Gale the Whirlwind was so good back at the start of the Synchro era I questioned why it was even printed; it seemed absurd to have an easily searchable Shrink on wings that was a Tuner which could be Special Summoned on top of all that. Then Gateway of the Six was released and I assumed all semblance of balance was just dead. xD
I feel like the only reason Gateway isn't banned to this day is because they printed shit like OP hand traps and going second cards that are supposed to keep combo decks in check. They keep power creeping the power creep lol

You just have to place 4 or more Bushido counters with every summon and you'll end up getting a net profit from constantly returning Battle Shogun to your Extra Deck and summoning it again, using another copy of itself as material if needed; which also means Battle Shogun can reach a literally infinite ATK value as it gains ATK for each Bushido counter on your field. And since they have easy to special summon Level 3 and 4 monsters you can easily go into Rhongomyniad with 8 materials, in the OCG where Rhongomyniad is still unlimited. (And with Shien's Smoke Signal searching said Level 3 monsters from the deck even without Gateway of the Six, setting Gossip Shadow to transfer materials is absurdly easy) Combine that with Great Shogun Shien and Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En, and you'll have a pretty absurd turn 1 board where your opponent can't summon, can only activate 1 Spell/Trap card, and that Spell/Trap card will be negated anyway. And that's only 3 monsters; leaving you with 3 other possible monsters (excluding extra linking) and any Spell/Trap cards you want for support; Contract with Don Thousand for example can stop your opponent from even setting monsters and Magical Mid-Breaker Field can stop your opponent from targeting Shien with Effect Veiler. And since Six Samurai United is a thing you can quite handily draw up to 6 cards (or more if you can also loop Six Samurai United) after having already searched every Six Samurai monster from your deck with Gateway of the Six, making such absurd starting fields not even all that improbable. You can also do a turn 1 extra link, but I don't consider that as unwinnable a game state. Or you could cut out the middle-man so to speak and just go for an FTK with Toon Cannon Soldier or any tribute-for-damage effect. With how many Six Samurai monsters can Special Summon themselves, Gateway of the Six is, like, one of the easiest (if not the easiest) "infinitely summon monsters" card in the entire game. xD

If you negate the spell card using LSS those doesn't actually count as activated by Shogun's effect, so you can still activate another spell card. Basically Great Shogun's effect count when the card is properly activated, i.e not negated by LSS, Solemn etc.

Did you know that Kalut is the only Blackwing card to have an effect that is not listed in its card text. It can make Nhymnim lose to the same deck 10 episodes in a row.
Rather, anime goes for big number effects and don't show off competitive level gameplay. Those who played knew how structured Blackwings were compared to every other anime deck.

I see Blackwings and I almost twinge with jealousy at how they keep getting good support... I love Raidraptors and had high hopes of them effectively becoming "XYZ Blackwings", now they're just another archetype only known for a single broken Boss Monster that anyone can cheat out.
The inability to search RUM makes them really sad for the longest time until they released Wise Strix, well even then that bird was used in conjunction to PK link monster to create 5 negates board instead, almost not involving RR Boss monster.
If it makes you feel any better 90% or more of blackwing support is terrible. I would rather konami give quality support once every 3-4 years then in quantity.
Fun Fact: Everyone should probably know this, but since Full Armor Master only requires a Blackwing Tuner, and any non-Tuner monster, you can use Bi'an, Earth of the Yang Zing as a material for the summon. And as a result, Full Armor Master becomes indestructable by Battle as well. Bi'an's effect is a lingering effect, so it bypasses the protection of Full Armor Master. The only weakness of this combo are Kaiju cards.
Probably Blackwing is one of the largest synchro- focused archetype in the game(if not THE largest). The largest archetype in Yugioh is HEROS, just for extra info
I agree. And IMO Blackwing is the best way to learn about Synchro Summoning (outside GY synchro effect). No confusing effect and larger type of material (both generic & archetype material). The only thing Blackwing need is its own Link Monster to help them more stronger, just like Vendread or Endymion

