I was a Homeless Veteran for 7 years. Things are looking up I've been in my apartment for almost a year and finally have joint custody of my 10 year old daughter.
Thank you Mr Williams sir for your sacrifice for I am very pleased to hear things are getting better for you but I am truly sorry nobody (our government/country) didn't help you and countless other's. It is an honor and a pleasure to be able to thank you, I just wished it was in person so I could salute you and shake your hand. I wanted to follow in my cousins footsteps Audie Murphy (Army) or my hero my granddaddy (Marine) but in spring of 76 I had open heart surgery at the age of 5 so that knocked me out of joining the military but I didn't know that till my teen years. It sickens me how our government has dropped the ball on taking care of our vets. TWENTY TWO suicides a day! This should not be happening and it angers me 😡
Saddens me more so than angers. Every man or woman who has served or is serving is a brother or sister in arms. Losing that many family members is heartbreaking. It is a reason I try my damndest to interact with as many vets as I can at my workplace. If one positive encounter can keep one of my brothers or sisters alive for another day mission accomplished.
@@danielrupp7578 I guess the anger comes from the fact that a lot of them could possibly be avoided. A family member was so close to being a statistic, but a non profit came in just in time to save her. It's a helpless feeling when you're throwing a life preserver to someone, but they're to tired to grab it. Thank you for doing what you can. Take care!
Yeah I did the math too. I was curious after seeing this video make the rounds on react channels again what the numbers were. Made me sad and angry. Especially when people say "We need to help vets before helping illegals/foreigners". Great talking point. No one does it so it's a talking point made to generate anger and USE Veterans to keep other people down. We could easily take care of all Veterans but to those at the top, there's no money in it. Time to stop punching down. Lets punch up!

We have had people in every branch, both men & women. And it does enfuriate me that money needed to help our Vets be isn't there. But, my family also lives in a border town. And it's as if the floodgates have opened. They have been burglerized. They have people banging on the doors day and night making demands! We need to know who is coming here. And what they have to offer. The merit based system is the best way to do this. I know my Stepfather immigrated here.

I just had breakfast with a homeless vet this morning. Brought him warm clothing and blankets (his had holes in them).. I wish I could do more. One day I’ll be able to, in the mean time I’ll do as much as I can. One vet at a time. 💔😢
This is heartbreaking, do one thing when you see an old vet out and about: shake his hand and tell him thanks, and that you're glad he made it home. It will make their day!
Even shaking the hand of a vet who didn't see action goes a long way... Some days it's enough to make tears well up. Many of of us fee forgotten or ignored and a simple acknowledgement is enormous.
Theres a ton of young ones now, my Son's age a few of hus freinds have comitted suicide since they came home!and he lost lifelong freinds there as well!
Most of the Vets I've met that are struggling DO NOT want to be thanked or called a hero. Telling them you are glad they made it home makes them think of all their brothers who did not. Talk with them, if they'll talk. Buy them a meal, but many can't sit in a restaurant (noise and comotion). If they're living on the streets offer clothes or food and to sit/walk with them for a while. Don't be offended when they refuse or don't respond.
Same here, especially that scene where "Jacoby" meets up with his Battle Brother who had saved his life and seeing that he had been living on the streets Or even the scene where the one veteran was getting cuffed and the officer cuffing him had noticed that they had the same tattoo, implying that they'd served in the same unit

I have an interesting relationship with this song. I heard it from their album and listened to it for well over a year before ever watching the music video. It completely changed my perspective on the song, and it still gives me at least a tear, if not full on crying, every time near the end where he helps his old Sgt up.... I come from a long line of Marines and Army, Grand Dad, my Dad, my Brother and uncles and other relatives who served WWII, Korea, and my Brother in Nam... I cried when I watched this video when it came out in 2017... And just cried again, Thanks for Playing this

I wasnt boots on the ground military but i was in the navy. This video always brings a tear. No matter how much shit we give each other in the different branches the brotherhood is fierce. My heart goes out to all the bad ass door kickers that have been thru and r still in the fight.
This video always makes me cry. When i first saw it it changed me life. i now volunteer in my community helping our veterans. And when i see a man or woman in uniform i stop them and shake their hand and just thank them for everything they do.

