Fully deserved? Mh. Maybe at the end. But the result of the second set was simply laughable. Maybe Federer lost the match there, because it should have been HIS set.
@@martingunzel7913 Yeah, so both could have won it. You make it sound like Federer should have been up two sets to love, though, when in reality he was lucky not to be two sets down. Tsitsipas played the game of his life, hope this win pushes his career forward and releases all the potential he has. I am a Fed fan, but Roger was outplayed today. Truly a game to remember! Congrats to all fans of Stefanos! Gonna watch him more from now on :)
Not sure why this is labelled as an upset. Anyone following the tour knew how great Tsitsipas was with gigantic wins over Djokovic, Thiem, Anderson and zverev in Toronto. He's like a Greek Delpo with an even bigger backhand. Great match.
That forehand of Tsitsipas’, once it gets going, is absolutely lethal, especially inside out, Federer couldn’t deal with it. This was reminiscent of Del Potro’s victory in US Open 2009. The serve as well has so much weight behind it. His motion is interesting in that he brings the racket right over the ball as it falls, using the wrist more to give himself control over placement as well as power. I have not seen a player serve in this manner before, you need to be tall to hit the ball downward that much. Super aggressive play from both with many excursions to the net, this felt like like a call back to traditional tennis, just amazing to watch. The one handed backhand is key to developing net play that can consistently handle power shots from the baseline and that is the difference with Tsitsipas in comparison to the rest of the new generation. As a consumate Federer fan I am sorry to see him exit this tournament, but I am very excited by Tsitsipas. He is very much Roger’s successor. He is taking the all court game forward as Roger has done throughout his career. This style of play needs to be kept alive on the tour as much as possible because it is in danger of being phased out completely. The more styles of play we have in tennis the better!

I wouldn’t call this an upset to be honest. For those who follow tennis closely, we knew that Tsitsipas was capable of this win. He lost a very close match 2 weeks ago at Hopman cup and had already beaten Djokovic last year and other top players. For me this was a 50-50 match up. It’s only an upset on paper..
Congratulations to Stefanos. A victory against one of the best ever like Mr Federer is a great victory.. I am from Greece proud for Stefanos but also I respect Mr Federer
Stefanos has improved so much as a tennis player in recent months. Brilliant victory over the greatest of all time. He'll remember this win for the rest of his life. Congrats Stefanos.
Roger didn't play bad at all, actually. It's just that Tsitsipas played even better. Won't be surprised if he wins the whole thing. Rafa and Nole better watch out. This might be the end of the Big Three era.
Adhiraj Don’t lie to yourself.. Roger’s forehand was completely absent when it mattered. He couldn’t convert any breakpoints and that wasn’t because Tsitsipas was playing so well. Obviously the Greek played an amazing match and deserved to win, but that was not a good match from Roger.
not fully correct, his forehand was weak with no power and there were too many unforced errors. And if you have 12 breakpoints and don't make a break then you probably play bad or it's just bad luck. But still tsitsipas played very well.
Federer played on a pretty high level, and some bad forehand errors don´t change that. He has always been prone to mishits, even in his best matches. Hell, I used to joke that he made more mishits in one season than McEnroe made in his whole career (which is probably true). I mean, his first serve percentage was up to 80%, which is outstanding. Tsitsipas really hung in there, and he managed to win the important points. That´s how it is in tennis sometimes, a point here and there and the outcome might be different.
Not sure why people say "might be the end of the big 3" like it's some massive revelation. They're getting old, end of story. The most impressive part about Federer is the fact that he can still keep up with people nearly half his age, expecting him to continue winning for much longer is asinine.
Beautiful result for a beautiful human being. I have a small crush on Stefanos. He is cute in a Jesus/Shaggy from Scooby Doo kinda way. What a composed and mature performance. Hopefully he will make it to the SF. The ATP needs him in the top 10.
Tsitsipas is one of very few players whose tennis style is watchable. After RF retires there will be not so many tennis matches which will be enjoyable to watch. Tennis is becoming too defensive and it is like watching someone practicing using a tennis practice wall.
That remains to be seen. Tsitsipas is talented, but he has some awefully big shoes to fill. Or maybe he hasn´t. Let him just have his career, and that´s that. No need to compare him to Federer, or anybody else.
It’s hard not to compare him to Federer because he has the charisma and likability factor to match. And like his idol he loves the game and the competition and constantly learning and improving himself. I think he’s the real deal.
@@edwardhannah Call it the real deal, or whatever you like. But having a career like Roger requires many things, luck being one of them. We will just have to wait and see. From what I´m gathering, the overall level on the tour is somewhat improving, after it has been so embarrassingly poor over the last 15 years.