It’s ironic that Crow has one of the best archetypes decks but his boss monster and signer dragon, Black Winged Dragon, is the worst of his team. Even more ironic is despite its name, the card is incompatible with the archetype. XD
In the anime Black Winged Dragon was made and done to screw over Leo and his Signer Dragon Life Stream/Power Tool Dragon. Cause A. They didn't want Power Tool to be a Signer B. Black Winged Dragon wasnt even Crow's card was more of an excuse to justify him being a signer C. The writing team hated Leo and gave the Signer Spot to Crow and contradicting the anime in the end. D. Blackwings got popular so they desperately tried to hype up Crow as much as possible even though no one gave a shit about Crow starting ths Yliaster Arc as he just became a worse Yusei Clone.

I kinda understand why many sleep on Onimaru, but it is really easy to summon with cards you use every time, you just need a Kalut and something like Raikiri in the grave, a Blizzard in your hand, and Sohaya in your extra deck. The combo goes like this: summon Blizzard and special summon Kalut, Synchro into Sohaya, Sohaya summons Raikiri and is considered a Tuner, then Synchro into Onimaru and you have a huge 6000 atk monster
Should've honorable mentioned OG armor master because he was unkillable unless you used your 1 dark hole or had bottomless or solemns set before it hit the field.
I would love to see a "Top 10 Best Pendulum Monsters" list. I think the number 1 spot (if not number 1, would come pretty close) is Majespecter Unicorn - Kirin. Can't be targeted or destroyed, can be bounced and summoned every turn and is splashable in every pendulum deck, overall a very annoying boss monster to deal with.
It's weird that Black Whirlwind wasn't used AT ALL by Crow in the Anime despite it being one of the earliest Blackwing cards released. Yeah, not in 5Ds and not in ARC - V.
Nostalgic. I remember in synchro era I would start with sirocco of the dawn, gale, bora. Slap out sirocco, special summon all your gale and bora, sirocco onto bora, win. (oh you just mentioned it)
It's funny because recently, DLM hosted a No Banlist Tournament in Duel Links (where you can play 3 Grass, the full power Lightsworn engine, Cyberstein, all FTKs decks) and the deck that won the entire tournament was Blackwings. If you remove every restrictions in the game, Blackwings rise again to Top Tier even with full power Darklords, Shiranui and Witchcrafters around which are the best 3 decks ever released in the game within no banlist rules. The most surprising is that Blue Eyes was also really well performing while their only card "banned" is Melody. One copy of Melody is enough to make the deck good to broken, it's insane

Some fun facts: using steam the cloak is probably the best way to summon majestic star dragon in duel links rn, and zephyros is abused a ton in duel links cause of skills that play a field spell for no cost
I love it when I go to a locals and people look at me running synchro blackwing think that it would be a simple game and then I bring out four synchros and top the locals because people have no idea how to get over Full Armor Master sometimes.
So are Raidraptors next? They're basically the Xyz equivalent of Blackwings, so I kinda think that they could make for a good list. Would any of their Rank-Up-Magic cards make it on the list actually? Because I think that only Revolution Force would be that useful for being able to steal an enemy monster…
I still have the World Championship DS games. I beat my head into the wall every time I have to duel Crow for one reason. Its name rhymes with "flute."
It gets the meaning across, it essentially means that "the archetype keeps getting support but with no fixed schedule". "Randomly" and "consistently" do not conflate in the sentence because they refer to different things. Plus sometimes things don't need to have literal meaning to help people understand what you mean. For example, I think that "by definition" means nothing, (at least) in most contexts, it's for emphasis. "Ripe bananas are yellow, by definition" means the same as "ripe bananas are yellow".

I played Blackwings back in 2012 and 2013. All the yugioh kids would go to the library to duel during lunch and I was the king of the tables because I pulled a holo gold brionac and solemn judgement and had blackwing armor master. Forgot the deck on the bus.