Have to say I got lucky. Lived in my car for a year. Met a man, who I worked for free, he was disabled. This man found a home, and car, and property. 100% owned now. Took alot of money on my part. But never have found it without him. Thanks Charlie!! I'm a Veteran.
As an ex-reservist, here in Australia, who served in a time of peace. My heart goes out to all the vets who fall through the cracks. In WW1, WW2 and Korea, soldiers would have to go through out-processing in a transit country. This would be 1-2 weeks usually. Then they would be loaded up on a ship to go home. From Vietnam on, you would depart from your unit, you might get a awake up in Japan or Germany... but a lot of soldiers went straight from their unit to the airport and within 24 hours of being in a combat zone, they were home. Walking around in the real world in what they call trigger time. A cousin of mine who had served in Vietnam told me, many years later, that when he came home, he had to tell his parents to just call out his name from the door instead of entering the room. His mum forgot one day and just walked in and grabbed his shoulder. He apparently came off the bed, grabbed her and pinned her against the wall before he was fully awake and aware of what was going on. She never forgot again. And the governments who send these people into the hot zones expect these people to just come back to the real world and be walking around like normal without thinking of the trauma they went through. The things they had to do to survive would break most people... yes... these people are trained to do this. But it is a lot different from putting a bullet into a paper target to putting a bullet into a living human being. You would have to be a sociopath not to be affected by it. So... hats off to these guys for doing something to raise awareness in people about the plight of vets.

Thank you for reacting to this. As a daughter of a Vietnam veteran who is 100% disabled at the age of 19 serving our country, this band from my understanding does alot for our Veterans .. This means alot to veterans and their families
Bruce Springsteen too! When the Vietnam Veterans of America were about to go under, he held a benefit concert and donated all if the proceeds to the VVA. After that, many other musicians followed him. If it wasn't for the VVA, I don't think my dad would be here today. They got him the help he needed. As a way to pay it forward, he now leads a bible study and support group for veterans in his area because he no longer lives near a VVA office.

Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Have several vets in my family who have retired from the army and navy. I try to notice the guys walking around with the veterans hats and try to thank them for their service. Especially the Vietnam vets. When they got home they were called baby killers and got spit on most of the time no matter what they went through. Thank vets every day, not just Veterans Day.
This song has so much meaning for my family. We have served this country since before it was a country. Right now we have 3 generations who have been in combat. My dad is a Vietnam veteran, i am a Desert Storm vetran and my son has done 5 tours in Afghanistan. For me to see a homeless veteran tears me up. For everyone who is able to adjust and be able to function in society 100 can't. We have to do better for our troops.

I was a Navy Corpsman and worked with our Sailors and Marines I joined during Desert Storm, I love how this band and others such as Toby Keith, Coffey Anderson 3 Doors Down bring recognition to the Veterans.

When I got out of the Navy my schools and training meant nothing to employers when I was looking for a job. A lot of businesses claim to be veteran friendly but unless you know someone who’s been hired by one of these companies don’t take their claim seriously.
Not sure what year you got out, if it was recent or not, but it wasn't always like that. I am 50 years old and where I work those that are around my age are mostly Navy or Marines. Today everyone but one guy that is 35 and younger have never served. I have no idea why it changed but one thing I can say for certain is the quality of employee we hire has free fallen. If I had to guess is the kid with a 2 year degree is cheaper than a vet with experience. It is so sad to see.
The only ones who (claim) to give a shit (they actually don't) are minimum wage paying retailers. They hire veterans to patronize and pander to their customers.

