    While on a site survey at an undisclosed location, my sister found a family of killdeer. The parents were watching over three freshly hatched chicks. My sister also had a camera on her. So she filmed them, and I turned it into a video. Enjoy.

    I had a Momma Killdeer build a nest not far from my house on my property just out in the open field. She was a great Momma and she had two babies that did great also. They were so cute to watch grow and yes, Momma always stayed close by. They had a nest in same spot for three yrs, but haven't seen her in over a year now, hope she comes back or one of the babies come back to nest there again. Loved watching them!! ❤❤❤

    We just built a home, and even though the backyard is hydroseeded, it is rough and a little gravel remains. I have a momma killdeer nesting there, not 12 feet from our patio. She doesn't seem threatened by our presence, just sits steadfastly on her next. She "talks" to my husband every time he goes out the patio door (but not me, lol.). I wish this video would capture their call. Their colors and markings are magnificent, and I can't wait to see the chicks hatch!

    We have an abundance of these guys in Central Montana! I would find them all over! As a kid, I thought of them as my friends and would often go out and sit in the prairie and watch them and pretend to have a conversation with them. The males - I'm presuming - often didn't like me around at first but over time they stopped caring and would leave me alone. These birds have a special place in my heart!

    They love nesting in asparagus fields! It was so funny to watch the grown-ups antics and when the babies hatched, they were like little grayish brown cotton balls running around! My favorite of all time!😊

    Also, the can breed 3-4x season. And the parents have amazing acting skills: the do this awkward dance, pretending to have an injured wing when people or predators get too close to the eggs-they lay on the ground without a nest-or the chicks.

    A family of these came through my property a few weeks ago here in the Heart of Dixie, and I had no idea what they were at the time. I took some crappy iPhone video, but it wasn't until last week that I knew what they were. Thanks to the Merlin app capturing the sound of them. There were about 6 babies, and the parents were leading them from East to West on my property. I just saw one of the parents again. A very large and most beautiful bird. I must buy a nice camera with a zoom lense. I put out feeders 2 years ago, and I have captured many not so great pics with my phone. The Killdeer is, by far, the most beautiful of them all.

    Ive got a killdeer nesting right next the the place i work at. She has four eggs, and she's super cute. I check on her daily, and put up a traffic cone nearby so that no one runs them over with the lawn mower. I hope they all do well and i can't wait to see the babies hatched

    A mama Killdeer was in a parking lot by my gym. I slowed down so she could fly away. Next thing I know I see these little things running around in the parking lot and realized they were babies. Omg so cute !!!! I got scared because I was pretty sure I drove over them. Nope, saw them run up in the grass. Whew

    They are adorable. I live next to railroad tracks so naturally they nest in the crushed rock, but that squeaky fanbelt sound they make is pretty much 24/7. And they also seem lost and panicked constantly like thats their normal thing. Funny birds

    I live in Maryland just outside of Baltimore, and it's a very developed/urban area. These birds are common here, and I love their distinctive calls. I worked at warehouse with a huge parking lot, and I'd often see them running on foot across the empty part.
    That parking lot attracts a lot of ducks/geese too because it's built over top of a natural body of water.
    The entire parking lot is suspended, and it's strange. Heavy vehicles can't enter it because of this.
    I once saw a mother goose and her chicks running around when it was super busy. All but 2 of the chicks fell into a storm drain, and the mother and the other 2 became frantic.
    I tried to save them, and a woman was trying to help me. She didn't mean to, but she made them run into the drive-lane and the mother & chicks got run over.
    It was horrifying and I cussed at the lady because I was so upset feeling she had done it.
    The mother survived, and the fire dept rescued the remaining gooselings from the drain. Semi-happy ending.

    Lovely film! Very informative. The chicks are totally adorable!! Just one concern, which is that there are so many different "aural stimuli" going on at the same time it's confusing. It'd be easier to understand if there were no music; plus we'd really get to hear the birds. Am I the only one who feels this way? Otherwise, an excellent film - as always!!! Thank you!

  • @snmm1029
    @snmm1029 11 месяцев назад

    Is it a Killdeer? Killdeer make their nests on gravel and are known to try to distract a perceived predator away from the nest. Usually, they will fly/move away from the nest and act injured in order to draw the threat away from the nest and protect the eggs. The only white I see on the bird here tho is along the wings,very similar to a mockingbird.

    What would make this video much better is less talking & more listening to what the bird sounds like.

  • @berealsupportive2744
    @berealsupportive2744 Месяц назад +2

    Please don't talk loud throughout the entire video. It ruins the experience. This is my first time hearing of this bird after just seeing one on another video. I chose to see yours to watch the walking and talking. You're voice and music should be cleaner and much lower so the birds are chirping louder to hear them. You also should do long pauses so we can enjoy the nature. Otherwise it's your show which is not what we wanna see. We wanna see the animals. :) The music takes away the observance of the natural nature scene. I hope this helps you do better in the future uploads.
