MINI is a brand like any other car and it does not mean SMALL and because MINI in English means small does not mean MINI as a brand have to produce small cars period . By the way Mini Countryman has now from Julie 2019 306 HP and accelerates 5,1 to 62 miles/hour
He is completely missjudging the car. The car is not a Cooper, is a small SUV Countryman. So judge it as it is. And the fact that the brand is Mini it doesn't mean anymore that it has to be mini, it just a "new" brand with a lot of models like any other brand. Come on man is common sense. If you like it or not is just personal taste. Period.
So many people slagging this off. I'm on my 7th MINI since they were made by BMW. I've owned an F56 S since 2014 & it's been a great car. I also own a 2014 JCW Coupe that has been outstanding & I don't plan on selling it - ever. The F56 is going to be replaced in July for a Countryman Cooper S. Maybe it's me, but I have never regretted owning any of them. My first Mini was a 1959 & I'm sure if Sir Alec was alive today he would have applauded the fact that his 'baby' was still evolving to suit what the market wants. Okay this isn't a Mini, but none of the new generation are. MINI is a brand not a stuck in the past economy car to replace the 3 wheelers of its day & this is the 21st century..... isn't it?
It's unfortunate he has such a rigid idea about what a Mini can be. It keeps him from appreciating the JCW Countryman for what it is. After all, what a Mini was is nearly extinct before BMW pumped cash and expertise into it. (Does he object to Bentley and Jaguar making sport utilities too?) I think BMW has done a good job helping Mini evolve in the changing global market. This is truly a unique vehicle. It is, after all, less than two inches longer than a Golf! It's far more commodious, and while the Golf R has substantially more power and weighs less, at least you can get a Countryman with a sunroof. And very few all wheel drive activity vehicle are available with a manual transmission. You might be able to get one with the F-Pace Jag, but you can't with the Porsche. Like it or not, sales of sedans and genuine two door coupes are shrinking globally. I'm not saying I like it. I just accept it. This care has genuine character, something that is missing from most vehicles of this class.
I thought he was on a one way street the way he was driving, but it's obvious now that he really doesn't know how to drive that car. At 6' 4" I love mine, and it handles curves way better than that, the inside feels like a spaceship, and after 2 years, it's still a cool car to drive.
Why are you comparing it with other Minis? Surely that's just like comparing a Toyota RAV 4 to a GT86 or an Alfa Romeo Guilia to a Stelvio? Mini themselves say it's a mid sized SUV aimed at the likes of the Qashqai and the RAV 4. Admittedly, it is still too bloody expensive.
Not a good car....... JCW IS SIMPLY THE BEST! one of the funniest I've ever driven in my life, AND I'M SORRY BUT THIS GENTLEMAN DOESN'T UNDRESTAND ANYTHING ABOUT THE MINI'S WORLD....... I RACCOMEND THAT YOU CHANGE JOB........
I own an f55 s and love it. I also had the privilege to test the countryman hybrid model and I would choose that over the jcw. I clocked 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds, no joke that car was insane with the torque from the electric motor. If your out looking for a jcw try the phev version too. Yeah no bangs or pops but that didn't matter it's amazing.
@anglovirtual i own one and you need too take all the driving aids of or it just boost cuts on every corner the adaptive steering is terrible its going back.
Orphanmaker to be fair I agree with that. I'd rather shoot my self in the head than drive anything mini produced. utterly shite cars. unless you work in the automotive industry. you have no idea how bad minis are quality wise. dreadful things.
The styling is awful inside and out. The 11'-16' Countryman has so much more character and still feels like a MINI. And it weighs about 400lbs less than the new ones. MINI has a reputation of making nice cars and then the "man" gets to it and ruins it.
They've fattened the brand up to it's max because buyers keep upgrading. It's silly, the 'Mini' isn't cool anymore. I briefly thought a Fiat 500 was a Bentley Bentayga the other day. Stop listening to consumers so much and force us to buy things we can complain about again.
Owner of an F56 Cooper S hatch here. The hatch comes in sub 1200kgs, how BMW managed to make the Countryman 400kgs heavier I'm not sure. If they a building an SUV version give it something unique, don't just make it the ugly and fat sister of the Cooper S, which is what they did.
Love to brutal honesty here. Have to agree I had the old Countryman and this thing is huge in comparison. That engine is stretched in it , it doesn't honour the JCW badge it's wearing.

stop comparing to a mini hatch, put it up against other small suv cars! then see how it compares!