I've been shamed by family and friends for being a vet. I thought about suicide everyday for years. I'm a purple heart disabled vet that finally understands what life is about. I'm so thankful to have served.
Any little bit helps, it don’t have to be money at all. Got a buddy, he drives disabled vets to Dr. appts, and to the airport for Honor Flights. That kind of thing really helps guys and gals that have trouble getting there. God bless

I am a submarine vet from the 70's and have been spit on and called a baby killer and every time I hear this song it makes me cry, and I was one of the lucky ones
My Bro enlisted after 9/11 at 32 years of age. He fought on foreign soil; he was shot, run-over, and has floating bones in his back and shrapnel in his back, arms, face.... The VA spits in his face at 40% disability. His lower back and nerves are basically non-functioning. From the waist down his left leg is completely numb and doesn't always know when he needs to "express himself". He still walks but his end game is being a paraplegic AND he is 51!!! He thanks God everyday for another day lived and he views everyday as AN OPPORTUNITY NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Praise God he came home alive when so many other didn't.
I give clothes and food as much as possible. I have a pick up at my house this Monday and asked everyone at work to donate what they can and I'll add it to what I am giving. Do what you can people.

Just the first 30 seconds of this song makes me cry as I have had 2 brothers take their own lives in the last 3 years and 1 who lost his wife and daughter in a failed marriage. I'm so happy people are now appreciating our vets. I remember when my father came back from Vietnam, people were calling him a baby killer and being spit at. I know he had to have had PTSD. But it wasn't known back then. He died less then a year after he came home.

This hurts. Two tours in Afghanistan. I remember my first fourth of July home. The fireworks went off and that's all I remembered. It was dark out and as soon as I heard the pops, I was back in that desert telling everyone to get down. Shooting my pistol towards the sounds. I shot at my two cousins. It took my grandpa, my uncle and my great uncle who all served, to bring me back to reality. It caused my daughter's to be scared of me. It caused my family to be a lot more cautious around me. It hurt me. It hurt my wife because she didn't know how to help me. Thankfully that was 8 years ago, I was able to get the care I needed. And we've been good ever since. But for so many they never get the care they deserve. I appreciate you bringing attention to this.

Excellent work brother! I am in the military and this gives me a range of emotions from anger to sadness. Reacclimating is tough especially for some that have experienced some rough stuff but we've come a long way in helping those retiring/discharged to acclimate a bit better.
I love your review. I served 17 years. Medically retired. I have some PTSD. Not like this. The sad part of this is it is worse now. Many ultra liberals even protested and interrupted our funerals. We never saw such horrible treatment of vets since Vietnam. This one thing. The issues with the VA and government and public lead almost unharmonious support to elect and likely re-elect Trump. As bad as Trump is nearly all vets support him. My Son is a PTSD vet living on the streets. I can't get him to come home. he served 3 years only. Thanks for your kind words. Im glad I met my wife and I no long have those worries - she is my drive to never be homeless again to never be at the end of a rope, and to never stare at the one time lead diet ever again. I'm sure as hell no hero - but I sure as fuck served with a few. HOOYAH

No words can describe what these Veterans have you experienced through their eyes, it's one thing to hear about it, but it's a completely different world to experience it. I remember all the stories that my grandfather told me that he experienced during the Korean War as an Army Ranger. Despite the stories he has told me, all I can do is Imagine.

This is heartbreaking, do one thing when you see an old vet out and about: shake his hand and tell him thanks, and that you're glad he made it home. It will make their day!
Even shaking the hand of a vet who didn't see action goes a long way... Some days it's enough to make tears well up. Many of of us fee forgotten or ignored and a simple acknowledgement is enormous.
I do this every time I meet a person who is a veteran or currently enlisted and in active duty
Theres a ton of young ones now, my Son's age a few of hus freinds have comitted suicide since they came home!and he lost lifelong freinds there as well!
Most of the Vets I've met that are struggling DO NOT want to be thanked or called a hero. Telling them you are glad they made it home makes them think of all their brothers who did not. Talk with them, if they'll talk. Buy them a meal, but many can't sit in a restaurant (noise and comotion). If they're living on the streets offer clothes or food and to sit/walk with them for a while. Don't be offended when they refuse or don't respond.

