My favorite part is that they gave their pilot Winston his wish. One last mission for him to go out in a blaze of glory and be buried in the sands just like his comrades. Most tend to miss that Wilson went out with a smile on his face dying the death he wanted.
That Mummy had the misfortune of taking the eyes from the only guy who was like a -7 prescription 😂 No wonder he needed Beni’s help, he couldn’t see where he was bloody going.
Brendan Fraser has 2 underrated movies you definitely need to check out. Bedazzled with Elizabeth Hurley and Blast From The Past with Alicia Silverstone.
My favorite line of the movie "Compared to you, the other plagues were a joy" I laugh every time. P.S. Also, it would depend on the road if a camel can beat a horse. If it's a paved road, a horse would win. Open desert like that, a camel would.
Yes Ardeth is hot. Brendan Fraser isn't usually my type (too pretty) but there's something about his smile that I just find so endearing ever since the first time I saw him in George Of The Jungle.
A minor plot device in the film Stargate is a candy bar called 5th Avenue. I tried it as a kid because I loved the movie and found out I also love the candy bar!
Pleaaase please watch the second part: The Mummy Returns, and if you want more of Brendan Fraser I kindly recommend you to watch George of the Jungle ❤❤❤
Yes, the Magi was very handsome, I agree!!! I always assumed that the treasure they had at the end was Beni's bag that he was trying to drag out to the camels.
I'm a straight dude, but even I'd think about it a bit if Oded Fehr hit on me. Lots of people remember Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser from this movie, but Oded Fehr has to be up there on any list too IMO.
Also The Constant Gardener, and I was just reminded of her role in Runaway Jury, which is an interesting and well-acted legal thriller (starring John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman) that Mary could enjoy because of its topic and genre :)
In terms of why people watch movies, this should be considered one of the greatest of all time. It's a fantasy film. It's an action flick. It's a comedy. It's an adventure movie. It's a horror film. It's got romance. It's got monsters. It's a period piece. It's about ancient fricken Egypt. It's supernatural. It's got amazing lead characters. It's got fantastic secondary characters. It's got a great soundtrack.
Brendan Fraser is a national treasure and must be protected. One of the most wholesome men on the planet, who went through some very awful stuff that caused him to stop his acting career for many years. Very glad he's back, we love him. Also, a 'broad' is a term from the 1950's in America that is slang for a promiscuous woman, someone who's got a 'broad' clientele, if you catch my meaning. Camels are quite fast and were used in the Middle East for cavalry (called "camelry") due to their ability to withstand the climate better than horses, and because horses don't like camels so enemy cavalry would have a harder time controlling their mounts. And your pronunciation of Cleopatra is adorable lol
Wrong. Broad is a slang term that refers to women in general. It's based on the fact that women's hips are much wider (broad) than those of men. It has nothing to do with promiscuity.
"So, there's this Imothep guy. He killed the Pharao. We should put him to death.... OR - hear me out on this - we put a curse on him that turns him into an immortal being with incredible supernatural powers, that can be awakened by reading from this golden book we're not going to destroy, we'll look him into this sarcophagus that can be opened with this key we're not going to destroy, and we'll draw a map to his resting place and guard his grave by standing on a cliff. I mean, what could go wrong?"
Camels are pretty fast. And the structure of their face help them travel through sand. Even saw some camel races on TV when I was in that part of the world.
The amount of reactors that classify this as a scary movie confuses me. It's an action/adventure. Yes, there are "horrific" things in it, but it's not meant to frighten. Like, you wouldn't classify Men In Black as a scary movie cause the Edgar Bug sticks dead bodies to the ceiling, or snaps people in half. It's the same thing.
The "body horror" is what tips most people over the edge. Having live bugs crawling inside one's body tends to provoke a very visceral, instinctive revulsion.
If you are looking for an Amazing Mythology based movie in Egypt... 'The Prince of Egypt' it's an animated one; BUT it's not just a kids movie it feels more directed like a Shakespearian drama of the myth of Moses. take it from me- I'm not a member of any religious group involved in the story- It is a masterpiece of animated artwork and it's absolutely worth seeing.
there was some trivia about this movie and all the camels didn't like Beni's actor Kevin J. O'Connor for some reason they spit at him and tried to bite him throughout the whole movie per cast and crew members
One of the last swashbuckling adventure movies and a great one. I couldn't get enough of this movie when it came out. Brendan Fraser was great as O'Connell, Rachel Wies was beautiful, and Arnold Vaslo was a great villain. They just don't make adventure movies like this any more.