Get over it. It’s a MINI SUV not a sports hatch.

That road is beautifull. Car is very cool too.
MINI is a brand it does not mean small l!!! You miss the point .

Robert Campbell
This guy is just hating on BMW and Mini in general and admires Mercedes an VW
Dr. Nedim he is - simple Speakin' - an Idiot with prejudice!
Should find a different job really.

Terrible review. The countryman looks like no other. Sounds like a Mini, love it.

WOW! Gotta disagree . I think it looks awesome and is very fast
@anglovirtual i own one and you need too take all the driving aids of or it just boost cuts on

Tried watching the video to see if anything could actually justify this car being 30 grand. Aaaaaaaand no.
Orphanmaker exactly. completely agree. 30 grand? I'll have an RS focus thank you.
Different cars for different people...
Kaisuke971 lol no.
Yes, the Countryman and the Focus are not in the same segment at all and they don't target the same customers.
Orphanmaker to be fair I agree with that. I'd rather shoot my self in the head than drive anything mini produced. utterly shite cars. unless you work in the automotive industry. you have no idea how bad minis are quality wise. dreadful things.
Awful reviewer, boring 👎 Love the countryman and very fun to drive!!!
As if the countryman didnt look busy enough in the first place
Great to have a car review where it's not all "this is amazing, buy it immediately"!
Would have like to have watched this one. I have a gen 1 Countryman and looking to change.
love your absolute honesty Steve, a rare thing for car journalists/youtubers these days! Keep up the good work man 👌
Brilliant despite what you say i like it, great review Cheers
Listen to what?! 1:55
Stop listening to journalists... this one is definitely the most boring guy I've ever watched car revewing ... and I'm not even a mini guy
Woww beautiful car and so beautiful view
guys can you give review of ff91
It’s 306 BHP not 220 BHP
This review was made in 2017 and the engine spec then was a 228bhp model
How is it the "most powerful mini" It has the same power as the JCW hatch.
what they've done to the the name and original concept is vandalization in a grand scale
Gerald Holley Why do you think they brand it MINI & not Mini? It’s about capturing the spirit of the original & keeping it modern.
Mini now looks as the "Oh not so fashionable anymore" brand out of BMW pieces.
Golf R everyday of the week over this and I own a 5 door Cooper S with the Works pack.
This needed 300bhp to even be remotely tempting.
tune it
Most potent Mini there has ever been? Must have forgot about the Mini Cooper JCW GP. No rear seats and what like 260hp.
i didnt hear 1 pop or bang
emilio blanco Maybe it wasn't in sport mode
Why automatic though
What a goon.

E90 335i weighs nearly the same
Steve Sutcliffe is finally back!!!
Golf R
YESSS its Steve Sutcliffe!!!
Come on, I expected more of you
this car looks outdated already. lol. they should have made more drastic, innovative changes in the design.
The way he sighs says it all...
Biggy :D
You can't even call that a Mini anymore. It's lost the whole identity being this massive and expensive imho
Just get the cooper s
gamer 5054731949 and mod it yourself if you really need more power
They've fattened the brand up to it's max because buyers keep upgrading. It's silly, the 'Mini' isn't cool anymore.
I briefly thought a Fiat 500 was a Bentley Bentayga the other day. Stop listening to consumers so much and force us to buy things we can complain about again.
ImHereToAnnoyYou Very subjective statement . I think it's Awesome!!!
Thank you.
Should this not be called the midi?

Greaaaat job ..... about car .... the worst Mini in modern dayz UGLY!
I'm sure they're really good cars but they made them ugly as fuck!
Love to brutal honesty here. Have to agree I had the old Countryman and this thing is huge in comparison. That engine is stretched in it , it doesn't honour the JCW badge it's wearing.
what a horrible looking car
#MiniIsDEAD 😢
Heavy, clumsy, ugly. Good job, BMW!
Its ugly and too expensive. Nope, pass.
Who in their right mind would buy it?
Louis Gordon who in their right mind wouldn't buy it
I definitely would. That's why i'm about to order one!
I’ve bought one too
Hideous ugly car.