I have an interesting relationship with this song. I heard it from their album and listened to it for well over a year before ever watching the music video. It completely changed my perspective on the song, and it still gives me at least a tear, if not full on crying, every time near the end where he helps his old Sgt up....

I wasnt boots on the ground military but i was in the navy. This video always brings a tear. No matter how much shit we give each other in the different branches the brotherhood is fierce. My heart goes out to all the bad ass door kickers that have been thru and r still in the fight.

This video always makes me cry. When i first saw it it changed me life. i now volunteer in my community helping our veterans. And when i see a man or woman in uniform i stop them and shake their hand and just thank them for everything they do.

Have to say I got lucky. Lived in my car for a year. Met a man, who I worked for free, he was disabled. This man found a home, and car, and property. 100% owned now. Took alot of money on my part. But never have found it without him. Thanks Charlie!! I'm a Veteran.
As an ex-reservist, here in Australia, who served in a time of peace. My heart goes out to all the vets who fall through the cracks. In WW1, WW2 and Korea, soldiers would have to go through out-processing in a transit country. This would be 1-2 weeks usually. Then they would be loaded up on a ship to go home. From Vietnam on, you would depart from your unit, you might get a awake up in Japan or Germany... but a lot of soldiers went straight from their unit to the airport and within 24 hours of being in a combat zone, they were home.
Walking around in the real world in what they call trigger time. A cousin of mine who had served in Vietnam told me, many years later, that when he came home, he had to tell his parents to just call out his name from the door instead of entering the room. His mum forgot one day and just walked in and grabbed his shoulder. He apparently came off the bed, grabbed her and pinned her against the wall before he was fully awake and aware of what was going on. She never forgot again.
And the governments who send these people into the hot zones expect these people to just come back to the real world and be walking around like normal without thinking of the trauma they went through. The things they had to do to survive would break most people... yes... these people are trained to do this. But it is a lot different from putting a bullet into a paper target to putting a bullet into a living human being. You would have to be a sociopath not to be affected by it.
So... hats off to these guys for doing something to raise awareness in people about the plight of vets.
I've friends and family in multiple branches of the military and this video makes me cry every time. Support our troops everyone.

Thank you for reacting to this. As a daughter of a Vietnam veteran who is 100% disabled at the age of 19 serving our country, this band from my understanding does alot for our Veterans .. This means alot to veterans and their families
Bruce Springsteen too! When the Vietnam Veterans of America were about to go under, he held a benefit concert and donated all if the proceeds to the VVA. After that, many other musicians followed him. If it wasn't for the VVA, I don't think my dad would be here today. They got him the help he needed. As a way to pay it forward, he now leads a bible study and support group for veterans in his area because he no longer lives near a VVA office.

Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Have several vets in my family who have retired from the army and navy. I try to notice the guys walking around with the veterans hats and try to thank them for their service. Especially the Vietnam vets. When they got home they were called baby killers and got spit on most of the time no matter what they went through. Thank vets every day, not just Veterans Day.
This song has so much meaning for my family. We have served this country since before it was a country. Right now we have 3 generations who have been in combat. My dad is a Vietnam veteran, i am a Desert Storm vetran and my son has done 5 tours in Afghanistan. For me to see a homeless veteran tears me up. For everyone who is able to adjust and be able to function in society 100 can't. We have to do better for our troops.

I was a Navy Corpsman and worked with our Sailors and Marines I joined during Desert Storm, I love how this band and others such as Toby Keith, Coffey Anderson 3 Doors Down bring recognition to the Veterans.

I retired from the Army in 2014. I ball my eyes out every time I see this.
When I got out of the Navy my schools and training meant nothing to employers when I was looking for a job. A lot of businesses claim to be veteran friendly but unless you know someone who’s been hired by one of these companies don’t take their claim seriously.
Not sure what year you got out, if it was recent or not, but it wasn't always like that. I am 50 years old and where I work those that are around my age are mostly Navy or Marines. Today everyone but one guy that is 35 and younger have never served. I have no idea why it changed but one thing I can say for certain is the quality of employee we hire has free fallen. If I had to guess is the kid with a 2 year degree is cheaper than a vet with experience. It is so sad to see.
The only ones who (claim) to give a shit (they actually don't) are minimum wage paying retailers. They hire veterans to patronize and pander to their customers.