Funny story, but I am absolutely terrified of black-winged assault dragon due to my cousin. When assault dragon is summoned, it is a ticking time bomb on my LP because I use salamangreat and use a lot of monster effects. I’ve died way too many times by my own hubris.

Definitely not a video I expected, but I thoroughly appreciate it considering I almost exclusively play blackwings in Duel Links
I kinda understand why many sleep on Onimaru, but it is really easy to summon with cards you use every time, you just need a Kalut and something like Raikiri in the grave, a Blizzard in your hand, and Sohaya in your extra deck. The combo goes like this: summon Blizzard and special summon Kalut, Synchro into Sohaya, Sohaya summons Raikiri and is considered a Tuner, then Synchro into Onimaru and you have a huge 6000 atk monster
Some say they can hear a faint "YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" over the horizon when Kalut was mentioned
Should've honorable mentioned OG armor master because he was unkillable unless you used your 1 dark hole or had bottomless or solemns set before it hit the field.

I would love to see a "Top 10 Best Pendulum Monsters" list.
I think the number 1 spot (if not number 1, would come pretty close) is Majespecter Unicorn - Kirin. Can't be targeted or destroyed, can be bounced and summoned every turn and is splashable in every pendulum deck, overall a very annoying boss monster to deal with.
It's weird that Black Whirlwind wasn't used AT ALL by Crow in the Anime despite it being one of the earliest Blackwing cards released. Yeah, not in 5Ds and not in ARC - V.

Nostalgic. I remember in synchro era I would start with sirocco of the dawn, gale, bora. Slap out sirocco, special summon all your gale and bora, sirocco onto bora, win. (oh you just mentioned it)
Since it's such a common theme for good monsters to be high atk low def, how about a Top 10 monsters with higher defense than attack?
It's funny because recently, DLM hosted a No Banlist Tournament in Duel Links (where you can play 3 Grass, the full power Lightsworn engine, Cyberstein, all FTKs decks) and the deck that won the entire tournament was Blackwings. If you remove every restrictions in the game, Blackwings rise again to Top Tier even with full power Darklords, Shiranui and Witchcrafters around which are the best 3 decks ever released in the game within no banlist rules.
The most surprising is that Blue Eyes was also really well performing while their only card "banned" is Melody. One copy of Melody is enough to make the deck good to broken, it's insane

Sorroco the dawn was a staple for me. On top of being a 2k beat stick, I was always able to beat over anything with it. Especially with Gale the Whirlwind.
Some fun facts: using steam the cloak is probably the best way to summon majestic star dragon in duel links rn, and zephyros is abused a ton in duel links cause of skills that play a field spell for no cost

I love it when I go to a locals and people look at me running synchro blackwing think that it would be a simple game and then I bring out four synchros and top the locals because people have no idea how to get over Full Armor Master sometimes.
So are Raidraptors next? They're basically the Xyz equivalent of Blackwings, so I kinda think that they could make for a good list. Would any of their Rank-Up-Magic cards make it on the list actually? Because I think that only Revolution Force would be that useful for being able to steal an enemy monster…

This is an oxymoron.
It gets the meaning across, it essentially means that "the archetype keeps getting support but with no fixed schedule". "Randomly" and "consistently" do not conflate in the sentence because they refer to different things.
Plus sometimes things don't need to have literal meaning to help people understand what you mean. For example, I think that "by definition" means nothing, (at least) in most contexts, it's for emphasis. "Ripe bananas are yellow, by definition" means the same as "ripe bananas are yellow".
I’ve always found it interesting that Blackwings became so popular. Was kind of expecting Kalut to be here, but I see why he isn’t.

Funny story, but I am absolutely terrified of black-winged assault dragon due to my cousin. When assault dragon is summoned, it is a ticking time bomb on my LP because I use salamangreat and use a lot of monster effects. I’ve died way too many times by my own hubris.
