CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Indiana (Harrison Ford) drops the bridge on Mola Ram (Amrish Puri), but he's not out of danger yet.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The second of the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg Indiana Jones epics is set a year or so before the events in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1984). After a brief brouhaha involving a precious vial and a wild ride down a raging Himalyan river, Indy (Harrison Ford) gets down to the problem at hand: retrieving a precious gem and several kidnapped young boys on behalf of a remote East Indian village. His companions this time around include a dimbulbed, easily frightened nightclub chanteuse (Kate Capshaw), and a feisty 12-year-old kid named Short Round (Quan Ke Huy). Throughout, the plot takes second place to the thrills, which include a harrowing rollercoaster ride in an abandoned mineshaft and Indy's rescue of the heroine from a ritual sacrifice. There are also a couple of cute references to Raiders of the Lost Ark, notably a funny variation of Indy's shooting of the Sherpa warrior.

It's because he decided he had to work out like crazy to credibly play a character who was one year younger than he was in the last movie, while Ford himself was actually four years older. Ironically, most people didn't even realize the movie was a prequel.

Harrison Ford is the ultimate childhood hero for many of us. From Han Solo to Indiana Jones, he's a legend.
Yes, for any boy growing up in the 1980s or even 1990s you just loved Indiana Jones, he was the definition of the action hero. These films were on TV all the time. It wasn't just the fact they were well made, great stunts and action and iconoc music but it was the pacing too, it was literally one thing after another. He was presented as so unapologetically macho too, it was the ultimate escapism.
I loved the James Bond films too fir their glamour, action, stunt work and humour, he seemed the coolest man alive, I loved Batman 1989 too though the dark tone and grim hero was not so fun for a child.
Every generation has their hero I guess. For boys growing up in the 1950s it was probably John Wayne in his westerns or for a boy growing up in the 2010s it's Iron Man or something I imagine.
As an adult I also appreciate him so much too in Blade Runner and Witness. Blade Runner is maybe the best looking film I've ever seen, the lighting, the colours, the visuals, the use of shadow and smoke and rain and Neon lights. Ford plays his part so well as the jaded antihero who starts to reexamine his life through his actions in the movie.
Witness is also really well made and so different to Indiana Jones, there's a lot of restraint to it, the story is really smart, the chemistry between the two leads works and I liked the climax.

i always liked her character in this movie. she added comic relief. you didn't get that in any of the other indiana jones movies. her running around the jungle and screaming while indy and the kid were playing cards was hilarious.

Can we talk about Dr. Jones's skill? I mean he had the smarts to know Chinese in the first place and specifically told shorty in Chinese. I know its a very minor detail but it speaks volumes about Jones.
Indys mastery of world languages and knowledge of local customs/traditions is part of what makes him the best archaeologist in the world

Fun Fact: they had to do the actual bridge cutting in one take
I bet they did.
When the bridge snaps in two near the end of the film, Spielberg knew he only had one chance to capture the bridge successfully doing so. He and his crew reportedly had nine cameras rolling once the bridge snapped. To his vision, the bridge snapped in two in just one take.
They also completely coated it with sand so it would leave a brief afterimage of itself when it snapped and fell.

Such a awesome scene... Its funny that Indy totally has faith in Short Round securing himself and Willy. Short Round was a hell of a partner that deserves more in the Indy Universe. This kid had some serious courage and always followed what Indy said. They counted on each other.
It is an UNBELIEVABLE SHAME that he wasn't even asked to participate in IJ5. No matter what, Ke Huy Kwan would have made his own scenes with Jones wonderful.
Seeing him sacrifice himself to save Indy with a "I love you, you were always my dad" would've been BRILLIANT. 🎭 But... nope.

Amrish Puri just had the look of a Villain. I’ve seen so many Indian movies of him playing always the bad guy and he obviously always ends up dying in the end. His face and his eyes is what makes him a perfect villain.

Indiana Jones, Legend of a movie series. Honestly, with the first being the greatest, this one comes real close. Again with the top storyline, soundtracks, and characters like "Short Round" really made this movie what it is. One of the most under-rated moves, I'd say in Indiana Jones Series, where I don't understand why It get's so much undeserved hate. Anyways, no need to read this, just go out and watch the movie for yourself. Literally indescribable . What a blast it was to re-watch it on Christmas, and how we got to see his adventures continue, and new sides of it. They really don't make movies like these anymore. Pure adventure, comedy, and many more.
