I always interpreted these lyrics as coming from the perspective of the veteran:
"The wrong side of heaven" meaning what they've done makes them unworthy of getting into heaven and "the righteous side of hell" means what they've done means they don't deserve hell, either.

Wrong side of Heaven, righteous side of Hell . Those 8 words explain a lot about why many of us have issues after deployment. I'm a Desert Storm veteran myself and one of the hardest things is coming back and trying reconcile who I am now with who I was before I left. It changes you as a person , in a way that is difficult to put into words. You're still you but not, there is a piece of that experience that comes home with you and lives with you , sometimes it's a weight, other times a memory or a feeling, but it is always there . I think this might help explain a lot to others : We do what must be done because it must, however that doesn't mean we want to , we just have to............

Living under a bridge in a tent, even through the brutal northeast winters. It wasn’t until my dad wouldn’t stop hounding the VA for months that they located him and gave him a cellphone. I remember the day my uncle came home, seeing him cry because he had a bed. I will forever be grateful that we got to spend the last 7 years of his life together as a family. I did my time from '93 to '01. I was on the streets for almost a year. I was one of the fortunate ones that had a father who served, brother who served. When they found out I was on the streets, they found me and took me off the streets. My dad said no son of his is going to be homeless, ESPECIALLY after serving this country. My brother gave me some "get going again" cash and gave me some contacts to help me out. This is the simple type of stuff our government could be doing for our men and women who served, instead they get swept under a rug somewhere. I do my best to help out vets but 1 person just cant solve the problem. It takes a COUNTRY. I appreciate yalls kind words. They mean a lot to a lot of folks out there. Keep it up👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Music plays a huge role in my heart and i always picture myself reliving a song as if i were in the story being told. This song breaks my heart every time. i watch a lot of youtubers react to this and to see their emotions it breaks my heart, for the fact that they are learning something possibly for the first time, just like Shawn's reactions to reading that stats of what's going on everyday in this country. I will never be able to make it through this video without it getting to me. I am an Army vet that served 13 years before being forced out of the service because of my chronic PTSD. I know how it feels to spiral and hit rock bottom of that deep dark hole, however I was blessed that my wife and family were strong enough to stay by my side when i was at my darkest and helped me pull my self back from that hell. It wasn't easy on them i know. I have brothers and sisters in arms out there that are not so lucky. It is no falt of the vet and no fault of their family. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY your family will even begin to fathom the hell we go through on deployments unless they are military as well and even then everyone's deployment is different. You could be doing the exact same job as your fellow soldier, but there will always be that one mission(but usually more) that will make your experience different from everyone else. It breaks my heart that my brothers and sisters go through this and become another statistic. I know there are people out there such as yourselves that do care, but do not know how severe it is. That is not your fault. The numbers are PURPOSELY down played or hidden from everyone so the government can keep treating us like pieces of equipment that is no longer of use and are to be discarded. They spend more money, time and effort to sweep veterans issues under the rug than it would take to actually give us the support we need. It is all about power and control and by discarding vets in need they can control those soldiers still in by keeping them in feat that if they get out their life will be difficult because "they can only support a small percentage of veterans be cause of all the special care veterans require is very expensive" which is complete BULL SH*T!!!!!!!! Sorry about my ran but it needs to be said. I beg you all to please go out and do some real research on these issues so you can see how we are grossly treated. The more people that know the true stats and become vocal about it the harder it will be to ignore!!!!

I'm a veteran of both desert wars and was homeless after my service. So, this one hits me hard. The lyrics are so dead on what it's like. I appreciate FFDP representing us.

Really you appreciate, Thank you for serving, that doesn't solve anything. While those heroes that are living on the streets. With nothing to eat.will never hear those words from you. And honestly don't care what you think or say.

Thank you for reacting to this song. Also, thank you for your support. My husband and I are both veterans and one of our sons is heading off to the Army as well. My husband has PTSD and it is a struggle. This is hard to watch with our son leaving soon. Thanks for helping to bring awareness to our vets!

