I had to purchase a second G. E through the wall unit because The first one did not Get rid of the humidity, It was 76-78%. I returned it and the second one did the same thing. I don't think I'll buy another g.E again.
I just bought a 12000 BTU AC unit for my living room. I live in a second floor apartment so it gets pretty hot up here. When I took this beast out of the box I thought, this thing is too heavy and could fall out of the window due to its size. Nothing is under the window I'm putting it in but I was still concerned based on the units size about installation in a second story window. Seems it's the same as the 5k btu installation that I have now. Great video, thanks!
People sometimes shy away from those window units, but everyone I know who has ever bought one has been really pleased with it as an affordable option. I’d be curious to hear how happy you are with it after a full season using it.
I just had my second portable unit die so I want to go with a window unit. The portable units just don't cool that well IMO. I know this may sound superficial but I'm so undecided right now because I'm worried what my neighbors will think with this in my window. There is 1 other house in my entire neighborhood with a window unit in an upstairs bedroom. I'm looking for encouragement to make the decision but every single video I've watched people have installed these on the back or the sides of their houses. I have no choice and need to put it in the front.
Directions didn't say much about drain plug. Instructions say it may be more efficient to leave the plug in, but there is a lot of condensation that comes out of the unit on humid days. No drain parts included ! My unit is on the porch, so I have a small bucket under it. But that is not what I was hoping for. How about a little input. Thanks Buzz in Maine
@charissaJane my compressor is noisy as well. Since it fits into a sleeve in the wall I bought sound baffling material and glued it on the surface of the encasement. It was much quieter after that.
Mine gives me two minutes of cooling, and then it stops , and what follows is 12 minutes without cooling and just fan. Into 5 minutes am already sweating. Tried everything with this GE smart AC. Tomorrow am returning it back to home depot.
The thing about AC units is that you are supposed to let it sit in the window for 24 hours as the coolant must settle to the bottom before it starts, the same is true with alot of appliences and letting the oils flow to the bottom for 24 hours before you use them.
@williamtalavera1803 I had to return mine as well for the same reason also mine did not dehumidify. You and I just both got a defective unit out of the box.
@@6barry66 did you exchange it for the same model and if so, does it stay blowing cold air? I just bought one a couple days ago and it blows cold air for about 10 minutes then warm air for an hour or so then 10 more minutes of cool air.
Why don't you just make your roof white it'll help the Heat Factor or you can lift up your roof light three or four inches with more insulation and then put a new roof on it it'll help that's what I did

Sorry to hear that. Ours continues to work well.

Is it powerful or not really?
And you mentrion the 5kbtu unit do they preform the same or is one more powerful
@@xtheslump 12000 business is more powerful than 5000 ac unit

Can you do the quote mode ? And does it shut of when it reaches the core temp?
Mine keeps saying on the app that the filter needs to be cleaned, I clean it and press the button on the unit to reset it and it doesn’t go away.

Not much I can offer. Mine exits outside but I don’t see any condensation running out of it.
@@buzzlovelace usually the water in it evaporates if it doesn't you can pipe the drain to a place away from your patio.
Love the hahahahaha part. I just did the same exact thing yesterday 6/21/24 lolol
26:07 its very important to remove that so rust wont form on the condenser
@@Rayray_unicornplayz567 the condenser is either made of aluminum or copper they do not rust.
Is there a rattle noise from the compressor? Mine is brand new and has this. Wondering if it’s normal.
I think it is just the metal assembly. Compressor is not making a rattle.

Nice video. What brand thermometer you were using? I like to have one.
It is from Harbor Freight
@cyrusIIIII a regular digital cooking thermometer that you get at the supermarket or from Amazon will work just fine.
