i second jannicks words. as a glassblower we dont always get to share the behind the scenes work that goes into the demonstrations we give. you shared the details in ways that most people dont get to see in the holy land of glassmaking. those men and women are the absolute benchmark we ALL hold ourselves to. And for anyone wondering, sucking in as opposed to blowing, when combined with pressing two sides together, is how you get a life buoy shape. the steel wicks the heat out and away and you cant possibly singe your lungs whatsoever. happy birthday and another since this video was shared. I appreciate you all.
As always I love what Stephanie and Oliver share - not only here but on their own channels as well. I have a few pieces of Murano glass, two of them are perfume bottles well over 100 years old, which I got for $3 at a garage sale. The seller told me her mother got them from Murano when she was young and the seller was well into her 80's. I asked her if she was sure that she wanted to sell them so low in price and she said she just wants them to go to someone who loves them and I do!
Guys, RUclips is too small for videos of such greatness!!! I do think a TV channel should buy them and air them!!! They are amazing!!! I have no words to express my gratitude for making this series!!!🤩🥰🥰🥰
It is really nice that you are pointing out all the work behind handblowed glass, thank you for that. I am a Norwegian glassblower and I had my own glasStudio-hut outside Oslo for many years. It is a magical work, but very hard and also dangerous because you will get a lot of glasspowder in you body and lungs after some years. It is wonderful to to see this Maestro in Morano. I had my glass-education in Costa-Boda in Sweden, and that is also one of the best places to learn this difficult artform. Thanks again Stephanie for this video.🫧💓💎💓🫧🔥
I would never have thought about the risks to workers' lungs but in fact it should seem like an obvious thing. However in my ignorance I only knew Venice where the art of glass working was so famous... is it the most famous place in the world where they do it or is it just my bias? I'm going to find out about Kosta Boda because having a quick look on Google they seem like beautiful products too
Glad you found this facts interesting. Glasblowing and engraving is very dangerous for the body if you don’t have the right equipment. Kosta Boda is one of many glass-fabrics/Studios in the south of Sweden, and it has been existing for several hundred years. You can find great glass art in several countries, in Scandinavia, Europe and also India, Japan and USA, Pilchuck glass-school in Seattle is very interesting ;founded by the great glass-artist Dale Chiuly. 🫧🌈🌎🌍🌏🌟
The skill and the artistry of all the people having taken part in this video is absolutely stunning. Cat has excelled to new levels of craftswomanship, with Stephanie a proud second ! 🥇🥈 it is no wonder that this precious and rather fragile material was, and still is, the envy of the world. Here is my feeble attempt to put it into words: Hot as lava‘s molten stone, blown and twisted to a cone. Ephemeral colour scheme glinting in the brightest beam. Through the artist‘s craft perfected that all light is held reflected. It‘s Venetian to the core, magical forevermore.
When Louis XIV began building Versailles, he tried to lure glass blowers to France, but apparently they began to die mysteriously. Eventually he abandoned that idea and developed his own glass making techniques, including mirror making. French mirrors quickly improved over the Venetian ones which were very small and terribly expensive. The Hall of Mirrors was the result which could not have been created with the Venetian glass of that time. I have an interesting book about Louis XIV influence on the French luxury trades. If I can find it, I will let you know the name of it. Loving the drama of the process. When I went to Venice all those years ago, I missed Murano due to time catching up with me. I feel so inspired to return! Thank you for the video! It was EPIC! Full Marks to Stephanie and Cat for a magnificent job!
I’m so glad Cat did not suck in but blew out her air 😅 What a wonderful experience for her and Stephanie and for all of us viewing. So good, thank you🥰
I think glassblowing is one of the most fascinating arts, not only to watch but to see the results! I used to have a boyfriend who is a glassblower. I loved watching him work. I still have a few of his pieces. And actually, he's responsible for my name, Jax. It's amazing the teamwork, and as George Grant mentions, the skill and artistry, needed to create these absolutely stunning pieces. Well done, Stephanie and Kat!!! 👏🏼 This was spectacular and breathtaking, and nail-biting too. 😁 Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand.
Such an exciting experience for you guys! I would definitely have chosen the same chandelier as Stephanie! Cat’s, err, Maestro’s smile was priceless!!!
What an incredible achievement, to be able to draw such beauty from sand and fire. I’m speechless when I watch these skilled craftsmen at work. What a blessing that we may enjoy the results of their labors.
I shared this video with my son who traveled to Italy during his last year of school. They went to a glass blowing factory in Venice and he brought me a beautiful blue vase with gold decorations. He said this wasn't the one they went to but it was very similar. Thanks sharing. 🙂🇨🇦
You can certaunly tell you have all been friends for a long time, so comfortable in each others company. The glass blowing is a fascinating art, I could watch for hours. I now have a different view of hand made glassware, all the hard work and knowledge handed down through the years. Cat is always happy and smiling but today definitely over the moon with joy. Amazing video, thank you 💕🇦🇺
seeing glass blowing always blows my mind (excuse the pun) it is art in action - its like watching a ballet the way the artists move and work together to make such beautiful objects! wow!!
