The news leaves out a lot of details and tells that the men chased him down, however , In the video, Arbery runs up from behind their truck and attacked. He could have took off through a yard and avoided a confrontation. Sad situation for all involved.

It's legal to conduct a citizens arrest there, they had every right to chase him, that is a FACT. Arbery did not have a right to circle around a vehicle to fight for a deadly weapon, in that moment it became life or death in the eyes of the person holding the gun, and they have every right to defend themselves. It wasn't life or death for Arbrey, it was life or detainment. If he wasn't doing anything wrong he should've waited for the police, but he ran.

They have absolutely every right to open carry and at no point did either of them lift their gun to point it anywhere other than the ground. It turned into a defensive situation when he attacked Travis and tried to rip the gun from him, at that point Travis can legally shoot in self defense even though that's not even what happened. When someone's finger is on the trigger, the gun just has to be moved about 1/16-1/8 of an inch for the trigger to be pulled. Arbery attacked Travis McMichael, he tried to trick him by going around the passenger side, he grabbed his gun and hit him several times. The autopsy shows that he was shot through the right palm, meaning he grabbed the end of the barrel trying to take the gun. The other two wounds indicated that he was shot at an upwards sideways angle, the only way this is possible given the video of the shooting is for Travis to be pushing the butt away to the ground while Ahmaud pulled the barrel up towards him. Every shred of evidence suggests Arbery is the aggressor here and is the reason the gun went off as he pulled it while Travis had his finger stuck in the trigger guard. Stop trying to ruin people's lives simply because they're white.
Unless someone is breaking into your home do not get involved, call the police and let them deal with it. As you can see how quickly emotions can escalate and the next thing you know your on trial for murder. Let the police deal with these career criminals, its not worth your life.

See Georgia Code Title 17. Grounds for arrest § 17-4-60 (Citizens Arrest) And Georgia Code Title 16. Crimes and Offenses § 16-7-21 (Criminal Trespass) AND Georgia Code Title 16. Crimes and Offenses § 16-3-21 (Stand Your Ground) "A private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion." Criminal trespass, a misdemeanor in Georgia is described as: "A person commits the offense of criminal trespass when he or she intentionally damages any property of another without consent of that other person and the damage thereto is $500.00 or less or knowingly and maliciously interferes with the possession or use of the property of another person without consent of that person." Even as a misdemeanor it requires either damage to the property or to interfere with someone's use of the property. It can also be invoked if the rightful owner notifies the person that the property is off limits AND the visitor refuses to leave. Still only a misdemeanor. Being a former officer the perpetrator in this case should be well aware of the law and that he was not on the right side of it. He did not witness Ahmaud Arbery committing a felony nor did he have knowledge of him committing a felony. Additionally the man shown in the other three reported incidents is only mentioned as having trespassed, not having burglarized the construction sites he visited. Again, still a misdemeanor offense. Arbery did not enter the house with any seeming ill intent. He didn't enter with tools he could have used to do damage, it doesn't sound as though he damaged or removed anything. He clearly didn't have anything with him when the perpetrators attempted to illegally detain him. Which leads to the last law Stand Your Ground "A person is justified in threatening or using force against another when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such other's imminent use of unlawful force" Stand your ground defense doesn't only apply to people with guns. You are within your right to use force when you reasonably feel you are at risk of someone else using force against you. Arbery was likely within his right to attack the perpetrator as it was clear the man had a gun and was attempting to use that gun to illegally detain him even as he took every effort to avoid the two men. This should be clear stand your ground material. Think about what you would do in a similar situation, if you knew you had not broken any laws, and you were aware of two men pursuing you and then attempting to detain you. Then as you attempt to flee them you see that they have a weapon. Notice in the video that Arbery attempts to go around the passenger side of the vehicle to avoid the man getting out of the driver's side. The man on the driver's side then comes around the front of the vehicle at which time Arbery likely sees the weapon and in that split second defends himself. Imagine if your whole life you've experienced the narrative that people will try to harm or kill you if you're not careful. Here you are faced with someone who has chased you, blocked you, and now has a weapon out in the open which you can only assume is to be used against you. There's a clear intent in your mind when you see something like that given your own cultural heritage and the history behind that. It reminds you of a fight for a shotgun where he is at the end of the barrel. He is considered armed when he grabs the gun.
3. Noone is defending the McMichael's vigilantism. That was stupid. They could've just followed from a safe distance and waited for police.
4. Why were they armed? Have you ever seen a young man whose suspected of burglary being armed before? It's literally all over the channel ActiveSelfProtection. GO CHECK IT OUT. When they decided to be stupid vigilantes, they at least had the common sense to arm themselves in case he was armed and attacked them with a gun.
All in all. A stupid decision to go vigilante. But the rest seems likely considering the video material. A young burglar being confronted attacks the confrontors, wrestles the man for the gun, gets shot in the ensuing fight. That is what seems most LIKELY. I'm saying LIKELY, because we will probably never know. So it's up to the courts to decide. But based on the video material it's going to come down to if McMichael jr. legally defended himself with lethal force.