Good films in / about Egypt: Stargate (1994), Prince of Egypt (1998), The Ten Commadments (1956) and Cleopatra (1963). I do hope you watch sequel Mary. Its quite wholesome.
13:13 of course the Camels would win this on sand. Their feet are made for this and they are pretty fast. Horse feet are not made for sand but they would win on any other ground propably. Love your reactions btw. 😊
I freaking LOVE this movie. Used to watch it all the time it aired on the tv back in the day and it is still one of my favorites. It made me love Egyptian "lore" and also, made me have a gigantic crush on Rachel and Brendan ahha
Man Jerry Goldsmith hit it OUT OF THE PARK (again) with this soundtrack! Seriously you could tell he was having fun and bringing back the themes and tones/brass/stings and so on of the classic movies of the period and setting.
I loved The Whale. It's probably too dull for general audiences so I don't know if the views will do good on YT, but the performances are really moving.
Another fantastic reaction. Here's some suggestions: Cleopatra (1963); Stargate (1994); Indiana Jones: Raiders Of The Lost Arc (1981). Never, never, never see Gods Of Egypt (2016).
Brandon Fraser movies I would recommend is Encino Man, George of the Jungle, Dudley Do-Right, Airheads, and Inkheart. I know he's done lots more but these are my favorites.
Brendan Fraiser is one of the most down to earth people in the industry. As you said in the open he won a bunch of awards last year but more than anything people in the industry and fans wanted him to succeed and be happy again. He’s had some tough luck and moments in his career while always staying positive and respected. It’s great to see him getting his moment in the Sun again.
Brendan Fraser has MANY underrated movies, some listed below, and also Airheads and Looney Tunes: Back In Action (which also has Steve Martin hamming it up as the bad guy)
What you likely fail to appreciate is the effects of this film, which were groundbreaking at the time, but have since been imitated so often they're common tropes of CG infested films today. It wasn't even nominated for visual effects at the Oscars (and The Phantom Menace was 🤮). I must admit being more fond of The Mummy Returns than I am of The Mummy. Hope you add it to a poll someday (a poll of sequels, to be fair).
Phantom Menace was well deserving of an Oscar nomination. The visual effect work on that movie is astounding, the fact that it had two fully realized cgi characters alone make it deserving. Of all the criticism of Episode 1 back then, especially of Jar Jar, nobody ever mentioned the CGI, because it was incredibly good. The work on Episode 1 was far better than The Mummy, and a far more impressive feat than The Matrix (which has a truly awful compositing shot in it of Trinity jumping through a window at the start). If Episode 1 was well received, it would have won the Oscar for visual effects easy. The Mummy returns is a massive step down from The Mummy, with some of the worst CGI of all time. It has quite possibly the worst CGI shot in film history (of a big budget movie anyway), even the filmmakers regret that shot.
So to answer your question, I coincidentally watched The Whale earlier this week. It has fantastic acting, not just by Brenden Frazier, although he was the best. Hated the movie, though. So depressing with a bummer ending that was clearly telegraphed from the very beginning. It's one of those movies that sets out to make a point about an issue and then builds the movie around it rather than setting out to tell a great story and maybe include a message. I'm sure it is critically acclaimed for the issues raised and the good acting, but it's just not enjoyable.
This movie is a perfect gateway to talk about Pauly Shore movies, specifically starting with Encino Man, since it also stars Brendan Fraser. But if you want 90s comedy in a nutshell, Pauly Shore's comedies are an excellent window into that time.
Stephen Sommers also made Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman. It's not as good but definitely has the same vibe, just with vampires instead of mummies. Dumb but fun.
I love the way you say "clay-O-pAtra". I think a lot of the Egypt stuff is at the British Museum in London. You know, given that Egypt used to belong to us.
