He had a rough childhood in some respects. He wanted to write a song about it, as a way to process his emotions, but at the same time, he felt it would be disrespectful to write a song about his friends, and the resulting song would not be a song anyone would want to listen to, so he wrote a song about a guy who lost a girl, which is a more relatable story for the audience. Try: A New Level, Revolution Is My Name, I'm Broken, Hollow, Suicide Note Part I and Part II, Yesterday Don't Mean Shit, Slaughtered and War Nerve.

I agree and seeing them live where everyone feeds off the energy of the crowd and it just keeps building and building with every minute they are playing is an amazing and addicting experience. My two favorite shows all time was Pantera in Kansas City back in the mid 90's and the Violent Femmes in Lawrence, KS during the same time period. Drastically different styles but equal in how they totally owned the crowds and made it so much more than just a "Show"... I miss those days...
I'm 53-year-old and I've been listening to rock and metal my whole life. I've seen Pantera and concert a dozen times and I've listened to this song countless, countless times. I never fail to say,....Wow. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It does tend to give you goosebumps
I'm 51 and have been on the same path - Iron Maiden, Slayer, et al... Pantera was a game changer in the early 90's and were the undisputed kings. Only saw them 3 times in concert, but it was brutal every time and I cherish them as artists and will remember them always. Those 3 screams coupled with the Dimebag guitar work always bring emotion into my heart and I can truly feel the sorrow and loss experienced in the story. RIP to the brothers taken from us too soon.

19 years ago almost to the day, I pulled a 2yo out of a mini van just after the minivan struck a tree...he was not breathing when i pulled him out, my gf at the time gave him CPR we heard make a noise for the last time ever....3 days later he passed from his injuries.....I have NEVER been the same since that day in April 2002.....RIP Mikey

Loved the reaction! Nice to see folks listen to the words. Yes, when I lost my sister to cancer I had a hard time grieving as had people to take care of. Years later I let it out. I understand his feelings. However, it gave me the strength to help my wife as she passed on a few years later. Life’s lesson may seem harsh but there is a subtle beauty to be found if your willing to see it.

My dad just passed away Aug 12 of last yr! The day after my birthday! I seen them put him in the ambulance and he wasn't happy I called 911. That was the last time I talked to him! He was my best friend! Sorry I'm in tears writing this! Got the call the next morning that they can't revive him and my heart died ever since that day! Knowing he was mad that I called 911 to come get him and never seen him again!

I have definitely hit a dark spot with death. I first seen someone die when I was 5. When I was 8 years old I lost 9 maybe even more people in 3 months, all close family and friends. Lost multiple friends and a little brother. I’ve been through it. It never gets better, you just learn to deal in my case. You just have to make what you can with your time hear and make sure what and who you leave behind truly reflects you in the best way. I live everyday trying to spread love and happiness through things I do and try to instill this in my children and other children around me.
June 5, 2019. My sister was involved in a devastating car wreck. 4 children, ages 2-13 were killed, including my two nephews, aged 2 and 7... my sister and my then 5 year old niece were badly injured, and hospitalized for months afterwards. I was very close with my nephews, and I’ve found that after their passing, it’s hard for me to get close to people... maybe I’m just afraid of losing them the same way, or in general... but yes, I definitely can relate to this.
I love the passion and love you guys have for music and so you know you guys bring me out of a deep depression and it means alot to me. You will probably never read this but I hope you guys know that

Yeah I had to put a Seymour Duncan dime bucker in bridge position on a Jackson randy Rhodes v and run it into a krankenstein amp to come close to the sound. He used a lot of eq equipment to get the sound out of his guitar.
I saw their 1st show in chicago their cowboys from hell tour back in 1990. Top 5 best live shows I've ever seen. I've had a loss like that. Lost both of my parents. Unfortunately several years after they wrote this song, they lost dimebag Darrell (the lead guitarist) when a crazed "fan" broughtga gun to a show and shot & killed him on stage. Like another song says "God is great, beer is good & people are crazy". Rest in peace Darrell!
I can't tell you both enough how much I love y'all's channel Lol. A lot of the music that y'all are being introduced to is music I either grew up on or listened to when it first came out. I love seeing people who weren't really exposed to the different rock genres fall in love with the same music I would get made fun of or outcast for listening to. I'm sure y'all have already had this band suggested, I would truly be surprised if it hasn't been but I think y'all will both enjoy a band called "In This Moment" lead vocalist is female and she's a bad ass. For sure lost my little brother in aug 2002, my girlfriend in april 2018 and my son in July 2020. In between those, my uncle , who was 3 years older than me, my ex fiance committed suicide, my grandpa and a close friend. So this song has several different meanings to me. The line " when she died, I should have cried, and spared myself some pain" gets me everytime.