How spectacular was this episode? From ages and ages of times passed through to today, the same general techniques have been used to create blown glass Murano masterpieces. Extraordinary.
Watching each video you think, WOW this is the best! How will they ever top this episode?! Then... BOOM it's another truly fascinating adventure! Absolutely loved. Go Cat and Stefanie! And you too Oliver :)
This episode was filmed in February 2022. Dan hadn’t started working on his own chateau yet. Stephanie took him to Venice for a big party with friends (see Chateau Diairies) because she said it was a pity that he had never been to Venice.
Apart from Cat (Steph too of course) fulfilling with such professionalism AND panache, the memories flooded back of my visit to Murano. THANK YOU yet again frien and friend 😅 ALEX XX
The glass blowing is amazing, Stephanie you and Cat are now master crafts(wo)men. Your glasses are beautiful. The process is very time consuming with great talent and patience. Thanks for bringing us along to experience it with you.
FYI- most of the glass production furnaces on Murano are closed during the hot summer months. The demonstrations for tourists are year round. Mannin 56 is my favorite shop on Murano to buy glass and many of the pieces shown are sold there.
This was worth the wait. The Murano Story, the art of the incredible and dangerous work to accomplish such art, is beyond inspiring. As always a little fun amongst our favorite people is the added bonus. ❤
There is a glass blowing studio just north of us, and during the holidays you can go and blow ornaments, which is so much fun. I’ve done lampworking, have all the equipment, it was a lot of fun creating beautiful beads. I’ve always wanted to go to Murano to watch the Masters at work. Amazing work. Thanks for taking us along with you.
This one took me back to my own visit to Murano over Christmas in 1967! My friend and I were not able to try glassblowing but I remember the process and the heat very well. On our visit, there was an exit through the gift shop that left me short on rent money for three months.
The glass blowing was incredible and that chandelier was amazing, Happy birthday kat so nice to see you all together also Dan the man, nice trip thank you for taking us along 💕🌼🤗
Beautiful video I must say. Just one thing: Venetians DID have gardens, they still do. There are several, in fact about 500 of them. Only they are not so easy to spot. Some can be seen from the Grand Canal, some are hidden behind walls, some are quite large, like the Eden garden on the Giudecca. After being taken care of in the late 19th cent. by British garden lovers, Frederick and Caroline Eden, sister of the famous gardener Gertrude Jekyll, the garden passed to the Greek monarchy and in 1979 it was acquired by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser’s idea was to leave the garden to its wild growth, but it is well looked after. Unfortunately is not open to the public. There are the public gardens close to St Mark's in the direction of the Harry's Bar. There are very large gardens, even with vineyards and orchards behind the walls of some convents, like the one connected to the Church of the Scalzi, or the large garden built by Mariano Fortuny at the Giudecca and of course the wonderful parks on San Servolo island, and the park on San Giorgio island, where there is even a theatre. So, perhaps, next time you go to Venice, you could set on a garden tour of the town.
This was the most enjoyable vlog. So much activity between friends, and the Murano masters. In 2018, whilst I was in Venice, taxi booked for Murano the next morning with my American friend - we were hit by a storm. Boats cancelled and no travel across the islands. And so I missed my trip. It feels like I was there. Cat is wonderful and smart. Stephanie is a creative through and through. Best vlog. I truly enjoyed it. Thank You👌🏾
Just superb! Fabulous showcasing the incredible talent and skill of these artisans. Cat is a delight... I look forward to following her future career as Murano glass craftswoman extraordinaire! 🤩
Welcome to Italy 😊 the nation of manufacturing excellence that makes it famous and appreciated all over the world thanks to materials and attention to detail of the highest level! A hug to everyone from the Italian peninsula (Calabria region)! Ciao!
Don't forget Gardener Dan's new adventure "Escape To Rural France" where he single-handedly is restoring a 19th Century chateau ruin that housed children during the Nazi occupation of France. It is incredible!
My husband and I were able to go to Murano when we traveled to Venice! We bought a large Pelican with a fish inside the glass. Heavy!!!! It was beautiful 😍 When we made a big move, it came with the rest of our donated items to our church. Can't cling to material things .
This was so stupendous, amazingly mind blowing that I can't thank you all enough for sharing your glass blowing trip to Murano with all of us viewers!❤❤❤❤😊
I was so looking forward to seeing your finished glasses? Loved watching you working with the glass. Lovely to see our Dan, the man who can, having a well earned break with you all. xxx
nice job! The explanations were wonderful ... and oh! that piece in the museum with those delicate teal colored handles!! so lovely! I wanted to see the final glasses again 😢. Please , pretty please? Apart from that, another triumph of storytelling. I have not been able to travel much this year so I am really grateful for the chance to live vicariously through your travels. Thank you!
Thanks for another wonderful video Ollie and Steph. It was lovely to see Kat and she is amazing at glass blowing. It was also lovely to see Philip and Dan even if it was just briefly. I can't wait for the next one. X
I went on one of the tourist trap demonstrations and really enjoyed it. This one is obviously a superior experience. Oh well, add this to the list of reasons to go back to Venice! Thanks friends! 🌎