    @ShawnandMel:
Thank you for reacting to this song. It means a lot to us veterans -- more than you'll ever know. And Mel, I've watched a video where you say you were a police officer for 7 years, so before I forget: Thank you for your service.
One statistic I've learned in the last couple of days, is that fully 50% of homeless people in the United States, are veterans.
If you know a veteran, please know that one person can save a life. One person can make a difference. And I beg you: If you are fighting your own personal hell, your own war, get help. Please. Get help somewhere. Anywhere. When you served, you had a team watching your six. As a veteran, it's no different. You are not alone, and you never have been. Too many times, too many brothers and sisters decide the fight isnt worth staying in, and they take their own lives, by their own hands. There is help out there -- if you need it, use it. You both earned and deserve it.
"When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl. When you can't crawl...when you can't do that...you find someone to carry you." ~ Firefly ep. 11, "The Message"

As a veteran, this video always makes me cry, I had Battle Buddies suffer from PTSD, and as a result needed to be chaptered out (Medically discharged) for their declining mental state. One guy in my unit, we called him Big Mac... you couldn't come up behind him or touch him as it would cause him to snap and punch you... I don't know where he is, but I hope he is well and to my brothers/sisters in arms who read this and think you are alone, you are not. Other Vets think about you, and you can always reach out to them for support, even if it's just to talk. Seek help it's always a phone call away.

Yes this is deep. FFDP puts it on for the MILITARY. GOD BLESS THEM! Disabled combat veteran here. I have recovered from the physical injuries as well as possible. PTSD though, PTSD is a mthfker. It destroys you from the inside. It will take some time, as long as it needs to. It is patiently waiting to slowly break you mentally! Thanks for the reaction.

I'm an Military brat of an 2X Veteran of Viet Nam. I was born on his 1st tour as a Marine and he did a 2nd tour as an Army Helicopter pilot in Dust Off. He came home damaged but he's alive still and healed. I can't relate to racism growing up a military brat. We all loved each other and we we're all in the same boat. Peace, Love, God, Guns and Family. Hill Girl out!

This song is always deep and hits you. My husband has deployed now is 6th and last time before he retires. He has lost a lot of friends due to taking their lives after coming home. It is really sad. His unit had a huge number at Campbell,KY and his Chaplin made a movie #NoGreaterLoveTheMovie about deployment and how soldiers and their families deal with coming back home. His unit was also shown on The Hornets Nest my husband was home all of 5 to 6 days when that happened. We lost tons of guys and he took it to heart for years even around the anniversary of the battle. It was the last one before they were all to come home so it hit so hard. 💔❤💔❤💔

I love the passion that the American people have for the Vetrans and serving, it's so sad to say but I honestly don't see that in Britain / UK, I have been a Civillian for 8 years now and its so hard to adapt to the so called normal aspects of life ie running a house working with individuals with no core values etc, I had a saying that was over used when I left the Military " life was so much easier when all you had to do is stay alive".
I'm a Vetran of 22 years service in the British Army, I have seen active service in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and United Nation peace support operations.
It's fair to say I watch this and it hits hard, so many accuracies attached to this video and many more like it.
I would like to take this opertunity to thank my amazing Daughter for standing by me and giving me a reason to come home, this young lady grew up with me serving so she has sacrificed and shown selfless commitment for the greater good too, I love you so much and thank you for being you my amazing Daughter.
I'm proud to have served my family, country and SOME of the good people within it, I would also like to state that my service was all combat based and I served with heros, my Brothers and Sisters respect to you and I love you all.
    Nigel.

You don't know how the supporting Veterans movement, has affected us Vietnam Vets!! It took another WAR, 45/50 years later to finally open the eyes of the American public, to the devastation and consequences of WAR on our young soldiers! I was 18 and just out of High School, and did 1 tour in Nam, Laos, and Cambodia, doing patrol missions for 11 months. The veterans of that WAR, kept quiet, as we were looked upon as unjust killers. The only place or refuge we had the past 50 years was our VFW, and even then it wasn't about swapping stories! So we are so proud of the MOVEMENT and RECKOGNITION our Men and women have been receiving!
