    Just FYI for anyone reading this. The vintage 70s telecaster has 1 meg pots for both neck and bridge pickup. The new 70s telecaster has 1 meg pots on the neck only while the bridge has 250k pots. This explains why the neck comparisons sound the same but bridges differ and why the vintage guitar sounds brighter.
    This could almost be a video about 250k vs 1 meg pots in a telecaster custom

    Awesome video! Such an underated guitar. The vintage bridge seemed much pokier. I couldn't afford the American original so I got a vintera 70s and upgraded to cunife neck with new pot. I love the slim C neck so your video makes me think I got pretty close to the vintage! Great comparison thank you 👍

      Thank you for your Feedback! The Bridge on the Vintage is a compensated Brass which was installed 2 years ago. It didn't change the sound very much as ist was already pretty bright with the original Steel Bridge. However, the Intonation improved a lot. Upgrading a MIM is definitely an option, I noticed that sellers are asking 200-300€ more for 2nd hand Originals than 1-2 years ago.

    Great Vid. A 73' Custom (64 bridge PUP and bridge wiring installed by a previous owner) has been my #1 since 1984, and I've owned a '76 and two 78's. It's true that vintage WRHBs vary as widely as early PAF's but the Vintera '72 with it's "wrong" neck WRHB sounds most like the 70's versions (including yours) regardless of amps in every vid of the Vintera, AM Original and AV II I've watched. . I wonder what the new CuNiFe WRHB's would sound like w/ 1M pots like the originals. My 73 has a 1.75" thick body and a thin, almost very soft V neck as ooposed to the" 70's U" or "C" of the reissues.

      Hi, thanks for sharing! I toyed with the idea of installing Cunifes in ma MIJ Jazzmaster, but picked Lollars JMs instead. The AM Original has been my favourite guitar since I got it. So much so that I may look out for a Deluxe style 70s Tele to get a Bridge WRHB as well🙂

    Hi Paul. This is a really nice video. I’ve heard and read a lot about the pot spec since buying the AO 70s Tele Custom in Mocha finish. I’ve upgraded to compensated brass saddles and Kluson locking tuners. However, I’m also considering changing the pots as I feel like they have a linear taper design instead of the audio taper I prefer from my other guitars (Fender, Gibson, Duesenberg). Are you able to tell me definitively what the pot spec is for the tone and volume controls in these newer AO guitars in terms of 250, 500 or 1meg for each, and also how that compares with your ‘75? Many thanks in advance 🤘

      I think the 70's were made w/ 1M linear taper pots.

    I do own 4 telecasters and 5 Stratocasters, I really can careless which one is better than the others, I am more concerned that each have a slightly different character and different sound. Most important I do try hard to set them all up to my own preference.

    My 75 tele custom has a lead jack like a les paul and a maple fretboard.

    • @PaulReno
      @PaulReno  Месяц назад +1

      Hi! Do you know if that has been retrofitted, or is it original?

    • @mikerobo2112

      @@PaulReno No,the jack is original. Mine had no pickgaurd or electronics when i got it. It also had a gap between pickups for another humbucker that someone was going to fit but im not putting that in.They also sprayed it 4 different colours so i had yo take it back to original natural timber and poly it. Its been a real pain but it is original tuners,neckplate. It was just the body and neck when i got it. Have got aluminium,titanim coated ,compensated bridge saddles and am putting all original bits and pieces required except pickups wich are fender stamped alnico wide(fake apparently) range and bridge pickup out of fender squire vintage modified custom 75. Tone is the goal. So the pickups are gb company korea. Its been a pain in the ass but a luthier and i are going to make it a players guitar,not a showpony. Cheers for asking. Wish me luck.

    I think I slightly prefer the actual 70's Tele. Nearly identical in tone, really, except for what I think is a slight edge in clarity/articulation. I own the American Original version, and while I like the idea of a humbucker in the neck position, ultimately I'm just not that crazy about the CuNiFe pups. Evidently, rare materials don't necessarily lead to superior tone.

    • @PaulReno

      Hi Zuri, I can‘t really settle on which one I prefer. On my regular demos I quite often pull out the American Original. I only recently picked the vintage one for an upcoming Short where I wanted the extended HiEnd. It‘s funny that it actually sounds more modern to me than the AO. Do you know how much your AO weighs?

    • @zuriwagner5566
      @zuriwagner5566 Год назад

      @@PaulReno Weighs just under 8 lbs. I think my issue with the CuNIFe pup may just be that I've only owned Fenders with single coils in the past. The HB pups I've owned have all been on Gibsons, and I think when I play HBs my ears just expect to hear something like a 490 or '57 Classic, etc.
