Glad I found this video Shaun. The local cats use my lawn as a loo and I have tried re-seeding it without success. I now realize why. I will buy one of those Propluggers and get to work. Cheers.
robotmower fixed my problems on consistent mowing. And also the raining for days on end problem ( when its dry for a couple of hours i get my phone and mow the lawn, doesnt matter if i am in bed, having dinner or am at work)
‘His name is Shaun and he does lawn’ - ‘where the lawn of thin, you put the seeds in’ - ‘he moves around in a van and he’s only one man’. 😅 Thanks for amazing videos, really helped to get my lawn back on track.
Another excellent update Shaun - me thinks I might be getting a new toy lol What would be good is the 2 week later look at the areas you have refurbished. The after videos are just as interesting as the refurb videos. The little repair pots are a great idea. Thanks again for all your advice.
Hey Shaun - so I have 3 lawns total area is roughly 160 m2 - how much emerald green would I need and whats the ratio for the sprayer (I have the same Oregon one as you)?
Hi. I’m a new subscriber and working through your videos. The plugger is a brilliant idea, I’ve just bought one. I’ve planted a load of grass seed in 6cm pots to hopefully drop in the holes👍
Hey Shaun, another great video. I have a few uses for the Pro-plugger for dog wee and wild grasses so one is ordered for delivery today. Love all the tips and ideas for use and growing grass in pots is a no-brainer, I will be onto that tomorrow, just need to keep them away from the pesky birds and herring gulls round here! Keep up the great work and videos mate, very much appreciated 🙂
I read something the other day that creeping bent was sold in plugs years ago. Love your videos Shaun, you make everything straightforward. Keep them coming fella 👍🏻
Hi Shaun, I'm having to do some serious lawn renovation on sandy soil and I forgot which renovation videos show the materials (compost, fertiliser etc.) that you recommend. Please can you point me to the right videos to save having to go through them all. Thanks, Peter in Dorset.
Hi Peter.. fieldcompost.co.uk and use coupon RIGHT10 at the checkout for 10% off or you can use any multipurpose compost but they will have small twigs and material in thats not fully broken down . Seeds I get from hurrells seeds but any seed will be fine if you just want a nice lawn.. The fertiliser is a1 spring summer fertiliser which is available here amzn.to/3s9lTDE I also link to most products in the description of relevant videos.. hope this helps
I look forward to seeing you test the ProPlugger on a lawn with clay soil. I have a new friend about two hours northeast of me who has been struggling with clay soil. I recommended using a hollow-tine aerator and filling the holes with compost, soil, and a bit of gypsum, but I think the larger holes might be better...if the clay will release from the inside of the tube.
Hi Mike.. me too.. I wonder if it may stick st the entrance but a quick push would work..will see.. I've kept it in my van so I have it on hand for an opportunity!
New Subscriber Shaun, love the level of detail you provide. I’ve got a clay issue where any heavy down pour creates a soggy lawn for a couple of days. I was considering using a petrol Auger to improve drainage but thought this may do the trick as well, not sure 6” is deep enough? You said you haven’t tried it on clay soil but it’s been 9 months. Thought I’d get your take please? Thank you in advance.
Hi... Yeah I've not used the proplugger much yet but for definite, creating holes as deep as possible is key. Whether using an SDS drill with a long drill but or post hole borer etc.. Avoiding any cables or pipes...
Shaun....My back yard is partially grass and partially CLAY DIRT!😢. Please give me suggestions on how to grow grass in the CLAY area. Half the backyard is Clay dirt😢.
Hi getting it to grow is straightforward but keeping it there needs some help.. So scratch the clay with a rake or scarifier to create grooves.. Scatter seeds and firm it all down with feet or a roller.. For extra help cover with a thin layer of dirt or compost.. Keep damp for a month and you should have grass 😊👍
A real good video . The pro - plugger seems to be a handy piece of kit . Could you do a short video on backpack nozzles/jets , I was impressed by the fan on that sprayer . The plant pot idea is great , everybody seems to suffer from urine stains whether it be cats or dogs . I may use one to add some drainage lines on a wet part of my lawn ,by adding fine gravel at the base of hole . Keep up the good work .
I like the look of that pro plugger thing. I've given up on waiting for a Landzie hollow tine aerator to arrive in stock. Could I use a pro plugger for general aeration? How about an auger bit?
I'm really loving it.. it would be ok for aeration but the holes are considerably wider than an aerator and wouldnt close as fast as a normal aerator holes so youd be wise to fill the holes with sandy soil and maybe abit of compost.. auger bits are great for putting wider deeper holes in the ground so it all depends what you're wanting really
@@LawnRightThanks Shaun. I just want to do a thorough aeration. Definitely no aeration has been done since we moved in (7 years ago) and the house was built around 1970. I suspect aeration has never been done since then. So I bought a 30x600 auger bit for deep aeration. Would these holes also need filling with sandy soil/compost?
Thanks for your updates. Quick question: I am having real problems with ants in my lawns. How do you deal with them and get rid of those mounds of earth?
Hey Shawn. Another great video. I read a paper that looked at the impact of Corsica Ryegrass on Poa Annua. Over time the spreading ability of the Cosrsica Rye outcompetes the Poa leading to much less Poa being present in the lawn. I was really pleased to have come across such a study. All the best mate!!
can you please show what should i do with worm cast .i work so hard on my lawn and worm cast looks like no man land in WW1 😭😭😭.they completely destroyed some part of my lawns
I have seen these previously Shaun and hadn’t really given them much thought. However after seeing your video I must say what a handy little tool to add to the collection. Especially with the clay I have in my lawn this would be a really easy way to add holes to the lawn and fill them to improve the soil. Great video once again, enjoying seeing how your lawn plans out this year. Keep up all your hard work 👍
looks like a good tool and would be good for large clay lawns like my own. How will clay come out the top easily as stickier that soil, even with a taper??
Hi Kev.. thanks.. Im not sure 100% on this one.. had ben cutting it super short for the first month or 2 of he renovation, but then had to do some reseeding so raised the height a bit as I couldnt mow while new seeds came through.. so.. id think maybe around 50mm roughly
Regularly sweeping off the dew or moisture.. although that's overkill.. verticut regular..make sure to scarify and aerate at least yearly and fertilise well
just curious why you wouldn't just plug and seed the areas that were bad. Seems like extra work to transplant good grass into the bad spots. Double the work for the same result
What is the best way to treat a clay lawn which easily becomes waterlogged? It is best just to have the clay removed and replaced with new soil? Or could I get away with rotatavating and mixing in new soil?
Hi I've done a few videos on clay lawns... obviously all dug out and replaced is best but expensive.. and might be an issue if it's really deep... ground drainage like French drains etc would be helpful... or you can deep core aerate it many times