My life spiraled out of control when my older brother committed suicide. That old saying no one can hurt you more or faster then family was 100% true for me. For yrs after that my life spiraled darker and deeper into drugs and alcohol. It got worse as the yrs pasted by more drugs more alcohol. More i did and drank the deeper I got into depression and the angrier I got and more resentful I got about everything. Then after my wife left me because she couldn't handle it anymore after our daughter was born. I went downhill fast more of both less sleep party all night work all day. I went down so far I had a stroke at 28. Lucky for me I don't have any lasting issues from it. After I got out of the hospital I stood in the bathroom looking at myself. And I didn't like the person looking back at me. I didn't know who it was I didn't know myself anymore. Flushed all the drugs down the toilet and poured all the alcohol down the drain. My parents and my ex wife helped my quit my addictions for myself and my daughter. All of my so called friends aka people at that time in my life ran away and hid. Without my parents and my ex wife I'd probably be dead. I'm 47 now and I can honestly say I have been 100% sober for 19yrs. I can relate to this song 100% standing at his grave that day i felt empty alone scared mad I felt like a Halloween jack-o-lantern I had a face but empty inside. No guts numb to any feelings. Sorry its so long I hope you both read this and your other subs do to. If you are or know someone struggling with addiction please help them out and get them to want to get help. Life's to short and precious to family and real friends to waste a life struggling with addiction
This song is one of my favorites of Pantera. Another one would be 5 minutes alone, that's a great song if I were going to recommend one to you it would be that. :) To answer your question though, the loss of my son was definitely one of those losses. You just never recover from that and something inside you fundamentally changes afterwards. Losing my father was a difficult loss but even that was not the same as losing my son.
This is incredible. The way the vocals and the guitar battles it out in the end. All the live versions I have seen ends differently. Were they ever able to do this live or is it a studio thing?. Could be like Queen - Bohemian Raphsody. The opera part were taped for live concerts and the band left the stage and came back for the rocking ending

Yeah I had to put a Seymour Duncan dime bucker in bridge position on a Jackson randy Rhodes v and run it into a krankenstein amp to come close to the sound. He used a lot of eq equipment to get the sound out of his guitar.
I saw their 1st show in chicago their cowboys from hell tour back in 1990. Top 5 best live shows I've ever seen. And I've been going to shows since I was 6 seeing 1st Elvis Presley 1976 n I still go to shows today. So ya... they was crazy good live! Insane show. I still have the ticket stub! 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘

I've had a loss like that. Lost both of my parents. Unfortunately several years after they wrote this song, they lost dimebag Darrell (the lead guitarist) when a crazed "fan" broughtga gun to a show and shot & killed him on stage. Like another song says "God is great, beer is good & people are crazy". Rest in peace Darrell!

I can't tell you both enough how much I love y'all's channel Lol. A lot of the music that y'all are being introduced to is music I either grew up on or listened to when it first came out. I love seeing people who weren't really exposed to the different rock genres fall in love with the same music I would get made fun of or outcast for listening to.
I'm sure y'all have already had this band suggested, I would truly be surprised if it hasn't been but I think y'all will both enjoy a band called "In This Moment" lead vocalist is female and she's a bad ass. Songs I'd start off with would be "Blood", "whore", "Dirty Pretty" and "Closer" which is a cover of Nine Inch Nails.

For sure lost my little brother in aug 2002, my girlfriend in april 2018 and my son in July 2020. In between those, my uncle , who was 3 years older than me, my ex fiance committed suicide, my grandpa and a close friend. So this song has several different meanings to me. The line " when she died, I should have cried, and spared myself some pain" gets me everytime.

My life spiraled out of control when my older brother committed suicide. That old saying no one can hurt you more or faster then family was 100% true for me. For yrs after that my life spiraled darker and deeper into drugs and alcohol. It got worse as the yrs pasted by more drugs more alcohol. More i did and drank the deeper I got into depression and the angrier I got and more resentful I got about everything. Then after my wife left me because she couldn't handle it anymore after our daughter was born. I went downhill fast more of both less sleep party all night work all day. I went down so far I had a stroke at 28. Lucky for me I don't have any lasting issues from it. After I got out of the hospital I stood in the bathroom looking at myself. And I didn't like the person looking back at me. I didn't know who it was I didn't know myself anymore. Flushed all the drugs down the toilet and poured all the alcohol down the drain. My parents and my ex wife helped my quit my addictions for myself and my daughter. All of my so called friends aka people at that time in my life ran away and hid. Without my parents and my ex wife I'd probably be dead. I'm 47 now and I can honestly say I have been 100% sober for 19yrs. I can relate to this song 100% standing at his grave that day i felt empty alone scared mad I felt like a Halloween jack-o-lantern I had a face but empty inside. No guts numb to any feelings.
Sorry its so long I hope you both read this and your other subs do to. If you are or know someone struggling with addiction please help them out and get them to want to get help. Life's to short and precious to family and real friends to waste a life struggling with addiction

To answer your question though, the loss of my son was definitely one of those losses. You just never recover from that and something inside you fundamentally changes afterwards. Losing my father was a difficult loss but even that was not the same as losing my son.
This is incredible. The way the vocals and the guitar battles it out in the end. All the live versions I have seen ends differently. Were they ever able to do this live or is it a studio thing?. Could be like Queen - Bohemian Raphsody. The opera part were taped for live concerts and the band left the stage and came back for the rocking ending
