Back in grade 9 we would all bring in our mini amplifiers and jam in the hallway at school. I swear our whole class played guitar back then. Mini amps 15 years ago did not sound as good as this, that's for sure.
Yeah, they sounded like ass!.. I had one that looked like a half stack and u could clip on your belt.. Blew the thing up by running a distortion pedal into it and cranking it lol
I watched this review in Jan 2019, I still have this little amp, and it still works fine. I've dropped it, stepped on it, kicked it, I've spilt everything from soda to water on it, and it still works. What the heck did they use to make it? Space metal? Souls of their enemies? Idk, but it was like $60 bucks at a Guitar Center, so a newbie guitarist like me can just jam my heart out. I named it Blumblyboo.
@@devvratpandey2980 To be honest, I've accidentally left the thing on for a day or two, and it still played fine. I think if the speaker in the amp isn't producing sound, it won't use the battery. It uses 4 AA batteries, and I don't remember if it came with batteries when purchased, but if it did, I'd change the batteries out asap, to something like Duracell or whatever.
Ok so i just want to ask you 2 questions. 1st one is can i ask you a queation? 2nd can i make the amp sound less loud when using distortion? Kinda new to guitar
Been shamelessly using this for recording demos and let me tell you, it's a godsend for those who live in apartments but still want a somewhat authentic recording.
I was worried when I bought this wee amp that it would just eat batteries, but the 6x Duracell that I installed on the first day are still working and that was a year ago. Pretty pleased with that!
Apparently the delay doesn't use anywhere near the juice that reverb does. Mine is still on its 1st set. I'm impressed, and like Marty says, it's fun! And so portable! Thanks for the review, Marty!
It sounds great for such a tiny amp, and from what I could tell, it didn't sound very hissy or have any dirty background noise when cranked right up. Impressive.
This amp is amazing. I sometimes forget I’m playing a battery powered mini amp, it sounds surprisingly good for the size. Also the batteries I placed over a year ago are still working. Wish I had this as my practice p when I was just starting out playing.
I have one since they came out. Since then I play everyday a few hours with headphones on, over backingtracks. It sounds OK through the speaker but the real strength is the headphones output. It then plays the backingtrack in stereo and sets your guitar in the middle. That sounds great. On headphones it draws around 40 mA so batteries last long. I play blues/rock/progrock. I have 2 Fender tube-amps but seldom use them since I have the Fly (bought them in the 80's when I played in a bands). I'm thinking about selling them and buy a small modelling amp with a lot more effects, more EQ settings and mains poowered. (But it must be stereo with a headphones output and mp3 input like the fly)
tenantrep yes there is a 1/8 trs aux input for plugging in any phone or ipod type device. As long as the device used also has a headphone jack it will work.
Sounds pretty good! The best part is that you plugged right into the amp and played it! No miking into a PA or something to distract from the sound ...After all we want is to hear the amp so we can decide if it is worth it in this complicated world...Thanks for the Review, Marty...Rock on!!!
In combination with my electric guitar controls this provides a satisfying range of tones and simple effects. I've been using it as an all-purpose amplifier so I noticed that the batteries that came with it lasted for many hours. Then the power light began to dim slightly, but it still worked fine for a while after. Then as it started to get really dim the sound quality began to fail. So there is a clear indication when you need to change batteries soon.
I have this amp, the British Flag version. I just love it. I also bought a $35 Ammoon 2.4g wireless guitar system. That way you don’t have to worry about knocking it off the table by the guitar chord which is easily stiff enough to move it. The power adapter was $12 extra. I play this amp far more than any other amp I own. Want to sit on the front porch? How about taking out the amp and jamming? Highly recommend it. As a professional pilot it goes everywhere with me, as well as my Traveler ES-2.
Horacio Garcia May I ask how long the batteries last? I'm tempted to buy a portable battery powered amp and that one looks just perfect for what I'm looking for if the batteries could last a few hours of playing.

