Hi TRP. Full disclosure: I'm a big Katelyn Tuohy fan... for the future events. However, I'm also a realist and have to point out that this race is for COLLEGE level athletes. Effectively, a second-rate level of runners in Cross-country. If it was a true Invitational for a Top level competition, we would see the top female runners in the USA invited. That's if it were an "Open Grade" race. But it isn't. Katelyn had the opportunity last year to compete in the world Cross-Country Champs, representing the USA. But she didn't for a number of reasons. 1. The race wasn't planned into her personal running program for the year. 2. The World Champs are Open Grade, meaning KT would be competing against the World's best CC runners. 3. The College doesn't get any kudos for having runners in Open Grade CC races. (College scholorships are all about COLLEGE races) So, sadly, we didn't get to see KT competing finally against the Open Grade competition that she should be racing against. Remember, Open Grade is for ages 20 and over and KT is over that already. I think KT would do very well in Open Grade CC races. She is tough and strong now and will only get better with another 3 or 4 years strength/speed and stamina training. Perfect for a 10k Track runner.
I think Tuohy will win again, with Chmiel, Quarzo, the freshmen Stephens and Napoleon also of State; the steeple phenom Karinauskeite of CBU; Valby, Flomena Asekol and Amelia Mazza-Downie of Florida; Amina Maatoug of Duke; Mary Hennelly of Georgetown (who competed against KT many times in high school); Maia Ramsden of Harvard; Gracelyn Larkin of NAU; Siona Chisholm and the Markezich sisters of Notre Dame; Sofia Dudek and any of the great freshman pickups at Stanford and about 20 others that I missed competing for top 25 spots. I think State will bring home the team bacon again, but not by much, and they do not by any means have a lock this year. They are loaded, bringing 14, including 6 of their outstanding freshman class. Hypothetically, if they were allowed, they could line up two complete squads with a shot at the podium. However, without Tyynismaa as a strong three, the 5th guy in could be a problem. On the Nuttycombe home page with all the details they say each team can line up nine, two of them I presume as independents (?) This is going to be a great race.
102023 This turned out to be a very prescient video. And it showcases this cross champs season (the conference, regionals and finally, the 'big dance', as Carrie Tollefson calls it as one of the greatest ever. Parker beat KT by a decisive margin at Nuttycombe, but I also think that Katelyn was measuring Parker, and when she understood that Parker was not going to break down in the last three or four hundred meters, she conceded and said, 'I'll settle for two points'. Keep in mind that Tuohy's bank of cross knowledge is about 100 times richer than Parker's. I.e: Parker is now learning how to run tangents. Katelyn (and the Boss Lady) know exactly what they are doing, and what they are doing is (I say without evidence) getting Amaris and Bush in fit trim and then figuring out who their strongest 5-6-7 are, and I think they are actually among their stellar class of freshmen, who, by the way, augur very well for NC State's future, whether or not they 3-peat this year. Leah Stephens, Angelina Napoleon, Jolena Quarzo. Caroline Murrell, Grace Hartman, Hanna Gapes: these are names to watch. It could be that State's eventual second place on the podium this year (to NAU) is actually a developmental year.
hmm... the way I understand it KT is seeking to peek in June/July 2024... if so then this finish was foreseeable... being PV is only person last year that could push KT... and Con-grats to NAU and PV. nice to all of you who ran.
I always am skeptical of prerace hype when the athlete in question is competing for the first time in the season. However I will say it's Katelyn for the win.
Every time that Katelyn and Parker race, it's the same outcome - Katelyn wins! Parker seems rather fragile and Katelyn is much stronger. Katelyn is also a more strategic runner and she has one of the best coaches in the NCAA. I don't see any way that Parker can compete with Katelyn unless Katelyn gets ill or injured.
@wberkmann I believe Parker did a much better job running the tangents in this race and had a much better idea where the finish line was this time verses last year's NCAA finals.
If valby doesn't beat her here she won't beat her this year
Well…. I’m glad to say this year has been amazing for running
She just did though, so that is going to be interesting.
Don't follow your reasoning.
i hope tuohy will save something for the end of season next year and doesn't get burned out
Actually this is the 3rd or 4th time they have raced together and this is Valby's first win, congrats to her, they are both amazing runners!
Looking forward to it. 😃
Looking forward to seeing what happens!
Valby absolutely killed it. She is in even better shape than last year.
Kelsey /Chmiel's name is pronounced Ka-meal, not cha-meal.

oh, i actually thought this was a recap of the race
🎉🎉🎉
Katelyn Tuohy, but rooting for both. Both are great athletes.
Cool
How many gold medals has she won in the world championship track races?

Valbynation
The great rivalry or the Abercrombie and the Nuttycombe families.

Clickbait title. Again
Please put “hype” or something in the title if it’s not covering the actual race
I’m happy for Parker. It gets kind of boring if one person wins constantly. It’s about time somebody had to head and pulled out the win.
Just went to their open house
I always am skeptical of prerace hype when the athlete in question is competing for the first time in the season. However I will say it's Katelyn for the win.
Katelyn Tuohy is going to take first
Katelyn may lose if she lets Valby get too big of a lead
Callin Tuohy for the w. She’s so strong over the later miles
The other broad is more fit though. Like in the english sense of the meaning of the word fit.
Now that's the body Every female should strive for. Perfection.
Wow, I am the fourth comment.
Katelyn Tuohy got some deltoids!! 😍
What about Jenna Hutchins. A total failure for 3 years now. Did a Brie Oakley, Sarah Baxter.
Valby will create a gap only to be overtaken again by Tuohy before the finish.

Not this time. Valby won.

Parker will win. She's taller than Katelyn who hasn't run at all yet. She got destroyed in Austin. Addy Wiley us better than both! She's doping though
Katelyn clears. Why make a video about this and not the men’s cross country race. Way more exciting.
Because it's nicer to look at chicks than at guys........
Don't put your mortgage on Valby....
this didn't age well...
@@acmoore9 Its good to see her run so well. Hopefully she can stay health for a full season this year.