It's legal to conduct a citizens arrest there, they had every right to chase him, that is a FACT. Arbery did not have a right to circle around a vehicle to fight for a deadly weapon, in that moment it became life or death in the eyes of the person holding the gun, and they have every right to defend themselves. It wasn't life or death for Arbrey, it was life or detainment. If he wasn't doing anything wrong he should've waited for the police, but he ran.

When someone's finger is on the trigger, the gun just has to be moved about 1/16-1/8 of an inch for the trigger to be pulled. Arbery attacked Travis McMichael, he tried to trick him by going around the passenger side, he grabbed his gun and hit him several times. The autopsy shows that he was shot through the right palm, meaning he grabbed the end of the barrel trying to take the gun. The other two wounds indicated that he was shot at an upwards sideways angle, the only way this is possible given the video of the shooting is for Travis to be pushing the butt away to the ground while Ahmaud pulled the barrel up towards him. Every shred of evidence suggests Arbery is the aggressor here and is the reason the gun went off as he pulled it while Travis had his finger stuck in the trigger guard. Stop trying to ruin people's lives simply because they're white.

"A private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion."
Criminal trespass, a misdemeanor in Georgia is described as:
"A person commits the offense of criminal trespass when he or she intentionally damages any property of another without consent of that other person and the damage thereto is $500.00 or less or knowingly and maliciously interferes with the possession or use of the property of another person without consent of that person."
Even as a misdemeanor it requires either damage to the property or to interfere with someone's use of the property. It can also be invoked if the rightful owner notifies the person that the property is off limits AND the visitor refuses to leave. Still only a misdemeanor.
Being a former officer the perpetrator in this case should be well aware of the law and that he was not on the right side of it. He did not witness Ahmaud Arbery committing a felony nor did he have knowledge of him committing a felony. Additionally the man shown in the other three reported incidents is only mentioned as having trespassed, not having burglarized the construction sites he visited. Again, still a misdemeanor offense.
Arbery did not enter the house with any seeming ill intent. He didn't enter with tools he could have used to do damage, it doesn't sound as though he damaged or removed anything. He clearly didn't have anything with him when the perpetrators attempted to illegally detain him.
Which leads to the last law Stand Your Ground
"A person is justified in threatening or using force against another when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such other's imminent use of unlawful force"
Stand your ground defense doesn't only apply to people with guns. You are within your right to use force when you reasonably feel you are at risk of someone else using force against you. Arbery was likely within his right to attack the perpetrator as it was clear the man had a gun and was attempting to use that gun to illegally detain him even as he took every effort to avoid the two men. This should be clear stand your ground material.
Think about what you would do in a similar situation, if you knew you had not broken any laws, and you were aware of two men pursuing you and then attempting to detain you. Then as you attempt to flee them you see that they have a weapon. Notice in the video that Arbery attempts to go around the passenger side of the vehicle to avoid the man getting out of the driver's side. The man on the driver's side then comes around the front of the vehicle at which time Arbery likely sees the weapon and in that split second defends himself.
Imagine if your whole life you've experienced the narrative that people will try to harm or kill you if you're not careful. Here you are faced with someone who has chased you, blocked you, and now has a weapon out in the open which you can only assume is to be used against you. There's a clear intent in your mind when you see something like that given your own cultural heritage and the history behind that. You have two options and you've already been running and that hasn't worked, so fight is going to be your next response. There's no logic to it, there's no thought of compliance, there's only adrenaline and fast as you can responses to what's happening. You survive or don't through ingrained patterns that take the reasoned choices out of your hands when the stakes are this high. Arbery still lost in this case.

The Suspect was described as a heavyset black male aged 29, dressed in all black with a black face mask, carrying a rifle with a scope. The suspect was later seen in a wooded area before engaging in a shootout with police officers. The suspect was found deceased with gunshot wounds.

If you do, that puts your life in much greater risk. Arbery knew the man had a gun (he was clearly holding one in the video), but decided to attack the man. Maybe Arbery made this decision out of fear or maybe it was out of recklessness, either way the fact remains that it was a bad move, and he died because of it. And it doesn't matter who shot who, who's skin color was what color, what state they were in, what neighborhood they were in... to attack someone who you can see is carrying a gun puts your life in great danger and Arbery should not have done it.

When me and my husband were having our house built, we'd look into a lot of the houses on the block that were under construction, just to see the differences in the structures.
