Excellent use of 3D Printing in a Practical Way to solve a problem. Thanks for sharing this Ron!

Gotta love the practical useful prints! utilitarian is what 3D printers are for...not just for printing more 3D parts (even though that ranks high on the list :) )
    Camera is awesome!!!

Great to hear camera is ok (minus the white balance shifts)! and I must admit i print LOTS of printer part lol Just like in the wood shop; I build way more jigs than real things. I'm strange that way.

Nice video, great boost in quality. Waiting for that sexy bit roll footage using that 4 camera up close on prints. Yea I noticed some colour shift towards the end wasn't drastic but very noticeable

I agree with Parts Dave the camera is definitely crisper but I also agree with Michael S about the colour temperature changes🤔

Its a process :) the color should be good moving forward.. Auto for anything seems to be bad :)

Hey Ron! The new camera is definitely better, not as washed out, much warmer, and more crisp. The video did have some color shifting in and out but overall much improved! In regards to the artifact that you saw my initial thought is a setting in Slic3r called "Extra perimeters if needed:" It's under Print Settings tab in the Quality section. If you hover over that setting it reads "Adds more perimeters when needed for avoiding gaps in sloping walls ... until more than 70% of the loop above is supported" If you look at where the artifact begins on your prints the angle of the walls is getting much closer to horizontal than lower in the print. I've played around with this setting, especially on prints that have round walls, domes, etc and it can make a difference. I haven't seen that exact artifact but I suspect you are correct in thinking Slic3r is slicing it different. I think that setting is normally defaulted to unchecked if you download from the Prusa website, but you might check it and see if enabling that setting helps?

Hey Tim.. that could very possible be what happened.. it does look like extra layers; and the wall is thin.

In the last couple of minutes of the video, color temperature shifted dramatically several times.

I saw that also.. it was set to Auto white balance and went crazy a few times. I'll be going to manual in future to avoid that :)

I've just got a MK3 and every time I slice an STL with the prusa slicer I get problems. All the models that come installed print perfect. Is there an alternative slicer you would recommend?

There are lots of slicers.. first off be certain you have the latest slic3r PE installed. Use the one from their Drivers and it works well usually. Otherwise many have had great luck with Cura.. and its free. It does a ton, but I just don't use it much. I use Simplify 3d, but is is expensive and honestly I'm not sure its worth it these days. So many free slicers have gotten SO good. There is also IdeaMaker, KiSSlicer are a few others.

Which slicer did you use on the first CR 10 print, your "benchmark"?

    • @RonsPlace

My primary slicer is Simplify 3d.. on all but my mk3. I rarely use anything other than Slic3r PE for the mk3; but for some reason it didn't like this file.

Other than the thumbnail we don't get to see them installed. That would be a good element to add towards the end of the video. Thanks for the video! Jim

Appreciate the feedback.. you are completely correct :) I entirely forgot the end picture until it was done and uploaded lol I was lazy and didn't want to do it again. I will remember though!!

Great solution...we see an issue and solve it with a 3D print. Hope that the PLA will hold its shape as it is close to the window...had some parts laying on the table and when it was sunny it deformed...S3D have/had the issue that gcode was different after rebooting checkout jatman video...Slic3rPE usually generates exactly the same gcode...but I saw that there are differences between 1.36.x, 1.39.x and 1.40.x (github version) where some models worked where others didn't...the 1.40.x could slice most models properly while 1.39.x had few issues. There is a reported issue on github about strange extrusions on MK3 and MK2.5...Camera is great just in the last minutes it adjusted color/white balance but this could be caused a cloud moved and changed the light or so.

Camera looks crisper. Don't you call artifacts "character marks"? :-)

Although the software may be "slick," its name is not. It is called Slicer (in most languages). If I heard it right, Alessandro (who created the SW) pronounced it Zlicer in his interview with Josef Pruša.

    • @RonsPlace
      @RonsPlace  6 лет назад

You are likely correct in calling it Slicer.. unfortunately many get confused with Slic3r and a slicer program. So thats why its routinely called Slic3r to be more clear. Kind of like asking for an "allen wrench" when in reality Allen is a brand vs calling it a Hex key :) Great input though.. thanks!

Rons Place , you are welcome to contact Alessandro Ranellucci or his friend Josef Pruša for further explanation.

I think you should kick the open and close. It’s too forced. Just say “hey peeps, let’s print some shit”. And then close with “print all the shit you can” that’s catchy.

Ron is your opening trying to be funny? I love your videos, but when you say “stick around and let’s see what we found out.......... I’m Ron and this is my place”. I giggle a little every time.
