- A classic escape scene complete with Nazis and - of course - the Jones Boys...
--
I do not own this film. Fox does - well, Disney does now, I guess. And they'll probably slather it with ads. As is their right.
RIP Sean Connery. 90 years later, your life was an adventure.
It was my introduction to Sean Connery. He was so funny in this movie.
He was such a legend
Yes it was
Dr. Henry Jones, Sr.
The Highlander
The original James Bond
He was truly amazing!
@@princessmarlena1359 And Draco from DragonHeart. “To The Stars, Bowen. To The Stars” His most touching line. 😢
"Germany has declared war on the Jones boys."
Absolutely classic. I love this movie.
@raymondbrereton3298what?
Bond villian was in For Your Eyes Only.
@@RaymondBrereton yes, I already know that, Julian Glover portrayed the Greek Aristotle Kristatos in For Your Eyes Only.

“What?”
“DAD!”
“WHAT!”

Sometimes I wonder if Harrison and Sean add libbed that part.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 They makes me laugh too hard. My dad loves this part makes him laugh.
I’m surprised that hasn’t become a 10 hour loop yet.

One of these scenes i think they were just literally bouncing off one another improv
Pretty much my relationship with my dad
Can we all take a moment to realize how casual Sean Connery said that the floor was on fire because to me that just makes the scene funnier
"I have to tell you something"
"Don't get sentimental on me...wait until we get out of here"
"The floor's on fire...see..."
"WHA?"
"Ah-And the chair"
Connery's comedic timing was perfect in this film

Do you think they know one another?
As you might expect, it was a huge laugh line
You don't have to ask everyone to join you in "realizing" something. Just say the thing you "realized".
I like how Indiana keeps smiling at Henry Jones after he does the takedowns of the Germans, but then Henry just frowns and checks his watch.
Poor Indy was in that awkward place between Make Dad Proud and I Wish my Dad was a cool adventurer
Almost every Spielberg film has some element of a strained father-son relationship, based on Spielberg's difficult relationship with his own father. Always a son seeking his father's approval somehow
@@commanderkeen3787 Except in Jaws, where Brody actually had a good relationship with his sons.
Because James Bond would have done it so much faster and better.
Henry Sr. did smile when he saw Indy going for the jousting maneuver using the flag pole
1:10 The disgusted look Indy gives his dad always cracks me up 😂😂 Ford's facial expressions are underrated
“Dad! 🤨”
Last Crusade is one of the last movies me and my late mom watched together before she lost to her cancer. Seeing this brings back so much cherished memory. Miss ya mum.
Think about your mother when you go to see Dial of Destiny. ;)
Sorry for your loss. Hope you're doing alright mate. She sounds like a really great mum
My condolences 💐
Trivia: Julian Glover, the bad guy in this film, was seriously considered to play James Bond after Connery left the role. He even screen tested for it. However, he was eventually deemed too young. The next time he was considered, over a decade later, he was deemed too old. As a consolation of sorts, he played a Bond villain in For Your Eyes Only, opposite Roger Moore
He was also a recurring character in Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back
@@adamrooney517 And voiced the big spider in Harry Potter and the Chamber of the Secrets
@@adamrooney517Yep. He played General Veers the commander who led the successful AT-AT attack on Hoth. He was also one of the few Imperial officers not to get choked out by Vader.🤌🏿😵
Wouldn't it have been smarter to wait until the Nazis really drove away with that boat?
That’s the thing about Indy, he never really thinks things through
"I don't know, I'm making this up as I go..."
Would have saved some of the film's budget
Exactly what I've been saying
I’ve been wondering that for the past 30 years lol
"Our situation has not improved"
"We are pilgrims in an unholy land"
"He chose... poorly"
This is part of why I love this movie!
‘Our situation has not improved.’😂😂😂😂😂
RIP Sir Sean
First thing that came to my mind hearing of connery's passing. What a beautiful performance.
True i will missed him a lot
His star power overshadowed how much of an excellent actor he was, never wooden, always convincing
Also first thing lol..."The floor's on fire." Lol
God he will forever Rest In Peace.
1:43 fun fact: in the German cover version Vogal actually said “and this is how we say goodbye in the SS dr Jones”
honestly makes sense when you think about it
"And this is how we say Goodbye in Germany Dr. Jones."
"Oh God, you're gonna kiss me too?!?"
"WHAT?!? NO!!!"
Indy: I liked the Austrian way better
Henry: So did I
YUP!
And the Austrian way would still be preferred. Lol.
This is exactly why this is my favorite Indiana Jones movie. The casting of Sean Connery was perfect!!
"I thought I'd lost you boy" 🥺
@joelbennett9014 Why are you sitting there resting, when we're so near the end? COME ON LET'S GO!

