  • Steph and Ollie have a truly surreal experience visiting the Dalí Theatre-Museum. It's a fascinating insight into the world's most famous surrealist artist and his wife Gala.
To visit this incredible place visit:
    www.salvador-dali.org/en/muse...
We'd also recommend visiting his house in nearby Porlligat

Oh nostalgia, I have been to Collioure several times ( it is not far from my village) and stayed at that same hotel overlooking the gorgeous town and harbour. Many famous artists including Matisse and Derain lived and painted here and Fauvism was created here. There are brass “picture frames’ around the town which you can look through, framing the views which they painted. It is sublime.
Also Cadaques which (when I was there!) was a little fishing village where I had a stroll around the narrow cliff road and a superb seafood paella. Not been to Figueres but your vlog inspires me to get there!🇦🇺🌹

That was bizarre and amazing. My whimsical reference to Dali was his photo in the Jump Book! He was mid air at an easel AND cats were mid air in a deluge of water!! The notes said the cats and water had to be thrown several times until he was happy with the photo results. What cats must endure for arts sake!

Dali initial scene of the nightmare dream, in Hitchcock spell bound, was 20 min., which was edited to about 3 minutes. Dali was very angry to the extend that he refused to comment on the film except once said “they cut the best parts of it”.
But Dali great contribution to the cinema was earlier than that. In the thirties Dali closest friends were the great film director Bunuel and poet Lorka. With Bunuel they wrote and directed two surrealistic films, Un Chein Andalou and L’Age d’Or. The first one is considered the start of the surrealism in cinema.
I am not a great admirer of Dali, apart from his early works when he was an inspiring genius. Later his art became bizarre and he became nasty, pompous, arrogant, exhibitionist, and very materialistic. He would dine in an expensive restaurant, pay by cheque and do some sketch at the back and sign it, knowing very well that the owner is not going to cash the cheque. So many stories like this about his greed and money seeking.
I am great admirer of Bunuel works. I have in my library all his films and interviews. In one interview he talked about his relationship with Dali and how nasty he was to him and to Lorka, and mostly how he became so apologetic to Franco(and that raised huge anger among artists and writers like Picasso, Miro, Orwell..).
I am not surprised, then,of the idea of making you emptying your pockets of all euros to see a little bit extra. That is typical of Dali.
