad you treat Storm so well and reward her with your acknowledgement if her good work. In time, she will do even better because you are meeting her emotional needs.
BTW... the music is good. And at the beginning of the video, Storm exhibits the classical BC "loving" where they're ITCHING to work and to please... both at the same time. It's one of the reasons why I love BCs over other breeds because they are unique in this way.
Thank you I do use whistle as well but mostly when working in a bigger area but yes some dogs respond to the whistle better than voice storm being one who likes the whistle better
Sean,
It must be twice as hard to train as you look through the camera and you are keeping an eye on Storm and the sheep. I am always impressed by your skills as a sheepman and by the skills of your dogs. Thanks for an interesting video.
After watching your videos over the last year, I am always impressed with their performance. Improvement is inevitable when you work, play, and train with the dedication you have.
Wishing you and Stacy the happiest holidays and many more to come!!❤❤❤
Thank you
That dog just loves to do her job...she definitely thinks at least one step ahead. Watch the vid where she and echo have to take the sheep up the mountain and then back down the other side. Several times the trail got narrow and she had to get the sheep at the front of the pack moving but could only influence the ones in the back where she was. To watch her literally studying the problem before acting just blew my mind. Working with echo she got them home safe ...and then sprinted to your 4 wheely bike and launched herself onto her spot on the back from almost 10 yards away. She stuck the landing with tail and tongue waving around furiously. She was pumped! What a dog !
Storm-it's just amazing how you can keep Sean in just the right place to help you get the sheep where they need to be. Humans can be so hard to train!
Another great video. Of course I'm all here for your amazing dogs, but I really gotta say I love these sheep. They seem quite the characters and always make me smile.
Storm jumping into your arms - what a lovely moment to watch, what a lovely way to end the training session.
Thank you very much!
It’s amazing how you and Storm work together.👌🐶🙋♀️
It’s always amazing to me that you and Storm “read” the sheep. This video showed me again how you and the dogs are partners in the field for close work. And of course how much the dogs want to work THANK YOU
The sheep are sort of getting trained, too, or at least learning what the signals mean, to anticipate what the dog[s] will do, and trying [usually unsuccessfully] to outwit them. Sheep are smarter than conventional wisdom gives them credit ror, but the dogs are smarter still, and the combo of human and dog is top-notch.
The sheep may not have listened to the briefing 😂
Well done Storm n T'Manager 😊
Storm loves Sean and is so happy when he recognizes her good job!!
It’s a learning process for both of you. A lot of quick commands that would leave my head spinning if I were her. That exercise took a lot of precision from you and storm was your tool. Good job on both of your parts in this task.
Thank you
I just love to watch the bond between Sean and his dogs. Miss Storm is such an intelligent, responsive worker! I could watch this all day. ❤
I think the only thing Storm needs to do is talk. She did great. She almost knows what you want the sheep to do. Quite amazing.
Storm is an amazing dog. Blessed holiday season to you, your wife and the dogs.
Such a smart dog! The sheep are learning too 😊
Storm is so happy to do her work and get your praise Sean. When you finish and let Storm jump into your arms she knows you’re proud of her. It’s her ultimate reward.
Beautiful job! At 11:20 Storm was so excited to take them back through the crossed cones again. I love watching Storm ENJOY her job!
I can't stop watching this. It's like a real-life video game!😅
I'm amazed at Storm's focus. She wants to do her best for you. Loved her jump into your arms. She's the best❤❤❤ Blessings to you & Stacey.😊
That was rivetting. Especially the end when the dog nearly jumped over you!
That was amazing. 😊 I love watching your working dogs! And Storm jumping up for you to catch her was the best! 😊
I hope you and Stacey and all of your dogs have a Merry Christmas!!
Absolutely amazing. Both of you did very well.
Sean, you’re an amazing teacher with Storm (and Echo)! They’ve both learned so, so much, and are a pleasure to watch. 💛
Loved the video and Storm is the best...so smart. I really enjoyed the running commentary you edited in for us to understand the thought process and the actually understand what you need the dog to do for you. Two thumbs up for this one and Storm!
Thank you
I just love Storm. I always think I’m gonna stop in for a minute, give a like, and move on. Somehow, I always stay to the end.
Well thanks for sticking around
Babe the pig made it look so easy 😅
GOOD JOB ! 😊 Takes much concentration. Well done ❤ Best part is Storm had a WONDERFUL time and was really pleased with the job which she clearly demonstrates at the great leap into your arms at the end.
Excellent handling 🎉😂❤
Storm did well! I could tell she was wound up tighter than a spring when she had to lie down, but (for the most part) she just waited anxiously until she could be on the move again 🐾 The jump at the end got me! ❤️
Very cool. The second run was definitely better than the first. Storm is amazing and she just doesn't like to stop and leave them alone. She thinks she knows what should be next and so sometimes doesn't wait and listen. It's a fine balance between both. Glorious training session.
The connection between you and Storm( not to exclude lovely Kate and Echo of course!)is more than mechanical training. Their enthusiasm remains unmached. It is always a pleasure to watch❤❤.
Awe..storm is awesome and you put in the time and effort and it shows! Love your channel!
Herding sheep is like controlling a flood. It’s amazing you and Storm can keep them in check at all!
I would absolutely love to pursue shepherding as a career but I don’t know where to start any tips?
In New Zealand in the early 1980s, one fo the rural tv programs decided to cover a sheep dog trial season. They covered it like a rugby match - commentators, national anthem, the whole thing. It was a major hit on tv. The dogs and their owners became national celebrities and the series rated its head off. It was so exciting - far more exciting than most people expected. "Bill just has to get all four sheep around the far post and then into the pen in the next 90 seconds to earn a place in the finals..." It showed how the skill of the farmers, and the skill of their dogs, and the way they communicated together made a winning combination, with a little bit of plain luck added in with the sheep that were randomly drawn for their trial. Maybe the sheep were cooperative maybe not. That element of luck added to the excitement becuase it was never sure whether last week's champion was going to win this week.
What fun! I enjoyed that nearly as much as Storm did 😂 Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is like walking a tightrope, balancing the sheep. I cannot imagine the hours it takes to train yourself and animals. Wonderful! Merry Christmas...SouthTexas
What a wonderful partnership!! Storm is just a dream to watch. Sean you are so good with her. She gets great encouragement from you. Job beautifully done!!
Hi Sean, great video of the Obstacle training. At least to me, Storm seems a little too intense and almost frightening the Sheep. I'm not sure exactly how it should be but maybe that is correct. Enjoyed the ending of Storm jumping up into your arms. Storm seems like a very loyal and dedicated dog.
What an amazing dog. Love the team work.
I swear the sheep🐑🐑🐑🐑 know what you are telling Storm to do and they do the opposite on purpose just to watch her work harder! Love watching the pups work. But Storm is my favorite! ✝️God bless you and Stacy, may you have a beautiful and blessed Christmas 🎄!season!
Thank you merry Christmas
Jolly good show. ❤🇦🇺
Such a delight to watch you and Storm work together! Thank you for this pure pleasure!
Every time I watch your videos I get a whole new appreciation for the amount of hard work and dedication it takes to train and maintain your dogs and yourself for that matter. It’s never ending. Love your channel and content. ❤
Always great to see a new video when wake up here in the US. Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good work! Storm is so smart and responsive to your commands!
That was T-U-F-F, tuff! Storm did so well! Those sheep are such a challenge. Very intense to watch. Thank you, Sean.
