HID Flashlights have around 6500 lumens to 9000 lumens and can get very large to carry!!! so this surefire sounds like the better choice because less chance for a meltdown lol :)))
In that small sized head, I highly doubt Surefire has mastered LED heat dissipation for the 5000 lumens to stay constant on for more than few minutes before it's forced to drop in output. If the light can stay at 5000 lumens for at least half hour, I'd call it impressive, but like other Surefire high output lights, high lumen ratings drop down fast because of heat build up.
I have some of the Surefire copycat flashlights, they are called Ultrafire. Only a fraction of the cost & really good quality but not as good as Surefire.
I've also got an Ultrafire light (not in the financial league to afford Surefire) - cost me only $13 delivered to my door ex China. I'm very pleased with it.
A couple of nights ago I affixed my Ultrafire E17 2000-lumen light to the scope on my CZ 452 ZKM with a couple of ranger bands and tested its suitability as a spotlight for night hunting. Great throw, was able to see the cross-hairs against trees at a decent distance even on low setting - it'd certainly do for spotlighting rabbits and possums. Definitely got to get a bracket to permanently and properly mount one to the rifle.
2000-lumen is how it came - bought it mainly as my camping light. Not sure what the brightness levels are on medium and low, but they both seem quite adequate for a spotlight - the throw is the most important aspect for that role. My previous (even cheaper) light is just as bright as the "medium" setting on the Ultrafire but its throw is appalling - you're doing well to find the ground in front of you, let alone something halfway up a tree.
Actually there products now compete with every other company, they cost slightly more but are built in usa and are of much better quality. Ive seen Surefires out shine lights that are rated higher than them.
AND visa versa as well.I sell 5 other brands of Flashlights as well as the over priced Surefires, witch by the way sell like shit because the other ones are just as good and much less expensive. We are going to tell Surefire where to go as I type! I work at a large Gun Store. But thanks for your input.
You work at a gun store, the average joe off the street doesn't care as much if his flashlight works or not verses a cop or military personnel. Just because joe doesn't buy it doesn't mean its overpriced.
+noredcr Agreed some people just just bitch about prices to much. The way I see it is its a life saving piece of kit god forbid you ever need to use it and your pistol. I know my life is worth 200 dollars. Streamlight is the next best option
I would love to see a flashlight mount for the annihilator, well if there are anything that'll fit it
5k Lumens, that is insanely bright.

Yeah they are really good value for money, great for airsoft as well as other shooting sports.

2000 lumens, wow now that's a lot of output, I find 300 lumens acceptable brightness.

That didn't look anywhere close to 5k lumens. Knowing that it is a Surefire, the price will probably be close to $5k though.
Lol I hope not!
Surefire are WAAAAAY over priced especially now that everyone has caught up and even surpassed their technology in LEDs,Lens & reflectors !

Can you fry an egg with 5000 lumens?
+r1pbuck and in 7 seconds cause that's all yer getting for battery time.
I need a Annihilator! :-)
Ok, that is hedging toward silly.
Surefire lights are overpriced...........
