    I don't think people prefer older bikes over newer bikes with tech but its the price. Most people can't afford it. I read that someone bought a brand new aprilia rsv factory in 2008 for under 10,000 pounds. Now they are around 28,000 pounds. That's why all the dealerships are closing down.

    @inthewind773 2 месяца назад +9

    As a GSA owner I think the best thing to happen to the Adventure and the *real* reason to upgrade is the ASA option. By all early accounts they got it right. The GSA is such an easy, pleasurable long distance bike, except in certain scenarios, for instance, when you're fully loaded with 40kg of luggage, have a nearly-full tank and are stuck doing 5 mph on a steep incline in the Alps behind a column of cars because some tw*t decided to take a relaxed horse and carriage ride up the St. Gotthard pass.
    In a stop-and-go situation that you can't easily filter out of this "easy" 300+kg bike suddenly demands all your focus, clutch, throttle, and rear brake skills just to keep the bike upright and moving. Unnecessary stress even at my height of 6ft 2. I imagine ASA will make heavily-laden slow-speed scenarios of stop and go traffic so much less annoying, and let's face it the gearbox on the GS has always been rough, so I say good riddance. This tech should make those 8 hour days in the saddle more relaxing, which is the whole point of the GSA, and I suspect most of the target audience for this bike would agree.
    That said, I'll always have a manual gearbox on my naked where the focus of the ride is more the bike, less the scenery.

    Chris, you are the first to spot this: the “ears” on the crash bars. These are great, but squeezing through is going to be tougher on commutes. I have a new style (for the moment) RT. I commute to London, without the panniers, using just the top box. I can foresee potential low scrapes as you twist the bars to squeeze through. As a commuter who filters for England, ASA, makes perfect sense.

    Having owned the 1300 for 9 months, it's a very fast and competent bike, I like it, but sadly I don't love it. I want a bike I ride just for the heck of it in between the long tours. Amazing motorway distance bike but for me It's lacking something, and it also sounds terrible (isn't the sound of a bike something we all enjoy). I initially wasn't fussed for the radar option , although now find is a very good feature once you get used to it.

    I've ridden GS adventures for 10 years, several 1200's two 1250's and I always immediately trade up when a new one is launched. Yesterday I tested the automatic DSG version of the new 1300 GS.
    I'm sorry to say I HATED it. The automatic gearbox always felt like it was a gear too high and you didn't have instant contact with the road, the lack of a clutch lever means you cannot disengage the engine which bike riders do. The auto box moves up a gear as you accelerate around a bend 😱 a real heart stopper on several occasions. I'm 6'0" and I am comfortable on the 1250. I was cramped and unable to comfortably nudge the gear PEG on the new bike , I cannot imagine how uncomfortable a long 6-800 mile day would be, which my current bike eats easily. The seat is like an oak board which adds to the discomfort. All in all I was desperately disappointed and won't ever buy one. I'm 62 so I don't know how many more bikes I have in me but I'll be looking around rather than trying to use the 1300.

    That whine when rolling off/on the throttle would do my head in. The front tank bags make a very wide bike obnoxiously wide and for us poor gits in SE England filtering, never that easy on a GSA, will be harder. Biggest problem is that even on PCP it’s probably only for wealthier retired people. What’s the balloon payment on a fully kitted out bike? 12-13 grand! 😮

    When you stood back for ‘spot the difference’, if you had the paintwork and graphics of the old on the new they would look even more similar. In the flesh it’s more appealing than the PR pfs. Seems a logical progression apart from the pannier frames. Give it 8 months and you’ll wonder what all the negatives were all about - enjoy the hard breaking and auto ride height highs 😎

    As a life long GS rider since 1984 (still have my R80) albeit with a couple of gaps, I have to say that the 1300 I tested was amazing in terms of stability, pace etc over my 2012 GSA.
    However, was it £15k better, absolutely not! The 1200 TC full of character and grunt, smooth as you like with a better gearbox and no driveline shunt.
    Tested a Voge 900 DSX, was that £4k better…..well, there is an interesting question, all day comfortable, as much power as you need in the real world, looks MUCH nicer to me.
    But what surprised me the most was the ride, much better and more planted than the GS on the infinitely adjustable KYB suspension.
    Makes you think!

    I've chopped in my 1300 for the gsa, the 13 feels quite sporty after having the 1250 gs and gsa. Not as sporty as the big Ktm but much closer than the 1250. I do find the 1300 a bit cramped tbh so how's the leg room ?

    I have been the same, Had a gs for 10 years currently on the same trophy but the new bike won’t be getting bought, The buttons are sht the layout and this little faf button for the screen seats etc is rubbish. The rear pannier bracket is an expensive bill waiting to happen. The looks are imo worse than the old one which is the fugliest bike i’ve owned. The quickshifter is still garbage and the engine chaps like my old ford orion . For a “premium brand” like bmw you would think ze engineerz could come up with something a tad better than that.
