    5:37 Muting a region does not unload cpu resources (unlike other DAWs) you have to turn off the track to do that, and you can hit "option+T" to configure the track header

      What about the freeze-frunction?

    • @VenetinOfficial

      @@sesamreinhart
      Freeze does what it says on the tin, but it only applies to MIDI tracks. Freezing MIDI tracks work as a temporary Bounce in Place that stops all MIDI events in said track and instead plays it as audio. Saves CPU pretty nicely, too. Oh, but the big gripe is you have to let Freeze run ALL the way through your project's total length, so don't freeze if you don't want to wait.

    • @papaya388
      @papaya388 5 лет назад

      In his example, would turning off the plugin (the auto tune in this case) accomplish the same thing?

    • @tonyserzo
      @tonyserzo 4 года назад +3

      @@papaya388 That's the way to save CPU actually click on the little power button in the plug-in. Then you can hide the track. I do with MIDI plugs all the time, I have some resource intensive synths so once I have something I like I bounce it to audio, power off the synth and any fx plugs on the channel and then hide the track. That way if I later decide I want to change some notes I can bring the whole sound back and record another MIDI part, but if not it's not costing me CPU cycles. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for this! Could I ask a couple questions?
    1. When you're saving your session to an external hard drive, are you running the session from the external hard drive itself as well or just saving your sessions there?
    2. If you're running it from the external hard drive, do you have any recommendations on which hard drives would be best for this? I'm on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012).

    Nice one man, Straight forward and to the point.
    I'm saving up for a new iMac ATM, It's going to take me a while, I've thought about buying a new mac from the states, then shipping it to the UK. Here in the UK the tax we pay on goods is crazy, plus apple seems to charge higher prices.
    secondly, I've thought about buying a Hackintosh, but when you put in a 5k new screen, you don't save much.
    thirdly I've thought about upgrading my ram and HD.
    Lastly maybe buying a recent second-hand iMac, & upgrading the parts.
    But, Your tips are helpful, esp buying a second external HD,, I'm using one as a time machine, so the second one for logic sounds good.
    My iMac as 8gb of ram, because it's a 21" late 2013 the ram etc is soldered on, I don't fancy messing around with it. I originally bought it for Graphic design and a different DAW, but love Logic.
    But bouncing in place, using buses esp for powerful CPU hungry plugins and freezing tracks help, Thanks for your advice man. I put useful vids, like this in youtube folders to look back on them. Subbed & liked. Peace

    Set the sample latency high when listening and tweaking ITB. Lower it ONLY if you are auditioning your sound through the DAW. Most interfaces will do "direct monitoring" that means you're NOT going through the DAW, so you can keep the sample latency high and let the DAW do it's thing. This is where UAD gear shines.

    What about using freeze instead of bounce in place?

    • @tsihme
      @tsihme 7 лет назад +2

      "Freeze" is bounce in place, in so many words. When you freeze a track, it renders the audio and saves it as a temp file in the project package. I forget how, but there's a way to purge these freeze files to save disk space. The difference is that BIP allows you to move the region, and creates a new track that gives you more flexibility. Also you can use selection based processing on a BIP, whereas a freeze is your way of telling logic: I'm done making changes to this track, freeze it so it uses less CPU and more HDD.

    • @tyalexandercheng
      @tyalexandercheng 6 лет назад

      Hey bro, I'm not a fan of the freeze function. Of course, this is just preference. When you apply the bounce in place function you have the freedom to adjust the length of the audio file, and or add fades, and you can even continue to place new insert effects on the channel strip.
      If you use the Freeze function, you have to totally commit to the frozen track, not allowing you to edit it within the DAW, or add any inserts.
      So, in my humble opinion, I tend to use the bounce in place function. It's more felexible and it's more optimal.
