'What did they know?' Ahmaud Arbery case prosecutor continues argument against citizen's arrest

- Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski is making her rebuttal as closing arguments conclude in the trial of the death of Ahmaud Arbery on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.
Arbery was shot and killed on Feb. 23, 2020. Cellphone video leaked to the public shows two armed white men in a truck approaching the 25-year-old Black man as he runs down the road. One of the men, later identified as Travis McMichael, and Arbery struggle over McMichael's shotgun before Arbery is shot and collapses.
Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and William "Roddy" Bryan, who recorded the video, are all charged with murder in Arbery's death.

@@Katiegirlluv you know I read many comments that wanted the state to emphasize race. I think the states thought process is to get the jury to focus on the law and facts of the case. They don’t want to throw away the case because someone thinks she is playing the race card or some other reason. Personally, if not mentioning race in this case gets the conviction. I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. The objective is justice and I think that is what we all want.

Looks like judge respects and is enjoying her level of skill and professionalism. She is able to make the case clear for the jury with simple examples explaining the law.

The best part is all 3 of the defendants have made the best case for the state so far. They had a sort of decent case just based on the one video alone before they started blabbing their mouths admitting all their crimes. Good thing they're all dumb as rocks.

Subjectively this is an horrendous crime with no real reason besides assumed racism. Objectively as a law graduate here in England I found this fascinating. To me she gave a great, understandable and concise explanation of what a citizen's arrest is and what, more importantly in this case, it isn't.

@@neilsiebenthal9254 Yes we do. And there is a parallel with the law in force in Georgia, this being that one must have personal knowledge of the crime having been committed and that one is restricted to detaining the suspect until a Constable can take over.
@@neilsiebenthal9254 Yeah, I guess that's what screwed the prosecution in the Rittenhouse case too, especially on the second and third counts. Huber and Grosskreutz only had random people in the crowd claiming Kyle was an active shooter and/or had just killed someone; neither had direct knowledge of anything, so they couldn't argue they lawfully attempted to detain him, etc. Interesting how two unrelated trials, running almost simultaneously, have brought this rather specific but rare law into focus!

About 15 years ago, my wife and I lived next to a property where there was a house under construction. We would, from time-to-time, go over and take a look. See what the floor plan was shaping up to be, what the progress was--just out of curiosity. Never once did I have to say to my wife: "dear, we can't take that risk. Someone will automatically assume we are stealing." We did not have to fear vigilantes would chase us down, possibly hurting or killing us. I also used to jog in that same neighborhood--again, never did the thought even cross my mind that someone would assume I'm running because I committed some crime. I'm not proud to be white--that's weird to me, because I just happen to be white--it's not like I had to overcome anything or earn it. But I do feel fortunate to be white. I do not have to live in fear of people like the McMichaels merely for doing ordinary things.

That’s why his lawyer kept asking. For a mistrial or make a very last minutes plea deal. Prosecutors tried to get him to accept a deal, so they were done with him!!

I wonder what Ahmoud’s last thoughts were. Why are these men chasing me, is that a gun? Why are they yelling, which way should I run? Then he probably has a moment where they jump out on him, point guns at him and shoot. He feels pain, he’s laying on the ground, probably trying not to fall asleep, and then a cop pulls up, just stands there, and nobody renders aid. Nobody asks him if he’s okay, tells him help is coming, puts pressure on his wounds. They just stand there and talk while he’s dying.

The craziest part is the video where they say he doesn't steal anything he just walks around so the entire time so they knew he wasn't stealing simple fix would be no trespassing signs they never had to go "talk to him"

Well, they can’t charge the cop for that but if that cop had a decent heart, he would offer a sincere apology for telling that lie.
Citizens' arrest may only be permitted by (an) individual(s)only if they have witnessed a crime taking place, this does not mean that suspicion can be based on neighborhood gossip or social media gossip of crime in the past or even the recent past.
Self-defense cannot be a plea, if the person claiming that they wished to pursue a person to enact an illegal citizen's arrest, has chased a suspect, without any present or past evidence of a crime(s). Ahmaud Arbery attempted to run away 5 times from the aggressors attempting an illegal citizen's arrest. Exiting a vehicle with a weapon pointed at an unarmed, innocent man, is murder.
Let's just forget about their run ins they had with the deceased that put his hands in his waiste acting as if he had a gun when he was caught at night at the same property that property was stolen. @@truthseeker1833 Who had run ins with the deceased because it surely wasn’t the McMichaels? It doesn’t matter what he did before or that he was on probation. They did not catch him committing a crime so they had no legal obligation to arrest him.