What an era of cinema. Great actors, a fun story, and rousing soundtrack. I wonder sometimes if we'll ever have films like this again.
Nah, too much regulation and strain from corporations. We have missed the era of good cinema, we have missed the era decent society and now we all be doomed to live in a clown world.
3:48 Dad! What? Dad! What?! DAD!!! WHAT?!
Stuingtion Hahaha. They had great on-screen chemistry!!
Stuingtion I’ve just rewatched this section and I think the part that I love the most is that the only part of the the room NOT on fire... is the fireplace 😂😂
XDDDD
Head for the fireplace!
That was the best part of this scene lol
What an amazing scene. In this action sequence, we gain so much more than simple action. We get:
- Indiana's Dad's pacifist views, with his constant disapproving looks at his son's cocky attitude towards violence
- Indiana's own feeling of disappointment, when his dad's disapproving looks harm his effort to impress, and reminds him he is still a child
- The use of Indiana's Dad's philosophical intellect (sitting down, the solution usually presents itself) is better than Indiana's frantic panic. Philosophically, this means it is better to be calm and rational, than fast and careless
- Indiana's cunning, by going for motorbikes instead of the obvious boats, he is subverting the obvious rigid thinking of the Nazis with free thinking of the free world.
- Dr Schneiders views - she sees them as the same as Indiana's. But they are not. "I'm sorry you think so" has more meaning than you think. The goals may be the same, but what really matters is the means on how to get to the goal.
- We also see the Nazi war planning room, and get immediate impressions that they were competent, organised and technologically advanced. Their intellect and prowess was bent to nefarious and evil purposes. We must not forget that Nazi atrocities were committed by educated, organised and affluent men and women - they were not loud, blustering lunatics, but methodical, reasoned and learned people who believed wrongly in racial superiority, to the erasure of all else. We must not forget this - lest it happens again.

- the floors on fire, see...
- what!?
- AND the chair!

Elsa Schneider: Thank you, Herr Obërst!

Everything Sean Connery says in this movie is iconic
My favourite line of his is “Son I’m sorry…..they got us!”
Yep
"What happens at 11 o'clock?" 😂
“My boy we are pilgrims in an unholy land.”
"I find, if I just sit down and think- GAH!"
"DAAAAAD-OOF!!"
"Solution presents itself!"
I simply can't get over that melody they use for the Germans in this film, particularly at 3:11.
It's used so often and I love it every single time.
Funniest part in the whole movie is how he catches the building on fire

