The semi final against Del Potro is the one I remember most. Del Potro was blasting him off the court for the first 3 sets. Roger so easily could have lost his big chance.
I think this is a great example of how a talent that's too great can turn against itself at times. If I were to be in his place (which of course i couldn't even imagine, i'm just speculating here), independently of how it seemed from the outside, I would have believed I was underperforming and I would have gotten frustrated why nothing was working out. And eventually things would effectively not work as well , because this perfectionist mindset would start affecting my play. Even in 2010 he lost to Jurgen Melzer in the Quarters, he was never that big of a threat on the French Open, the same as Nadal was on HCs before 2009, just good enough to make the semis and quarters and lose to good players and make finals on the smaller tournaments. if by a chock you mean a top 4 player losing at the French then yes, Djokovic losing in 2009 French Open was chock but that's about it, he wasn't going to win the French against either Nadal or Federer and his best possible outcome would have been to reach the final.

Let’s not forget the context. Nadal and Djokovic, the two big shots at that moment had been upset by Soderling and Kohlschreiber. When Roger went down 0-2 everyone counted him out as another victim of a major upset.
Apart from Nadal losing to Soderling (which is the biggest upset in tennis history) Djokovic losing to Kolshrieber wasn't as much of chock, it was surely an upset because Djokovic has won the Australian Open just months before but he wasn't that huge of contender at the French.
@@gherbihicham8506 he had just given Nadal a run for his money in Madrid losing 7-6 in the third and having 4 match points after 4 hours. He was THE candidate to challenge Nadal.
BTW he won the AO in 2008, not 2009
@@juanantoniozuleta6575 Madrid is Nadal's worst clay court Masters statistically, even Federer managed to beat him there but he was never going to beat him in the French Open, Djokovic was never that big of threat on clay to Nadal before 2011, he was a great HC player of course but just good enough to reach the finals at masters- level tourneys when playing his best tennis and then lose to Nadal, before 2012 he had never even won a set against Nadal on the French Open and was basically destroyed at the 09 Davis cup (a five setter) on Clay by Nadal.
Gherbi Hicham Nadal lost to Soderling at RG in 2009. Are you saying the Swede was a bigger threat than Nole who made finals in Montecarlo and Rome and took Nadal to the limit in Madrid?
Juan Antonio Zuleta no, I was saying Djokovic's loss wasn't that chocking, it's the same as Nadal's loss to Blake in the 06 USO, nobody was expecting Nadal to win the thing anyway, it's only until 2008 Olympics that he became a threat on big HC tournaments
bear in mind, Roger was recovering from mono from the year before, which saps you from energy and can take over a year to fully recover
That forehand right there at 2 sets and a break point down is probably the most important shot of his career.
Such a beautiful game watching two world class single backhander
It was. And the next match vs del Potro too
This is the video i been looking dor
Tommy haas delivered in this match. Sad he has retired.
Great video and articulation.
One of the best if not the best to ever play the game of tennis.
8:14 superb kick serve went so wide. From 2 sets down and bad form until mid 3rd set, 6-0 4th set ?!! Best come back ever just like the AO this year he saved 7 match points. Never say never
i’m pretty sure everyone knows 2013 was his worse season.
2008:
AO - SF
RG - F
W - F
US - W
i see what your saying but still it was a lost worse in 2013. Nevertheless an excellent video as always! :)
People forget the 2008 slump actually lasted from January 08 to the clay season 09. Some commentators were saying he was gonna have an early retirement like Borg. The match against Rafa at Madrid did a lot for his confidence, suddenly 2 months later he’s got the career slam and the slam count, cementing his goat status.
Miracle happened on my 4th birthday (4 is my lucky number and federer my favorite player) what a coincidence that’s crazy
Teniss history best player Roger federer
From almost losing the match to bagelling the opponent in the next set, only the madlad Federer can pull this off. The only requirement for him to be practically unbeatable is him being in a good mood lol.
sick intro bro
That was worthy for Federer he won Rolland garros and completed his 14 grand slam compared with pate Sampras.. how lucky he was
Roger Federer est mon idole grand joueur et artiste dans tous les cours de tennis .
👍🏻
amazing
"Has he missed another one?" - "He Haas!"
Lol
4.5 years of dominance how insane is that
this is wrong, nadal also lost to novak on roland garros 2015
He probably meant to say "at the time" not "until this day".
also i guess it was the 1st and only in 4th round....i guess nadal lost to novak in quarters
Maybe he didn’t count it because nadal was far from 100% in 2015
@@baloproductions a win is win...
When soldering beat Rafa that was crazy rocked the world
Roger's birthday is on the 8th Aug. How do I know? Mine is too 😍
Then you must be talented as Federer.
Yeah at sleeping 🤣

The three aces in a row was when you really knew he was back

In tennis, your mental game is just as important as your physical game.
"Getting more emotional in his old age." If only they knew...
tennis its a mental game