I find this to be on the Perfect Movies list along with The Princess Bride. It has a lightness to it, the cast chemistry is out of this world, the dialogue is snappy and funny, and despite being a movie about a Mummy there are no genuinely mean spirited characters. The Mummy Returns is MUST watch as it carries everything forward perfectly. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is skippable. The Spin off...well that one starts an interesting star journey.
9:34 - "What is 'broad'?" - It's an old, somewhat derogatory slang word for a woman. 9:36 - "That seems awful." - Originally, that's how most hangings were carried out. Hanging had been in use as an execution method for a long time before anyone figured out that if you dropped the person a sizable distance with a rope around their neck, it would snap their neck and kill them. It was many years after that, that they figured out how to precisely calculate the distance of the drop to break the person's neck without either strangling them, or decapitating them. 10:00 - "So many words I've never heard before." - "Flimflam" = scam. 18:07 - "Oh yeah, that was one of the plagues, right? The crickets?" - Locusts. The sequel, The Mummy Returns is also worth watching. It's pretty much more of the same. After that, the sequels get worse.
There are very few movies having to do with anything Egyptian. There is the sci-fi movie Stargate starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, but it's sci-fi Egyptian nonsense. Still a fun, action movie. There's also the animated movie The Prince of Egypt, made by Dreamworks Animation who made hits like Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon. And of course, Cleopatra.
The Mummy Returns is fun as well. I didn't see the others. There is a bit of Egyptian stuff in Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). It features the first photoreal computer generated character in film history.
If you travel to Cairo Egypt to visit the pyramids, you can ride a camel for about 10-20 minutes out into the desert around the pyramids and back with a guide.
How in the world have you overlooked two of the highest rated and most watched Netflix short series? WEDNESDAY and THE QUEEEN'S GAMBIT. Both are outstanding! Add them to the list.
"No way that the camels would ever win this, right?" Actually, not the case. While horses are faster than camels in general, camels will run faster than horses across sand.
16:16. Librarian here (in case the user name is anything ambiguous). One thing I deeply dislike in this film is saying that the lady is a librarian. This is a service profession; it's meant to help people to find information they need, enjoyment they like, inspiration to overcome adversity. We are there for the users, not for our own advancement. This lady is as much a librarian as Indiana Jones is an archeologist (treasure hunter or grave robber would be more accurate in his case). Geez. I wonder whether the writers ever talked to a librarian in their lives...
I think you should definitely watch Stranger Things, The Sopranos, and Indiana Jones 2 & 3: The Temple Of Doom and The Last Crusade, I think you’ll love them (those 2 shows and 2 of the Indiana Jones sequels)(Temple Of Doom is technically a prequel to Raiders Of The Lost Ark)
The Whale is a decent movie, it's about a very large guy, what would medically be referred to as "morbidly obese". It could be considered as kind of award bait as it's what is commonly referred to as a "character piece", something actors like to get their teeth into, although but you might enjoy it, the acting is excellent, Fraser did a great job. I love how most of the subtitles coming up were actually the same as the hardcoded ones.
A Halloween movie should be anything related to the supernatural the end. As a kid I enjoyed Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein when they'd play that around this time in the 60's. A comedy which featured the classic 'monsters'. As far as Evie, we know the only thing that frightens her are Rick O'Connell's manners. The sequel is excellent and if you enjoyed this director's style, then the follow up to these - Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman - is worth a watch.
You might enjoy a film ... was it from the late '50s or '60s, called "The Egyptian", starring Tony Curtis. That one actually took place in the ancient days.
Another great reaction including your coping mechanism to deal with the terror of The Mummy. I also use humor as a coping mechanism but while mine is really bad yours is adorable.😂❤ Here's a Thank you.
I'm always fascinated at the way someone who speaks multiple languages like Mary sometimes pronounces names or regionally specific words differently than a native english speaker! Putting the emphasis on the second syllable in Cleopatra (cle-O-pat-ra) instead of the way I've always heard it, (cle-o-PET-ra) 😁 (please don't be offended, I don't mean it as a criticism, I hardly speak one language myself, it's genuinely interesting to me!)
If you want a Scary movie that's not scary now. The Night of the Demon A great old B&W with special effect that were great at the time but won't keep you awake at night noe😂
The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evy described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): They used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
My favorite part is that they gave their pilot Winston his wish. One last mission for him to go out in a blaze of glory and be buried in the sands just like his comrades.
