Exactly my thoughts each time I watch these stories pertaining to missing persons smh like something has to change!!! Especially for kids 13and under they should not have to be missing for 24hrs,not at all!!
Yeah that old system needs to change with the times. The average American nowadays has a phone and can call and check around for where their missing friend or family member is in minutes and determine if the person is really missing. Where as decades ago people were not nearly as connected and checking with friends and family took almost all day and the person would be found safe at a friend's house asleep or something. Thats why there was the 24 hour rule. Police resources were "wasted" by worried parents whose kids were just late getting home. Most of the time!

I have a 31 year old stepdaughter. When I discovered that her former boyfriend was being verbally abusive and threatened her, I confronted him and said that I wasn't afraid of jail. To watch his back. She finished the relationship and he left her alone. Please, families. Get involved and show these cowards the same medicine. They always retreat. If Maddie was my daughter, he was the one being missed.

Good for you! I was 37 when I stayed at my parents’ while obtaining a RO and getting the sheriff’s to escort my abusive ex out of the house. I’m forever grateful to my family for their efforts in keeping me safe during that scary time in my life.
Good for you! I was 27 when I left my husband of 3 years. We had a 3 year old. Was pressured to marry him because of the pregnancy. He was emotionally abusive but he started becoming physically abusive 2 years into marriage. I plotted my escape, woke up after a nasty fight where I was forced to lock myself in our guest bedroom because he physically stopped me from leaving the home to go to my parents and yanked our toddler from my arms injuring her. I made up my mind that night I would leave him the next morning after he left for work. I didn't tell him or my parents (for fear they would accidentally tell him) where I moved for months. Drove around the city until I found an apartment that would give me a key that day. Left with nothing but what would fit into my car. Filed for divorce and waited the mandatory 6 months required by court. Celebrated my freedom and safety once I realized he "moved" on. It only took him a few months to find a new girlfriend. I do think I saved my life. He continues to be abusive. He is divorced again. Unlike some abusive men he openly proclaims to be a Narcissistic megalomaniac. He wrote an entire online blog about his self destructive personality. However he denies ever abusing me.

It makes me so mad that in this day and age police departments are still lying to people saying they can’t file a missing persons report until the person has been missing for 24 hours.
Usually family and friends know their loved one and know when something's wrong if the person has always been consistent about contacting them or being there when they say they're going to be there ... and this is why some people don't want to wait 24 hours because they just know something is wrong and for that person to not contact them or show up is totally unlike them

Hey thanks for getting us out there there is not much press in Minnesota uploaded at all which was really discouraging so we appreciate you getting her name out there... as one of the many women who have been in her position knowing it could have been me breaks my heart and I want to encourage your family because at least you believed her. Most of my family and friends were behind him in many ways. So give yourself some credit and relieve yourself of some guilt. I think I understand what she was thinking and while she had a sense there could have been danger there was such a familiarity with him that it doesn't really sink in not totally also having children with the perpetrator and release it extremely difficult and they have a power over you that is really hard to describe even if you have grown to hate your abuser there is many times some kind of feeling of obligation to them. And because she had cheated on him I imagine she had some guilt and unfortunately that guilt worked against her. She found safety in the arms of another man as did I not long after I had left my ex. It's crazy making living with somebody like that so I just pray for the family members and for the man who stepped in and stole her heart obviously it wasn't an ideal situation but it likely was the thing that was going to save her and at least you gave her some good memories and the much needed love she deserved
Too many people run to another man straight after, without healing or considering the duty to their children. Plus she told him her plan, probably in a fulled argument... We don't know the full account of that. I understand the whole emotional attachment, guilt thing in your comment, and it's true there is an invisible power over you like duty and obligation, however, dancing with the devil whilst cavorting with another man during this time is not wise.... Some women just cannot be alone or see the importance of building a safe and secure unit for their children before dating again..... It's a truly dangerous window to begin doing that. Her affair was the straw that broke the camels back, and her children are paying the price, sadly!

My ex fiancé violently attacked me one evening, slamming me to the ground on my face and held me down screaming at me at the top of his lungs, keeping my phone away from me, wouldn't let me get up, leave his sight or leave the house etc. He had NEVER before even raised his voice to me, he was wonderful, I loved him deeply, my family loved him, we all trusted him completely and had known him almost 20 years. I could have let it go, after all I had felt partially responsible for pushing him too far that night and it could have been chocked up to a "one time thing" but I knew deep down I HAD TO LEAVE. That broke my heart but I knew the statistics and now I was truly terrified and traumatized. So, I played it cool with him but told my therapist, friends and family, found an apartment, packed up and left the following week during the day while he was at work. We cannot mess around when it comes to things like this. It's hard to leave the one you love and the life you built but when they lay violent hands on you, it has to be GAME OVER, the *first time* , period! This is the ultimate "deal breaker". Stay safe. Not just the ladies either, men are vulnerable to DV too and it can and does escalate quickly. Life is too precious and too short. 🙏🏼🩵🙏🏼

I think in some cases they say it when they don’t actually want to leave them , they want them to change, they haven’t yet accepted they will never change and that they are in real danger, once they get to the point to really really wanting to leave or realising things have got dangerous, then hopefully they just leave and hopefully it is not too late. Most people ignore many signs and red flags until they hit breaking point. In this case, it’s got to an affair and telling him of it -she should have been long gone before the affair - narcissists don’t want you but they won’t knowingly ‘allow’ you to leave them for someone else

Im from across the river and helped in the search for her. There were SO many people that came together to help. Busses upon busses. Its a very sad situation, but the love shown for her from the community was beautiful. I hope her family felt the love and support from everyone.