RIP Sir Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 - October 31, 2020), aged 90
You will always be remembered as a legend.
I don't think most people notice how his dad, despite being a grumpy square guy, praises Indy for his ingenuity
Did you know the "Alarm!" Woman was the inspiration for Frau Farbissana in the Austin Powers movies.
Cool
FIRE THE LASERS!!!!!
3 pips and a bar on collar insignia, and 1 pip on shoulder. Obersturmfuhrer (SS 1st Lieutenant)
I always thought she looked like Frau
At first, Henry is delighted at the way Indy improvises during the motorcycle chase, but at the end he resumes his disapproving 'intolerable' manner. Those generations had a tendency not to show a lot of emotion or be very demonstrative, that's why at the end of the tank battle, fearing Indy was dead, Henry was genuinely moved when Indy had made it off the tank after all. And later, when Henry was shot, Indy only cared about saving his dad, not the grail. Spielberg knew how to show this, not tell, and that's the mark of a master. Today's movies never really prepare such an emotional exchange like that into their characters or plot. They just slap you in the face with what you are SUPPOSED to be emotional about. You can see this coming a mile off and mostly, unless you're a teenage girl, you're bored. Point is, we need better directors to have better movies. We'll never see this type of Indianna Jones again.
we need better studios who care about something other than a quick profit by making very expensive but low grade garbage. good luck with that in a society whose ONLY value is profit.
BACK IN MY DAY
“Always do what the doctor orders “ oh, how that line would come back to haunt him…
"He chose... poorly."
Aaand the chair. Love that delivery, gets me every time.
Those looks of disapproval at 6:58 and 8:53 always crack me up lol.
1:43 This is how we say goodbye in Germany, Dr. Jones!!!
I like the Austrian way better.
@@fawful94 So do I!!
@@fawful94 I think Austria way better. 🇦🇹
To me, how this movie was made makes it special. The practical effects and traditional Hollywood style is what will make this movie last forever.
I always love the way they grin at the Nazi woman who smiles pleasantly back, before yelling the alarm.
2:42 Why didn’t he simply tell Indy that he dropped the lighter? Like:
Henry: Boy?
Indiana: Not now, Dad. Burn the ropes off with the lighter.
Henry: That’s going to be difficult, because I dropped it. (Indiana turns around to see the lighter on the floor)
Indiana: Well, whatever you do, don’t blow at the flames, or they’ll spread.
Because the actual lines in the film were much, much funnier?
henry believes he has things under control and can put out the fire before telling indy
15-something years watching this film and I just noticed the extreme irony of hiding in the fireplace... to keep yourself safe from fire
I love how Spielberg injects comedy into the most intense situations! It’s like being tickled while playing a game of Operation. LOL!
Zee sign reads: "NO ACCESS! RESTRICTED AREA!"
I always loved the look of realization on Henry’s face when he sees what Indy’s going to do with the flagpole. It’s being used as a lance for a joust! For a medieval history buff like Henry, he’s getting the best seat in the house for a joust, and he’s all for it, getting to emulate the heroic knights he’s studied for years.
Great smile cracking on heraldry-obsessed Jones Sr’s face as he realizes his son is about to joust.
4:12 going backstage at a kanye concert be like
Why do the bad guys always have the best music?
John Williams
But the good guys can steal it.
Got to love how Indy is called on his earlier bluff about Marcus.
'Are you kidding? I made that up. You know Marcus. He got lost once in his own museum.'
😂 Absolute comedy gold and sublime chemistry between Ford and Connery in this.
I love the Bike chase scene. So iconic
2:48 look what Henry jones’s father has done he’s burned the floor
Another indiana Jones film should have been done a year after this one , with these 2 legends again , one off best father son duo ever , great chemistry! Junior my boy !
Did Indiana’s father know about the chair or was that just luck?
Just dumb luck I guess.
It’s just like he said
“I find that if I just sit down and think the solution presents itself.”
“Our situation has not improved”
That’s an incredibly chill line considering the amount of danger they are in; but then again, not surprising since he’s 007 and has been through it all
3:09 The villains always get the best themes.
The comedic timing of this scene is unrivaled.
Still the best Indiana jones movie ever
I was expecting Elsa to say "What's wrong, Mr Bond ? Jealous of your son ?"
Would've been funny if he replied with "no I'm not as my son is Han Solo" 😄
4:42 AAALAAAAARRRMMMMM
4:41 The inspiration for Frau Farbissina. XD
I was just thinking that.
6:25

Indy and his dad are lucky that those guys shoot like stormtroopers.
the way he says "" And the chair"" at 3:03 still cracks me up...after so many years...

The chemistry between Connery and Ford is great.
Elsa: [to Indy] I'll never forget how vonderful it vas.
Professor Henry Jones: Why thank you. It was rather wonderful.
Elsa: [kisses Indy] Zat's how Austrians say goodbye.
Colonel Vogel: Und zis is how ve zay goodbye in Germany, Dr. Jones.