This is one of THE tiebreaks. I am still watching tihis over again in 2021, and probably will for years to come. Edited to add: If the Wimbeldon finals of 2008 was a tiebreak, this probably would be it.
We need someone new to be good and likable, right now this guy is the only one. I hope he does well in the future. I thought Nishikori would be one but he has a lot of disappointments and injury recently.
It's gonna be helluva game, the clash of the NextGen new kid on the block vs the OldGuard pitbull Rafa who's also is one of the two top-favs but the karate kid will play exceptional good tennis too. You have to give credit to kid-Stef though for his talent and humble demeanor, he's been having a great year living the dream and why not ..keep going?
As a Fed fan glad that he lost to a next gen star this time round, rather than an Anderson or Millman type player. At least this felt like a passing of the torch to the next big star, especially one with stylish game like Stefanos.
As a fed fan I’m happy for Tsitsipas, I just hope he doesn’t do what a lot of next gen players seem to do when they knock out a top player at a gs and go straight out next round.
Tsitsipas is playing better tennis in less than a year amazing and his not snob at all he has strong spirit he's more respecte for his opponents than other players. Well done👏
Bravo Stef today vs Federer...you are in finale of masters in London...good luck vs Zverev or Thiem!!!!! I wish your victory...but you are already here where you belong!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

@@juj6022 yeahh Federer has shown us his weakness tonight. His OLD AGE. Even tho with an impressive tie-break record, his old age hampers him to consolidate early leads in the tiebreakers. I think.
Has anyone beaten Djokovic / Nadal and Federer to win a slam? Del Potro didn’t have to, Wawrinka didn’t need to, Cilic didn’t and I don’t think Murray did. Will be tough.
Same thing was said abt chung last year that he could be the best defensive player.. Now everyone forgot him.. So let's wait.. These players are good only at pulling up an upset and to eventually lose in next round.. There is nothing special abt tsitsipas game.. He really benefitted from Roger's errors.. @@vijayendranvijay4538 Exactly! In my opinion, these new generation of players very much reflect the generation they live in. Good enough for 15 minutes of fame, but not good enough to go all the way. They can win, sure, but they lack the grit, persistence, and toughness to win, even a single tournament. @@MrPatrickbuit Yes. But the Greek didn't miss many balls. He played high percentage tennis, and that too playing aggressive.
not fully correct, his forehand was weak with no power and there were too many unforced errors.
Μπράβο Στέφανε, Απίστευτος !!! Μας ανεβάζεις !!! Respect στον Federer, τον καλύτερο όλων των εποχών!!!
Beautiful result for a beautiful human being. I have a small crush on Stefanos. He is cute in a Jesus/Shaggy from Scooby Doo kinda way.
What a composed and mature performance. Hopefully he will make it to the SF. The ATP needs him in the top 10.
I just love his one handed back hand. Like roger
Μας κάνεις περήφανους! ❤ GR ❤
Stefanos, congratulations!
You made us really really proud!✌🏆🏅
You are phenomenon player STEFANOS
@greg oscar yes cos beat him, while was behind on set,and beat him on tie break...
Salute you federer. Even at that age, youngstars are toiling hard. Nobody will be like you Roger.
Tsitsipas doing God's work
Well it's about time.... Well done New Guy... History was made.
Greece is the smaller athletic giant ,no else country of 10 millions have so many successes in all sports
why am i so emotional.. :). That was a great feeling. Well Played Tsitsipas, Take a Bow for Sir Roger, the Great. Wonderful Match.
Tsitsipas is one of very few players whose tennis style is watchable. After RF retires there will be not so many tennis matches which will be enjoyable to watch. Tennis is becoming too defensive and it is like watching someone practicing using a tennis practice wall.
Proud to be Greek συγχαρητήρια τσιτσιπά
You make millions of Greeks happy that day.
Wow so conflicted because I love both these players. Happy and sad at the same time because this literally was a changing of the guards.
From what I´m gathering, the overall level on the tour is somewhat improving, after it has been so embarrassingly poor over the last 15 years.
fundhund62 just in time and hope they take it to the next level.
Such a nice guy, Roger, a real sportsman, either losing or winning.
He has the game, the mental strength, the looks... He has it all!
As a Fed fan glad that he lost to a next gen star this time round, rather than an Anderson or Millman type player. At least this felt like a passing of the torch to the next big star, especially one with stylish game like Stefanos.
You are tops Stefane. You are the next big tennis superstar that will win Wimbledon. Congratulations Greece bravo levedia
As a fed fan I’m happy for Tsitsipas, I just hope he doesn’t do what a lot of next gen players seem to do when they knock out a top player at a gs and go straight out next round.
Sam de Sainte Croix well he won 🥳
I was pleased to see! Rafa next!