BEWARE: There is no law that says police have to wait 24hrs before looking for a missing person. NO LAW! Although, it might be that stations protocol, that doesn't matter. If you are ever in this type of a situation, which I hope never happens, you tell the police you want to speak with the head of missing persons and point out that there is no law prohibiting police to wait any amount of time. You fight for your loved one. No matter who you have to fight. The first few hours are crucial. Be an advocate. Please.
This dude's siblings seem to be totally in denial. Their childhood home must have been so full of normalized violence for them to defend their brother even after he told the mother of his children that she'd end up like Gabby Petito if she wasn't careful. Poor Madi. This is why it's important to have protected sex, too. If she hadn't gotten pregnant, she may not have felt obligated to stay with the man who abused and ultimately murdered her, for the sake of her child. Sometimes accidental pregnancy happens. My sister had an IUD when she got pregnant! And she was also told by doctors that she would never be able to get pregnant, but she used birth control just in case anyway. So when she did get pregnant, she did end up keeping the baby as it was truly a miracle!

In my research, I have seen 1000 of these stories. The victims and family members will continue to ignore the signs (e.g. short index finger ratio, hairy body, poor vision, poor impulse control, etc.) of unstable people. These characteristics apply to both evil men and women.
I've had that talk with my sister too 😢 "I'd never leave my kids, if I go missing it's not by choice", told one coworker too. Scariest time of my life, I am so blessed I was able to make it out!! My heart breaks for her family, daughters and friends! I know the pain I caused my sister and I would never want to cause that on anyone!! If you're in a situation that isn't healthy, just know there's help!!! You and your life deserve so much more than living in fear 💕

When the husband said that she could end up like the other dead girl, she told her friends. Then she SHOULD have told him: "I told my friends you said that, so if that ever happens to me now, there is absolutely no way you won't hang for it...". Insurance policy.
This happened very close to my hometown. The entire surrounding area was so heartbroken and shocked. The efforts searching for her went on for a very long time and everyone was very disheartened to hear that she had been found dead. I hope her children are doing okay as they begin to heal from this❤

I'm almost 40; if my mom doesn't get a call from me each day, she knows something is wrong. We call multiple times a day. The only time I didn't call was when I was in the ER. And she somehow knew, that she even called the hospital I was at. Her intuition is crazy.

The average American nowadays has a phone and can call and check around for where their missing friend or family member is in minutes and determine if the person is really missing.

Good for you! I was 27 when I left my husband of 3 years. We had a 3 year old. Was pressured to marry him because of the pregnancy. He was emotionally abusive but he started becoming physically abusive 2 years into marriage. I plotted my escape, woke up after a nasty fight where I was forced to lock myself in our guest bedroom because he physically stopped me from leaving the home to go to my parents and yanked our toddler from my arms injuring her. I made up my mind that night I would leave him the next morning after he left for work. I didn't tell him or my parents (for fear they would accidentally tell him) where I moved for months. Drove around the city until I found an apartment that would give me a key that day. Left with nothing but what would fit into my car. Filed for divorce and waited the mandatory 6 months required by court. Celebrated my freedom and safety once I realized he "moved" on. It only took him a few months to find a new girlfriend. I do think I saved my life. He continues to be abusive. He is divorced again. Unlike some abusive men he openly proclaims to be a Narcissistic megalomaniac. He wrote an entire online blog about his self destructive personality. However he denies ever abusing me.

Hey thanks for getting us out there there is not much press in Minnesota uploaded at all which was really discouraging so we appreciate you getting her name out there... as one of the many women who have been in her position knowing it could have been me breaks my heart and I want to encourage your family because at least you believed her. Most of my family and friends were behind him in many ways. So give yourself some credit and relieve yourself of some guilt. I think I understand what she was thinking and while she had a sense there could have been danger there was such a familiarity with him that it doesn't really sink in not totally also having children with the perpetrator and release it extremely difficult and they have a power over you that is really hard to describe even if you have grown to hate your abuser there is many times some kind of feeling of obligation to them. And because she had cheated on him I imagine she had some guilt and unfortunately that guilt worked against her. She found safety in the arms of another man as did I not long after I had left my ex. It's crazy making living with somebody like that so I just pray for the family members and for the man who stepped in and stole her heart obviously it wasn't an ideal situation but it likely was the thing that was going to save her and at least you gave her some good memories and the much needed love she deserved