Most tend to miss that Wilson went out with a smile on his face dying the death he wanted.
Everybody is always so sad, which I get, but it's actually such a triumphant moment. So much better than him withering away of old age.
@Logan_Baron Descdribed earlier in the film about what he wanted instead of sitting around rotting of booze and boredom
and the movie gave a few seconds of time to give a proper farewell AND he even has his own theme - its on the soundtrack ;)
Winston had survivor's guilt but wanted to handle it by dying heroically.
"HERE I COME! LADDIES!"
o7
That Mummy had the misfortune of taking the eyes from the only guy who was like a -7 prescription 😂 No wonder he needed Beni’s help, he couldn’t see where he was bloody going.
Ha! I never thought of that. Funny. I like the character of Beni. He reminds me a lot of the old horror actor, Peter Lorre.
I cannot count the number of times I’ve seen this and I never thought of that! 😂
Yeah and no wonder it took him so long to kill Beni. He was trying to make sure he wasn’t looking at Anck su namun
Brendan Fraser has 2 underrated movies you definitely need to check out. Bedazzled with Elizabeth Hurley and Blast From The Past with Alicia Silverstone.
100% agreed on both counts

George of the Jungle is hilarious. If you want serious (besides The Whale), check out Gods and Monsters, also starring Ian McKellen.
Blast From the Past is both deconstructive & hilarious.
2 phenomenal suggestions!!!
Stargate (1994) is Egypt themed. Not mythology but a sci-fi. Still a solid movie.
And it shares one actor with this movie. Could you spot which one?
Had to do a double take on the year, believe it's actually 1994.
Stargate is an absolute treat for anyone into Egyptology, and it's one of the best adventure movies made for sure. Also the show is lit.
A minor plot device in the film Stargate is a candy bar called 5th Avenue. I tried it as a kid because I loved the movie and found out I also love the candy bar!
@@martiantexan7632 It is actually. My mistake
@@vanyadolly Love the show, above any other. Shame that there are very few reactions to it. Don't think Mary would be interested though.
"Harsh treatment for touching a lady"
"It must be bad to be condemned, for touching a lady"
He murdered the Pharoah, the affair hardly mattered
Yeah he got rolled for adultery, but also regicide, grave robbing, and necromancy lol. Probably bigger deals all told.
Pleaaase please watch the second part: The Mummy Returns, and if you want more of Brendan Fraser I kindly recommend you to watch George of the Jungle ❤❤❤
I liked the original cartoon series better.
This movie, aside from being quite entertaining, has always had a place in my heart because Rick & Evelyn are also my parents' names, lol.
Piss off, scammer. @moviewithmary.....
For more Egyptian history with a twist, check out Stargate from 1994
Yes, the Magi was very handsome, I agree!!!
Rachel Weisz is also good in Constantine, with Keanu Reeves. And that movie is more of a Halloween one :)
That one is in my top 5 of all time. Love it!
Also The Constant Gardener, and I was just reminded of her role in Runaway Jury, which is an interesting and well-acted legal thriller (starring John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman) that Mary could enjoy because of its topic and genre :)
+1 for Constantine!
An amazing Halloween option is Arsenic and Old Lace. It's a comedic stage play turned movie
Brendan Fraser is a national treasure and must be protected. One of the most wholesome men on the planet, who went through some very awful stuff that caused him to stop his acting career for many years. Very glad he's back, we love him.

Broad actually dates from the 1910s and became popular in the 20s. Which is appropriate since this film is set in 1926.
Wrong. Broad is a slang term that refers to women in general. It's based on the fact that women's hips are much wider (broad) than those of men. It has nothing to do with promiscuity.
"My coping skill with being scared is really bad humour." Wow, Mary must be scared all the time!
(I kid, I love Mary's humour. She's really funny.)
19:04 I knew that's what this was, so cute
Such a great reaction, Mary. The second one in the series is good, but the third one kind of falls flat a bit. Thanks for watching!
I love Jet Li as a bad guy, but he could *NOT* save that movie
It was easy to see Stephen Sommers did NOT direct the third. Being producer was not enough involvement to give it his personal style.
