  • We certainly have our share of shorebirds that migrate through the Upper Midwest but few species that actually nest here. We do have one species of plover however that can be found in our area in abundance and that is the Killdeer.
This video highlights a nest here in Houston County that I was able to witness the hatching of four, cute little Killdeer chicks that hatched on June 21, 2020.
The chicks hatch fully developed and are able to stand and walk within minutes. They can be quite a handful for the parents that must help to find them food shortly after hatching.
    Enjoy!

It's funny watching the babies run and tumble head over heals.

We have a family at our place in SE Georgia. Hatched a few days ago. It's been fun watching them from our above ground pool. They don't know we are there lol... We do have lots of gravel and they love the puddles. We are making some puddles for them.

The baby's coloring is exactly like the adult's. Wonderful creatures!

I love this!!! I've been watching a nest for about 30 days, and this am early, in the rain, between fireworks on the 4th of July, they started hatching. I've seen 3 Chicks of the 4 eggs so far.

I moved from rural Kansas to urban Ohio and the biggest part of maintaining my adjustment was the fact that the killdeer nest up here on rooftops.
Sure I would survive without it but it was a tiny comfort hearing their calls at sunset

Thank you for the happy moments with these delightful killdeer and their chicks!
I was enjoying the faint sounds of the countryside at the beginning of the chicks footage and then the guitar chimed in. 🎶
I love guitar music. But I also love the quiet sounds of nature … especially when new life begins! I may be in the minority, and videographically ignorant, but I will still respectfully suggest that you don’t need music in the background of videos highlighting nature.

We have one in our driveway right now. Luckily we have two driveways so I have blockade and the one she’s nesting in. Very interesting little birds.

Are they territorial? I have 2 pairs and they've been at each other. Both seem to have chicks.

I don't know for sure but wouldn't be surprised. Most bird species I have encountered are territorial.

There was a lot of squawking at my killdeer nest the other day, and it look like a fight between a few different birds, but I couldn’t tell if it was a killdeer bird or what. I’ve only seen one killdeer bird out there, so I’m not sure what was going on.