I'm so impressed with all the team work and hard work it takes to do the glass blowing. Such beauty.
This is the epitome of team work for the glass blowers and the making of this video!
This was so fun. Thank you for taking us along on Cats birthday gift. What a physical job glass blowing is. New use for the bread oven 😂
Well, I have a greater appreciation and respect for Murano Glass and the craftsmen who create each and every glassblown piece of art.
I think glassblowing is one of the most fascinating arts, not only to watch but to see the results!

Hello from PEI Canada. So much work is in glass blowing. Great to see Dan and Kat
What an incredible experience. So nice to see Cat again. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
How spectacular was this episode? From ages and ages of times passed through to today, the same general techniques have been used to create blown glass Murano masterpieces. Extraordinary.
I did a course of glass bead making, it’s like trying to keep honey on the end of a stick, I loved watching you do this.
Watching each video you think, WOW this is the best! How will they ever top this episode?! Then... BOOM it's another truly fascinating adventure! Absolutely loved. Go Cat and Stefanie! And you too Oliver :)
Great job, ladies. I must say you appreciate the hard work that goes in each piece and understand the prices. ❤
Great to see Dan in Venice. He works so hard doing a vlog everyday its good to see him taking a break.
Did he mention he was going to Venice and isn't it Cat he cheated with?
This episode was filmed in February 2022. Dan hadn’t started working on his own chateau yet. Stephanie took him to Venice for a big party with friends (see Chateau Diairies) because she said it was a pity that he had never been to Venice.
Cat's smile almost has enough wattage to heat one of those furnaces. 😂❤
Glass is fascinating I got to work In a glass making studio for a short time before the pandemic. It was so much fun to watch.
Apart from Cat (Steph too of course) fulfilling with such professionalism AND panache, the memories flooded back of my visit to Murano. THANK YOU yet again frien and friend 😅 ALEX XX
That was enjoyable to watch. Such Craftsmanship I have a Murano pendant a friend bought for me from over there and I treasure it Dearly ❤
wow! thanks for showing us the process in glass art; incredible skills they have.👍🏽
I loved this episode!! It was absolutely fascinating watching the glass blowing and Cat's reaction to it all was delightful.💖
This was fun! I can’t believe that when they are in production they produce a gorgeous glass like these every 50 seconds! INCREDIBLE…all of it!

we cherish our two Murano chandeliers. Thank you for sharing

It is incredible!
My husband and I were able to go to Murano when we traveled to Venice! We bought a large Pelican with a fish inside the glass. Heavy!!!! It was beautiful 😍

You guys really know the meaning of 'living your best life' and don't let anyone give you any shit about it!! Happy Birthday Cat! (even tho this was recorded long ago) 💖🦊
also many of us arent swanky and using graphite pillows. thats a very new thing in glassmaking. many of us use the older technique of folded newspaper pads that are soaked with water. the wetness and charred paper create a steam barrier that keeps our hands safe and also has a polishing effect on the surface of the glass.
Yes please. A Murano chandelier would be nice❤
I watched glass blowing when I was in Venice and was mesmerised, it takes such talent. Amazing to see a lump of scorching molten glass turned into such a delicate piece. Loving this Chanel so much 😍👏🏼👏🏼🐨

Another destination on my bucket list! Thanks - it was mesmerizing and funny and fascinating!
Santo Cielo, that looks amazing! Knowing that my mother went and actually got to make CHAMPAGNE glasses and that she had her own desing for them.... I loved this video so much. I actually worked a tiny bit with glass as a teenager at a special school I atteded back then. I LOVE glass! Always have always will.
Stéphanie and Kat were very brave . Wonderful vlog . Thank you ❤

What a glorious day! That is on my bucket list but sadly I don’t see it happening for me. I’m glad Cat was able to fulfill her dream! ❤🎉
Wow!! That was amazing!! Great job girls!! What a great experience, and I agree with you is quite frightening!
Ah, thank you for the memories! I had the good fortune to work (briefly) with Paul Ysart. He was of Catalan descent, but he and his brothers started Vasart in Scotland, specialising in double-dipped glass. He later became the glass-master of Caithness Glass in Wick in Caithness. He specialised in millifiori, in paperweights and perfume bottles. Google him!
its been a long time since ive blown glass. i forgot what joy it gives me and others. you guys did great!
Sooo interesting....as a ceramic artist I did a few seminars in Italy (Faenza/Imola)...reminds me a lot of those exciting times.🎉
I wanted to see the final glasses again 😢. Please , pretty please? Apart from that, another triumph of storytelling. I have not been able to travel much this year so I am really grateful for the chance to live vicariously through your travels. Thank you!

How wonderful to see this. So much goes into making these beautiful items. Loved seeing you both making a glass, very special.
So fun! Loved this adventure.
Wow wow pure joy between Stephanie and cat wonderful ❤❤❤
I am fond of artistic glass works
I went on one of the tourist trap demonstrations and really enjoyed it. This one is obviously a superior experience. Oh well, add this to the list of reasons to go back to Venice! Thanks friends! 🌎
