Thanks for that. While bike riding, a baby ran in front of me. There is were two in the street, and could not get out because the curb was too high. The mother be was frantic. We stopped and picked them up and put them over the curb, but not before the wife had a quick look and pet. They are sooo soft. They ran over to mom and once again, all was right with the world.
cool video. I've had a pair that have nested in my garden for years. this year they chose my gravel driveway. I put up cones to let visitors know to stay away.
They are really cute birds. I work at a golf course and every morning they'd be running around one spot of the parking lot. I knew nothing about the broken wing act thing until i looked it up because she used it on me and I thought she was really hurt. An adult and the first babies i've ever seen in the wild. 2 of them,. They hung around for about 10 days and I haven't seen them since 🥹hopefully back next spring.
they remind me of roadrunners and the way they squack and fluff their wings out to distract you hilarious. It's like every schoolyard field here in Ontario has a killdeer family running the show.
I've been watching a mama and her nest for weeks in an area I do Landscaping in. She let's us get a meter or so close before getting defensive. So cute.
I don't think so. As far I as know the newborns can walk the day they are born and the parents take them to Food but they have to feed themselves. I'm no expert, but have googled them as they lay their eggs in middle of my driveway almost every year. archive.knoxnews.com/entertainment/columnists/marcia-davis/marcia-davis-precocious-killdeer-chicks-quick-to-flee-the-nest-ep-360494422-356913311.html
The parents work together, the babies already have feathers when they are born, and the most famous one, the parents pretend to be hurt to lure predators from the nest!

What
@@K.B.Williams those birds play being hurt/having broken wing in order to get you away from their nest.
Thicc isn’t a word I’d use to describe killdeer but here’s a cookie 🍪🍪
How long does it take for the eggs to hatch from when she lays them??
It takes 28 days
I'm afraid for them wondering if there are cats around
She’ll just have to act her way out, literally
very sweet video. wonder if how long it took for the third egg to hatch :)
Rasika Mahabal right after the video ended, ran out of storage space :(
So they don't feed them?🤷

What a pain in life.
So unprotected nest. How do they survive?
