    I love my Specialita grinder! It does sometimes show weird behaviour and the electronics are blinking from time to time, but it didn't need any repair yet. It is also pretty easy to open up and clean. My solution is Specialita + Commandante C40! The Specialita is for my Lelit Bianca and the C40 is for travel and filter brews. If I would only have one grinder I would choose the Niche though. Btw. I sold my Cafelat Robot when I bought my Lelit Bianca and I really miss the ease of use.

Switching between espresso and pour-over is actually easier than I thought, because espresso range on mine is 1-3 and pour-over range is about +4-5 (+ is one full rotation). Hi, I just came back to this review after looking at it approx 12 months ago as I'm now trying to sort a new home grinder and these two grinders are still on my list. I would very much like your opinion of the Rancilio Stile in comparison to the Eureka Specialita & Niche Zero. I only do espresso and prefer body & texture above clarity and I use medium to dark roast beans. In relation to my preferred espresso flavour profile, I thought the Rancilio Stile might shine with its lower 1200 rpm compared to the higher rpm Eureka Specialita, although I know it's not just all about rpm. I probably sound like a Niche Zero candidate however they are so expensive here in Australia. Hope you can help and thanks for all your reviews. Cheers.

    Thanks for this great comparison. I am looking for the answer of my question, can the Zero grind for turkish coffee? And how fine could you adjust it compare to Eureka?

    • @wiredgourmet
      @wiredgourmet  2 года назад +2

      Absolutely. You can keep turning the adjustment ring finer until the burrs begin to touch. Now, I did notice more clumping and retention than usual in the Turkish range, but the coffee itself was ground very nicely. Compared to the Eureka -- well, I have aligned the burrs on that one so it's now a little more consistent than the Zero at that fine size range. But out of the box, I would say the Zero worked a little better.

    I’m in a lucky position and have both grinders. First I got the specialita after all the reviews. Well I played and played and played but found it to be almost hopeless for Espresso grinding. Firstly the retention is higher than people let on. A good 4-6 grams of coffee every time I clean in and it needed the burrs balancing from the off. On it’s almost lowest setting just off burrs touching it will grind a dark roast with ok. And you can take it a little lower for a dark to medium and that’s about it. So this is now my filter grinder. Now the Niche zero. Totally different yes still a very little retention but next to nothing. As for the grind. Plenty to go at. Managed a complexed light roast and still has plenty room lower. But it’s definitely a espresso grinder as the top end will do filter but not a complexed grind. Others may be different but this is how I find them and I’m a normal human that has a passion for great coffee. Normal but OCD coffee. Lol

    • @dr.angerous
      @dr.angerous Год назад +1

      That's stupid, ye the retention after cleaning might be like 2-4 grams, you need always to 2grams to clean it but niche is the same, don't lie. 2grams after cleaning as well. Not to mention it has no flat burrs. And I got XL not specialita, but it's almost the same

    • @wiredgourmet
      @wiredgourmet  2 года назад

      Thanks. The XL will grind faster than the Spet thanks to slightly larger burrs, but the Spet has proved itself as a great espresso grinder for the money, which the XL hasn't yet done. The XL's burr geometry might be as good or better or not as good, flavor-wise. I'd save money and go with the proven winner.

    I own the Specialita for about 8 months now. I started noticing problems with it when I opened it to clean it. First I thought it was the misalignment and I fixed it but even now, I can only get my 20-25 second extraction when the burrs are touching each other. No one talked about this on RUclips and I don't know if that's normal or not. Where do you get your sweet spot?
    The local dealer won't look at it as long as it's still grinding and running. So that's useless.

    • @wiredgourmet
      @wiredgourmet  2 года назад +2

      I rarely hear about problems with the Spet's adjustment. As you know mine is nicely aligned, so your mileage may vary, but I find the espresso sweet spot -- measurijng from where the burrs just touch -- at 3.5 marks to 4.5 marks from the touch point. Pourover is one revolution -- plus one or two marks -- coarser than that. Maybe check your alignment again using the whiteboard marker. Good luck.

    Any grinder will work for drip or French press coffee but for espresso the Specialita is the best non-commercial grinder. I use a weigh scale and can make grind time adjustments in 1/10 second intervals to get the 17.5 grams I want for a double espresso for a range of coffee beans.
    I do not use the portafilter holder as I like to have the coffee go uniformly around the bottom and then I distribute the ground coffee and then tamp. Grind time is from 8 to 9 seconds so trivial to make adjustments to get the grams of coffee in the portafilter.
    I make 3-4 cups each morning for my wife and myself and using a Zero would add more time to no real gain in the quality of the coffee produced. We also have a 9x10 kitchen and limited counter space. The Specialita and a Bambino Plus take up as much space as we can afford to dedicate for making coffee.
    Any coffee you make yourself is going to be greatly superior to what is available at a Starbuck's.

    I had a Specialita for about five months. Hated it, sold it for little over half of what I paid. High grind retention, due to the declumper (I dose into a dosing cup, and use WDT -- where D for me means declumping). Adjusting the grind is terrible. That tiny knob is not a multi-turn vernier dial, but rather a direct connection to the internals; one turn on that tiny dial goes from as fine to as coarse as it will get.
    When I sold the Specialita, I dusted out my old Ascaso Imini I1, and modified it for single dose, low retention (0.1-0.2 gm / shot...I weigh the input and output for every shot.) A bit of work, using an artist's flat paintbrush to get all the grinds out.
    Just ordered a Niche Zero, because I would like a grinder that's easier to use (to reduce retention), and is a lot younger than my 10+ year old Ascaso. (Which still runs like a champ.)
    My advice: if you are going to buy a Eureka, go try it out (or ensure a great return policy) to see how you like it re: dialing in, and retention.

    Honestly I'd like to buy Niche. But they don't ship to my country (Europe but not EU). Specialita, well there is one person smuggling them. Might as well try it.

      Don't worry; even if you would prefer the Zero, the Spet is an excellent grinder, especially for the price. Enjoy!

    Hi There,
    Really love your channel, your Moka Pot video helped me no end.
    In regards to these grinders, I already have a Commondante C40. I only use this for filter coffee at the moment but I want to get into espresso.
    Which of the grinders in this video would you recommend to compliment it?

    • @wiredgourmet
      @wiredgourmet  2 года назад +2

      Well, the C40 is espresso capable. But if you still want an electric, the Specialita is about $200 cheaper than the Zero and every bit as good. So better value for money for sure.

    Niche or specialita if I do filter coffee in addition to espresso ? Or should I get a dedicated grinder like baratza encore ?

    • @wiredgourmet
      @wiredgourmet  2 года назад +3

      They both grind for both types nicely. The Spet is appr 150 cheaper than the Zero, so maybe better value for money. I would definitely not get a dedicated device If I had either of those grinders.

      @@wiredgourmet thank you for your expertise. Everything I’m reading advises against that. Baratza vario is also same price range as specialita, thoughts on which is better ?

    I have a Specialita packed away in the basement because the shoot got clogged all the time. I finally took out the anti-clumping piece of crap but have been using the Niche for over 5 years now with no issues and minimum maintenance.

    I'll be disliked to hell but just want to point out that it's called and pronounced specialità not specialita , that stands for "speciality" in italian.