The issue with 3 I think is it was made by the CCP and they know how to make propaganda, not film.
@@Quincy_Morris Forgive me if this question is ignorant: What's CCP?

I think it's a great movie for Halloween season. Any monster movie is, the mummy is one of the original monsters. Great reaction!
Great movie. If you're not familiar with Brenden Fraser, you really should react to George of the Jungle. Great comedy starring Brendon.

If you travel to Cairo Egypt to visit the pyramids, you can ride a camel for about 10-20 minutes out into the desert around the pyramids and back with a guide.
Scarabs may be bugs, but they are fine mothers. 4 canopic jars, not 5. Where they keep the mummy's guts.
The Mummy is underrated IMHO
How in the world have you overlooked two of the highest rated and most watched Netflix short series? WEDNESDAY and THE QUEEEN'S GAMBIT. Both are outstanding! Add them to the list.
Believe me you don’t want to ride a camel. They reek, they spit, and I have heard that they bite.🐪
Yes, watch the Whale. It's a whole different genre but a tremendous performance.
You know who I think is Handsome, That guy 😂100% agree 👍
"No way that the camels would ever win this, right?" Actually, not the case. While horses are faster than camels in general, camels will run faster than horses across sand.
FANTASTIC MOVIE!! 👍😎👍
YES!! THANK YOU!!
Mr/s. Editor, thank you for leaving my FAVORITE line in the whole movie! "Compared to you the other plagues were a joy!!" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
RiP Winston!! 💔😭😭
Imhotep wasn't cursed for touching the pharaohs mistress.
He was cursed for murdering the pharaoh.
Oh yeah, now I remember. This is the movie with George Harrison v.2.0
😅 loved this reaction. Lost count of how many times you said "balls" Mary 😅😅😅
You might enjoy a film ... was it from the late '50s or '60s, called "The Egyptian", starring Tony Curtis. That one actually took place in the ancient days.
I don't know why but we have a high school in Philadelphia named Imhotep.
When this came out I knew a ton of ladies that had huge crushes on Brendan Fraser. I had a crush on Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep).
"Broad" is an old-fashioned, crass way of referring to a woman. You'd never call someone that if you were trying to be polite.
"Wait here, I'll go get help." (Splash)
Another great reaction including your coping mechanism to deal with the terror of The Mummy. I also use humor as a coping mechanism but while mine is really bad yours is adorable.😂❤ Here's a Thank you.
Oh, please, please, please do more Brendan Fraser movies. He's one of the best.
One of the best 90s films. The sequel is fun too, just avoid the third one. Rachel Weiss chose not to sign up and without her it just isn't the same.
Stargate is somewhat Egyptian.More SciFi with an Egyptian theme.
Good thing your captioning translated "Hamunaptra 1923" into "Hamunaptra 1923". I don't think i would have gotten that. 😂
Should definitely watch "The Whale," and have some tissues handy.
Camels are faster than horses on soft sand due to the evolution of their toes.
See a connection? You just had a baby. So you’re a mommy. UK: Mummy. How did you miss this link?
The Mummy 1999 and it's sequels the best way to describe them is the Universal Monsters meet Indiana Jones
Aaahh one of my first serious major crushes was on Brendan Fraser. ❤❤❤
I'm always fascinated at the way someone who speaks multiple languages like Mary sometimes pronounces names or regionally specific words differently than a native english speaker! Putting the emphasis on the second syllable in Cleopatra (cle-O-pat-ra) instead of the way I've always heard it, (cle-o-PET-ra) 😁
(please don't be offended, I don't mean it as a criticism, I hardly speak one language myself, it's genuinely interesting to me!)
I love this reaction! I'm a huge fan of the first 2 movies of the franchise!!
26:51 Even the Camel doesn't like him... *Bwhahaha.*
Evie/Rachel Weisz has been married to Daniel Craig (the most recent James Bond) since 2011.
If you want a Scary movie that's not scary now.
The Night of the Demon
A great old B&W with special effect that were great at the time but won't keep you awake at night noe😂
YESSSSSS! Don’t stop with the first one 🤗
Now please watch the original Mummy with Virtuous Karloff! ❤❤❤ and The Invisible Man with Claude Rains
