33:55 Ok, how about how do you cap the angled ends? That is the kind of stuff that always put me off using hollow section decking. Maybe manufacture from a couple of caps and bond together or make from deck stock and make plugs and holes?
I know I’ve seen this before. I’ve seen them all (several more than once). You’re showing us the waterproof decking that allows you to build your office under the deck! 👍👍👍
This is great! I was not aware of this product. Thank you for reloading. I need to visit you guys, I’m an architect who recently started my practice in Sylva NC . I have clients who need a good builder. You guys are perfect.
I am a brand new viewer to your channel !! It's fantastic !! Wish I had known about it a while ago !! Your topics and presentations are excellent interspersed with some humour !! Thanks for NOT having bad language, too !! I look forward to many more views in the future. Onwards and Upwards !!😅
I would use Lexel to glue some of those ends caps on the diagonal cuts of the decking. With the cuts being longer because of the diagonal cuts, you may have to fabricate some out of the left-over decking material. That decking does look great.
We used this stuff before. I think it was 33 unit condo in total. All the decks were 6’x12’ or so. The guys from Duxxbak came and “certified” 3 of us to install this stuff. I left that job before they were tested but I had my doubts about it while I was installing it. We played hell getting the first one waterproof (the one the guys came and certified us by watching us install 3 boards each). We spent so much time putting in all the blocks all around where the deck meets the structure because there were bolts all in the way (this was a remodel) and the GC didn’t want to replace the joists. All in all I think I like the trex idea of catching the water with rubber membrane in between each joist and a gutter.
With the cost of a composite deck, why not just sheet it with plywood and apply a torch on membrane that is good for 30+ years. Waterproof and you don't need to go with some specialized composite system or install crazy blocking. Additionally you can layout your decking in whatever pattern you want as you've got a solid subfloor.
Gorgeous new deck. Love the easy install decking. You should charge rent for walking on this to recoup some money. One suggestion on the railing is to put solar lights on top of the posts. Thanks for another great video and thanks for not cutting these videos too short.
Do the end caps of the waterproof portion have a drainage hole? And what about the 45 degree cuts, do those get caps that fit? Do pests stay out of it? I feel like it would instantly get a wasp nest.
I noticed the 45 degree ends were not capped in the drone footage at the end. The caps of the straight cuts appear to have drain holes. Didn't think about pests getting in. Good thought
Hey Erik, I noticed you were using a knife to get off the globs of dust on your sandpaper. I had the same problem not too long ago and I used a plastic bristle brush that seemed to do a really nice job.
I've seen so many horror stories in the news about decks falling with people being maimed and even killed - this is a great example of how to do it right But also anyone buying a house should inspect the deck thoroughly before throwing parties on it!
You guys ever build decks out of wood? I have that angle drill jig thing. Your bits have to have a hex shank. Ceiling looks great. Real wood! I've built decks in SoCal out of DF. Is it code to have those gaps in the angled corners?
I also live up north and webget snow and ice. Will the water freeze and clog up the drainage in the channels. Has the deck boards been tested by supplier for freeze thaw?
I noticed in the drone footage the 45 degree cuts on the front were open at the end of the deck. Is that like that for drainage or do they not make a beauty plate to go over the end of angle cuts?
Re watched the drone footage looks like the straight cuts have beauty caps but nothing for the angle cuts with drainage. Kind of makes this system limited to certain designs like square or rectangle decks to look completely finished
@PerkinsBuilderBrothers - Question on that deck boards. I know that a lot of manufactured decking gets super hot in direct sunlight. Does this stuff also have the same issue? Or is it better due to it being hollow?
This is effectively the roof of the new addition. Could you use this material for roofing? If it holds up to sun and doesn’t leak seems it would be a good choice for hail prone areas?
@gregcoldewey7724 How much is that stuff $5 a linear foot? so $10/sq ft means $1000 a square vs $200 for a 3-tab roofing square. so 5x your average roof cost.
Ive been looking for a good outdoor rated fan for a porch make over. What is the brand and model of the one you installed for this project? Appreciate it!
Long version or condensed version, new upload or re-upload -- I don't care, I'll watch these videos as they come... I love the tip-sharing part intended for inexperienced guys like me... avoiding mistakes in the future DIY projects. Thanks PerkinsBrotherBuilders 👍✌️
beautiful project!!!!......I wish you had talked a bit about budget. It was at least $100,000 upgrade, which is worth it for value, but clue us in, please.
Love your channel. How is that waterproof? As long as you don't get a full inch of rain. Look at the waterflow. It will spill over and drip down below.
Hey I dunno what type of panels those are but plastic or vinyl gets brittle as it is exposed to UV light have you ever takes down old vinyl panels on east west exposed walls it gets chalky and cracks. It is what’s called hydrophilic
Question, if the deck is waterproofed, and the water seeps through the small gaps anyway and then gets trapped, isn't it just going to rot out eventually?
My dad installed a a similar decking product on his deck about 10 years ago. Over the years he has had major bee issues with the holes on the cut ends of the deck boards. What has your experience been?
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers The deck boards where the ends are not cut at 90 degrees (33:56) look like a insect invitation! Bee or otherwise. Obviously the manufacturer's end caps are designed for 90 degree cuts, but there's got to be some way to deal with those angled cuts???
You already uploaded this video last year, or am I wrong? At least you already fitted the terrace with the waterproof floor covering last year. But thanks again
Lots of work to edit all that footage for a start 2 finish in 1 episode, nice work Erick, I forgot how dodgy some of that previous work was. 😮 Michelle 🇦🇺
bet this was reposted because of the barrage of comments on the most recent project. I sure have my doubts. Eric's idea of using closed cell spray foam as an "extra later of protection" on the underside of the deck seems scetchy AF. But its his house and if things go south then its his business. Hopefully they don't spend a lot of time on the interior finishes because it may need to be gutted in the near future.
I think the timing of this is obviously fitting with the update videos and honestly im just thankful for an early upload this week!
You guys should build an office under there now that it's waterproof! Well done guys!
they already did
@@ottosmusic5900 That's the joke, you found it!
That's a great idea! I would also add a fire pit somewhere on the property, let's say instead of the pond
When building said office make sure to take note of where you place the toilet...it might be tricky, just a hunch I have
They should build a house attached to the deck!
Remember watching the original videos for this, love rewatching it again. :)