Indiana Jones: I liked the Austrian way better.
Professor Henry Jones: So did I.
Honestly it may have been worse if Vogel said goodbye the Austrian way
@@bartlett247 Haha, I was also thinking that when I saw the movie last week again. 😄
* We see Indy's eyes becoming big on hearing that *
"No, it's fine when you say goodbye like how they do it in Germany."
Obviously Elsa did the same thing to Henry
2:45 Henry just made things from bad to worst.
I can't believe that Harrison Ford was born on 13/7/1942 at the same time as my grandfather!
6:40 "Okay men, get after that empty boat!"
Connery literally sounds more annoyed than worried when he says the floor’s on fire🔥😂

So many years of cinema since and they still haven’t made an adventure film quite as good as this.

@@christopherorta8755 Standartenfuhrer is the SS equivalent.
@@warrocketajax373 yes I know. It's hard to forget the infamous, yet iconic, black Allgemeine SS uniform.
@@christopherorta8755 I think you mean Standartenführer, a "Standarte" is like the insignia of a division or corps most of the time on a pole, so that somebody has to carry it. When somebody says Standartenführer, he refers to his position on the front of his corps insignia.
I’ve always loved to see when Jones have a chance to meet one of his family especially his dad.
Why do I remember only half of this hilarious escape? 😂😂
2:34-2:44 that’s what I don’t like the zippo lighter from tilting over to light a 🕯. However, I only used the utility lighter as long as it’s safe not to burn 🔥 ourselves.
One of my favorite scenes from all of the Indy movies.
With all of the Indiana Jones movies post-Raiders having some sort of unique gimmick (like Temple of Doom being the darkest one and Dial of Destiny being the grand finale), I feel like this one was meant to be more of a comedy, and that opinion is validated by this scene alone.
The Austrian and German ways of saying goodbye, the nonchalant "The floor's on fire", "Our situation has not improved", the Joneses spinning around multiple times and eventually seeing that Nazi woman (nervously smiling at her, she smiles back and then starts screaming at the top of her lungs), Indy falling down the stairs after his dad sits down in the chair... all of that is in this one clip alone, and there are plenty of other brilliant moments.
If it wasn't meant to be a comedy, it was, and if it was, then mission accomplished; it's hilarious.
This is like the time Stan and Roger were tied up in a burning barn full of pot and got super high.
4:37 I like how Indy and his dad are trying to flirt their way out
1:26 Holy smokes. I wanna go to Austria, and say goodbye to a bunch of women there.
3:39 Germany has declared war on the Jones' boys.
Traitor Donovan.
"Don't try this at home!" --Harrison Ford during the Shooting of this daring escape from Vogel
It’s funny how so many actors from James Bond films appear in the Indiana Jones saga. For example: Sean Connery (James Bond), Julian Glover (Aristotle Kristatos), Allison Doody (Jenny Flex) Pat Roach (Lippe), Mads Mikkelsen (Le Chiffre).
"All I have to do is squeeze"
"All I have to do is scream" lol
This was the best movie, and secretly his origin story.
7:29 he nearly lost his bag
It has come to my attention that Mr Jane here has performed a vicious act of vandalism, a personal attack on me.
"If I just sit down and think...the solution presents itself" I have lived with that qoute for 20 years and hasn't failed me since
This scene and the tank battle are my favorite parts of the film.
3:49- My brother and I use to reenact this scene all the time 😂
I just realized it went from dead night to broad daylight in about 2 minutes, lol. How have I NEVER caught this before. *facepalm*
Hollywood could not have chosen two better actors to portray father and son than Connery and Ford. They are perfectly believable!!! 🤗
RIP Sean Connery 😢
3:48 Indiana Jones: dad
Henry Jones: what
Indiana Jones: Dad

The irony.
I think I hold the worldrecord of number of times watching this movie
First he burns down the castle, then he accidently shoots the plane tail rudder... Looks like the years have gotten to you, Mr. Bond.
Can we take a moment to realise that Jones left 5 soldiers to die a horrible death in the burning room.
I think this by far is the best Indy Jones movie. The second one was dark, the first was OK, the last, does not exist in my canon.
Wait til you see the next one.
I think Phoebe Waller-Bridge is really going to make us appreciate The Crystal Skull... :p
I love this movie, pretty much every element of it is my favourite in the franchise, best score, best action, best story, and undoubtedly best characters.