The beginning of the review, starting jamming and not talking, and with such funky bluesy licks deserved a "love" button. Are you using any pedals in that?
Most of my learning curve has been on the 4-12 cab. Back in 2012 got my first Blackstar HT-5 which is rated 5-watts into a Celston 10" 16ohm 40 watt speaker open back. After owning and paying a high price which still holds it value; darn this model is stout. I decided to acquire a Fly 3 and today own two complete Blackstar Fly combo setup with chargers. I still have original 6-1.5 volt batteries even near two years old with some closed cup hearing headphones which I can use my pedals and these little monsters put out the tone and volume. Also have the ability to tie Fly into chain in/out of HT-5 for using the digital delay. It all works perfectly plus able to study my music either with head phones on or off. Great convience. I also picked up a bass Fly Three and when able to afford a bass will try out amp and it's features. Awesome job techs for Blackstar Company.
Bought the blackstar mini with the extra speaker and by the way it fits in my strat case...you have to place it face down and put a note pad at tail piece to push the body towards the middle of case so the tuning peg don't hit amp knob

I have seen a number of demos of this unit but Marty is the first one who uses the i-phone to demo that application. Thanks Marty. You may have missed an opportunity to plug in the extension cabinet and external power supply... you'd then get 6 watts of JUICE. I have to get one of these.
I got my Fly 3 with the extension cabinet and ac/dc power source. A couple things to note: They don't like Lithium batteries... gotta use alkaline cells... and IF you plug it into alternating current, you can't turn up the gain too far without it becoming annoyingly buzzy... even without anything plugged in to it. Use it at about halfway and play with the reverb and it is really cool.
Marty, I see people using this for electric. Would it be suitable for acoustic-electric (Ibanez with pickup, pre-amp & EQ)? I've read things about different impedance values between electric and acoustic. Now, I find out they have come out with an acoustic version. I have both acoustic and an electric guitar. Thoughts?

Hi Marty! Just bought the Blackstar Fly 3 along with the extension cab, power supply- a Demo model they had from......... Heck ya Sweetwater! For $110.49! Normally the power supply is sold seperately- @ $30 so at the price I paid it was a steal! I haven't really messed with it much yet but thanks for your demo of the product. The sounds and features you explored affirmed a very wise buy on my part! Rock On Brother! I really, really enjoy your content! Especially the Gibson factory tour and your dream guitar! Ya.
You're tha man. The go-to man when wanting to know about equipment and learning riffs. Well, you and that other guy, but he's kinda too preppy clean-cut. You're the real McCoy.

That's a nice comprehensive review, and you get some great tones out of that thing!
Love that clean sound! Might have to get one!
Amazing demo! I’m sold! It’s so good and soooooo cheap! Play anywhere? You’re kidding me?
Thanks Marty...this is a nice little amp and you are really good at guitar too. 🙏🏻
Ya.
eyeing this amp for my bedroom... i guess I'll get one!
Marty would be great as an MC in Vegas. ty 4 vid
Great little video, really settled my decision. love your tele as well. thanks.
Dude you cold on that guitar!!!
You're tha man. The go-to man when wanting to know about equipment and learning riffs. Well, you and that other guy, but he's kinda too preppy clean-cut. You're the real McCoy.
Love it! I'm going to buy based on the sound you're getting! Thanks
Why they didn't include strap buttons is beyond me...
Mine has them.😎🔥
Marty please to a guitar lesson to "Broken“ by Seether
I got one of these for GBP26.00 by subbing to Total Guitar Magazine. Offer probably only available in Great Britain and possibly Europe but six issues of Total Guitar AND a Blackstar Fly 3 for almost f*** all? Why not! Excellent review, Mr S.
Hey Marty, good overview of the amp. I've been looking for a small amp to use out on the deck - was thinking a pignose, but this seems better. Cool video
That little thing sounds really great!
I could be wron but I believe the ISF EQ is actually a scoop frequency.
Cool review. Good things come in small packages.
Wow Marty, it’s was so awesome 👏 so I got on line and ordered one 🎉🎊 for my self🤣🎸
Love your videos Marty! Can this little amp be used with an acoustic guitar?
Did you ever find out?