Oh my goodness, I love watching these fellows. I’ve learned so much. Thank you and thank you.
I enjoyed watching you and your crew tearing down, then installing your new deck!
Well done, Perkins Brothers!

Super beautiful view of the mountains, very pretty. Love to see your son working with the crew, that’s good parenting there.
Your team does excellent work…so much attention to detail!
PBB and crew are excellent. Eric's editing is top notch!
Stay healthy and keep up the good work at the site and for the people in need...from the other side of the world the Netherlands
I like when you do the full build videos, I usually watch every video from you guys the day it's up, but I like to watch the wrap ups as well>!
Hi guys, great job. Great product. For the boards that are cut at angle, use 2 end caps. Just cut one of the 2 to make it fit whole.
Even though it's a Re-Load I'm watching anyway. Love you guys

Beautiful job guys, on a beautiful house! 👏🏻
Beautiful job and love the type of deck that is♥️
Feels like I'm back from the future! Great job gentlemen!
Gorgeous build.
Really cool decking material! Never seen it before.
Whoa , that would make a great office /gym space underneath there, would be a cools series for a tweezer project

Your music selection is great

Thank you for adding this.

Jay's Parting Words. Should be a regular segment in all your videos😂
I'm getting video withdrawals.... So im watching them all again and making sure to like it so i know i watched it :)
I think it's a great video. Can you please make a video showing what happens to the water
Loaner hard hats and vests at the land fill are like borrowing used underware from the lost and found LOL! We've all done it!
or the used speedo at the swimming pool.
how much past the facia did you overhang the decking for drainage? Any concern of water curling around bottom of deck board back to facia?
Howdy, from J. Creek. Beautiful work!👍🏻👊🏻
Beautiful work!
Very nice job ,you have a good crew
Turned out great,👌
Jason is such a handsome hard worker!
With the pitch in the deck, did you make the railings out from the house level or at the same pitch as the deck (parallel to the deck)?

Can water from condensation and seepage drain from bottom of railing columns?

Love your channel. How is that waterproof? As long as you don't get a full inch of rain. Look at the waterflow. It will spill over and drip down below.
yep.. luckily the deck is pitched 4 inches from one end to the other, so it drains pretty fast
What is the matte finish on the Douglas fir? Clear or what color stain?