I've been shamed by family and friends for being a vet. I thought about suicide everyday for years. I'm a purple heart disabled vet that finally understands what life is about. I'm so thankful to have served.

I know that I am commenting on this for the first time many years after this reaction, but you didnt realize it was going to be this... I listened to this song for a coupler of years BEFORE I watched the video, I love this song and as an Army vet I bawled this first time I saw the video, when the gentleman in the suit says "You know me, you saved my life brother!" and then he says it's ok and crys while he wipes that mans tears away and helps him up makes me lose it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

I am a submarine vet from the 70's and have been spit on and called a baby killer and every time I hear this song it makes me cry, and I was one of the lucky ones
My Bro enlisted after 9/11 at 32 years of age. He fought on foreign soil; he was shot, run-over, and has floating bones in his back and shrapnel in his back, arms, face.... The VA spits in his face at 40% disability. His lower back and nerves are basically non-functioning. From the waist down his left leg is completely numb and doesn't always know when he needs to "express himself". He still walks but his end game is being a paraplegic AND he is 51!!! He thanks God everyday for another day lived and he views everyday as AN OPPORTUNITY NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Praise God he came home alive when so many other didn't.
I give clothes and food as much as possible. I have a pick up at my house this Monday and asked everyone at work to donate what they can and I'll add it to what I am giving. Do what you can people.

Just the first 30 seconds of this song makes me cry as I have had 2 brothers take their own lives in the last 3 years and 1 who lost his wife and daughter in a failed marriage. I'm so happy people are now appreciating our vets. I remember when my father came back from Vietnam, people were calling him a baby killer and being spit at. I know he had to have had PTSD. But it wasn't known back then. He died less then a year after he came home.

This hurts. Two tours in Afghanistan. I remember my first fourth of July home. The fireworks went off and that's all I remembered. It was dark out and as soon as I heard the pops, I was back in that desert telling everyone to get down. Shooting my pistol towards the sounds. I shot at my two cousins. It took my grandpa, my uncle and my great uncle who all served, to bring me back to reality. It caused my daughter's to be scared of me. It caused my family to be a lot more cautious around me. It hurt me. It hurt my wife because she didn't know how to help me. Thankfully that was 8 years ago, I was able to get the care I needed. And we've been good ever since. But for so many they never get the care they deserve. I appreciate you bringing attention to this.

Excellent work brother! I am in the military and this gives me a range of emotions from anger to sadness. Reacclimating is tough especially for some that have experienced some rough stuff but we've come a long way in helping those retiring/discharged to acclimate a bit better.
I love your review. I served 17 years. Medically retired. I have some PTSD. Not like this. The sad part of this is it is worse now. Many ultra liberals even protested and interrupted our funerals. We never saw such horrible treatment of vets since Vietnam. This one thing. The issues with the VA and government and public lead almost unharmonious support to elect and likely re-elect Trump. As bad as Trump is nearly all vets support him. My Son is a PTSD vet living on the streets. I can't get him to come home. he served 3 years only. Thanks for your kind words. US Navy Veteran here. I have been homeless, I have been at the end of my rope, I have looked at the high density metal diet in the past. Im glad I met my wife and I no long have those worries - she is my drive to never be homeless again to never be at the end of a rope, and to never stare at the one time lead diet ever again.
I'm sure as hell no hero - but I sure as fuck served with a few.

No words can describe what these Veterans have you experienced through their eyes, it's one thing to hear about it, but it's a completely different world to experience it. I remember all the stories that my grandfather told me that he experienced during the Korean War as an Army Ranger. Despite the stories he has told me, all I can do is Imagine.