Tsitsipas is playing better tennis in less than a year amazing and his not snob at all he has strong spirit he's more respecte for his opponents than other players. Well done👏
Greek power.bravo agori mou apo kipro.mas ekanes perifanous.o federer pantos ine o kaliteros olon ton epoxon xoris amfivolia
Bravo Stef today vs Federer...you are in finale of masters in London...good luck vs Zverev or Thiem!!!!! I wish your victory...but you are already here where you belong!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
🙌🙌🙌🙌 PROUD!!!!
What an amazing game of tennis, I’m a big fan of Federer but loved watching Tsitsipas play amazing tennis
Well played Tsitsipas .
🎾
Tsitsipas played like federer used to play in his hey days... this guy deserves applaud..and for fed...finally now it seems that he will not rejuvenate again as he did two years ago in Australian open...
ΜΠΡΆΒΟ ΣΤΈΦΑΝΕ !!!!!
🎾⭐💙👏👏👏👏👏❗❗❗
This is why tennis is such an unique sports. The amount of work you have to put in to get you here to even have a chance to play against Fed, and then winning it, all shows in the emotions.
On the plus side, this loss increases the chances of Roger playing some clay court matches this year
He’s not gonna play.
@J M Win or lose, I'm sure many people (me included) would love to see Federer play on clay once again
lol he just confirmed he'll definitely play on clay
when is the last time that dick ever played on clay? Anyone?
@@coughhy why don't you tell Federer that?
Fedfan here..it's great to see new true talent we've been waiting on for years.this is a great thing.even the age difference Tsistipas barely beat the goat.
Great to see this style carried on.no I still think Fed has a few titles left in him.not sure if they'll be Grandslam but still.
Great job Tsistipas!
I’m so happy for Bjorn Borg.
jetpack 😂😂😂😂
Bravo!!!! All the beat in your next match Stefanos!!!
tsisipas and tiafoe are exciting youngsters
Eh Tiafoe not so much
@@patrickweng1726 every1 has their own opinions, but watching hjs matches this year you can see he upped his game. he has a uniqueness to his game that i enjoy watcging. love that forehand and flat bh, not to mention a good serve, and improved touch coming inn off the baseline
@@michaelbuselli336 tsitsipus is way better from tiafoe
Tiafoe is a lazy player his serve is good and also he is not consestant
He will never win a grand slam or somethink special tournament win coz he has no potentital like that at all he is a good player its all
My list of possible future big 3
Tsitsipas
Coric
Basilashvili
Medvedev
Kachanov
while RBA has begun 2019 the best, I still would like to watch more before I comment on his potential
tiafoe has a very dull game. he will need to step up and take some chances if hes going to do anything in the sport. honestly if he doesnt try to improve more then where he is at now i dont think hed even win a 1000
What a match! I didn’t see this coming at all! Such poise, determination, and play from Tsitsipas! Especially the very first game in the first set. I’m so impressed that he didn’t get rattled; very crappy of that umpire. Very high-level match too. The best of the tournament so far in my book.
Next Task:
Nadal and Djokovic
Imagine if he managed to pull that off that would be the greatest first slam victory ever.
@@juj6022 yeahh Federer has shown us his weakness tonight. His OLD AGE. Even tho with an impressive tie-break record, his old age hampers him to consolidate early leads in the tiebreakers. I think.
🤣🤣bit to much, No1e 💪
Has anyone beaten Djokovic / Nadal and Federer to win a slam? Del Potro didn’t have to, Wawrinka didn’t need to, Cilic didn’t and I don’t think Murray did. Will be tough.
TheCricketer15 don’t think so. Berdych beat both roger and nole on his way to the 2010 Wimbledon final but he lost against Rafa.
Young n talented.... never give up.. . Congratt.. 🤩😘😍
Greek hero indeed
Εκτός από τοπ τενίστας είσαι και απίστευτα γοητευτικός !!!!!!......😍😍😍
I think change of guard of single handers.
Relax, he hasn't even won this tournament. LOL.
He was really finding it hard to even earn a break point chance against roger for most part of the match
No surprise that the winners are STILL the same faces you see time and time again.
@@elliotlee9577 Fed won his first ATP title the year he turned 20. Stepanos is the same age. That same year (2001) was the year Fed def Sampras @ Wimbledon, was knocked out in the next round. The kid has incredible potential and yes, he still needs to live up to it but give him a descent change. Djeez.
@@elliotlee9577 Nah, Stefanos is here to stay. He has proven he can beat the best BEFORE the Aussie Open.
This has to be one of the most graceful celebrations I've seen.
Tonight, Roger needs to think about his future career with his wife
After losing match at hopeman cup he did his homework very well...... well deserved victory....... future superstar