My ex fiancé violently attacked me one evening, slamming me to the ground on my face and held me down screaming at me at the top of his lungs, keeping my phone away from me, wouldn't let me get up, leave his sight or leave the house etc.
He had NEVER before even raised his voice to me, he was wonderful, I loved him deeply, my family loved him, we all trusted him completely and had known him almost 20 years.
I could have let it go, after all I had felt partially responsible for pushing him too far that night and it could have been chocked up to a "one time thing" but I knew deep down I HAD TO LEAVE. That broke my heart but I knew the statistics and now I was truly terrified and traumatized.
So, I played it cool with him but told my therapist, friends and family, found an apartment, packed up and left the following week during the day while he was at work.
We cannot mess around when it comes to things like this. It's hard to leave the one you love and the life you built but when they lay violent hands on you, it has to be GAME OVER, the *first time* , period! This is the ultimate "deal breaker".
Stay safe. Not just the ladies either, men are vulnerable to DV too and it can and does escalate quickly. Life is too precious and too short. 🙏🏼🩵🙏🏼

BEWARE: There is no law that says police have to wait 24hrs before looking for a missing person. NO LAW! Although, it might be that stations protocol, that doesn't matter.
If you are ever in this type of a situation, which I hope never happens, you tell the police you want to speak with the head of missing persons and point out that there is no law prohibiting police to wait any amount of time. You fight for your loved one. No matter who you have to fight. The first few hours are crucial. Be an advocate. Please.
But there is one unwritten law, if the police dont want to do their job properly, you can't force them to. They will have a 1000 excuses to not do it.
This dude's siblings seem to be totally in denial. Their childhood home must have been so full of normalized violence for them to defend their brother even after he told the mother of his children that she'd end up like Gabby Petito if she wasn't careful. Poor Madi. This is why it's important to have protected sex, too. If she hadn't gotten pregnant, she may not have felt obligated to stay with the man who abused and ultimately murdered her, for the sake of her child. She could've left Adam for Spencer and been in a much healthier, happier relationship. Now those kids are motherless and practically fatherless too, if he ends up serving time for his violence as he should. What a completely avoidable tragedy caused by an emotionally immature man-child. May she rest in peace and may her family find strength and closure.

Yes I agree with you they said a lot of weird stuff and you can tell they grew up in a family where they don't see women as equals and I don't think they really liked his girlfriend very much .
Sometimes accidental pregnancy happens. My sister had an IUD when she got pregnant! And she was also told by doctors that she would never be able to get pregnant, but she used birth control just in case anyway. So when she did get pregnant, she did end up keeping the baby as it was truly a miracle!
I am so glad he was found guilty. However I will never understand when someone says they are afraid of someone and then has an affair. That can set anyone off on a crazy path. Not justified but definitely happens.
Never ever tell your abusive narcissistic spouse that you're leaving them or that you're seeing someone else, just make your plans silently while planning your exit and don't even share your address or contact.

Yes they are well presented but the times I investigated and did more research and looked at other shows and documentaries then I realized sometimes they would leave out some information that I felt was really important and I would wonder why they didn't mention that in the show

In my research, I have seen 1000 of these stories. The victims and family members will continue to ignore the signs (e.g. short index finger ratio, hairy body, poor vision, poor impulse control, etc.) of unstable people. These characteristics apply to both evil men and women.

I've had that talk with my sister too 😢 "I'd never leave my kids, if I go missing it's not by choice", told one coworker too. Scariest time of my life, I am so blessed I was able to make it out!!

Im from minnesota, the twin cities area, i shared her face so many times and prayed for her so much. I was devastated when this story ended how it did. Her poor sweet babies , her poor family❤
As a long time friend and school mate of Spencer's, I can say with 150% confidence that Spence is innocent and Adam's family owes him an apology for trying to scapegoat him.
He seems like a good guy who truly loved Maddi. I am sorry that his family is trying to place blame on him, even after the police cleared him!

I used to work in a shelter for battered women and children. The red flags were blaring. People need to be better educated. Sadly Maddie made a fatal error by staying with her killer. A mandatory course in highschool might save lives. I'm so sorry for the family and her children. RIP Maddie.

Watching her friend cry from the news of her friend being found dead was just heartbreaking.

When the husband said that she could end up like the other dead girl, she told her friends. Then she SHOULD have told him: "I told my friends you said that, so if that ever happens to me now, there is absolutely no way you won't hang for it...". Insurance policy.
This happened very close to my hometown. The entire surrounding area was so heartbroken and shocked. The efforts searching for her went on for a very long time and everyone was very disheartened to hear that she had been found dead. I hope her children are doing okay as they begin to heal from this❤

I'm almost 40; if my mom doesn't get a call from me each day, she knows something is wrong. We call multiple times a day. The only time I didn't call was when I was in the ER. And she somehow knew, that she even called the hospital I was at. Her intuition is crazy.

@@nbaoldgirlWe live in different countries, so I usually call her daily to ask what adventures her and my dad are participating in. They're active hikers and are always on the go. Or I call to ask how to evict spiders. So yeah, I truly believe mothers have an intuition. Just like Maddi's mom.
