You're the best. Almost in tears bc im so use to being codependent or calling one of my brothers to do stuff. Im learning to be more independent and you made this whole process a lot easier and more fun. Thanks🧚🏽♀️
I am glad that I was able to help. I am sorry that you did not get the chance to learn these types of things from your father. Even though I had a dad I learned most things from mentors, teachers, and working. I lost my mother last year and cried my way through renovating an entire house after work each night. You will see a ton of renovation videos coming soon as I finally have the time to edit them.
Written instructions usually confuse me, but watching this video told me everything I needed to know about installing a window a/c this afternoon. I was unaware about the need to use insulation at the top of the window and glad to learn why it is helpful. Thanks.
TIP: immediately after unboxing, and before installing the other parts, plug it in and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes to make sure it actually works. This way if you have to take it back to the store, you don't have a lot of pieces to take back off and repack. I learned this the hard way.
Just had this happen to me and I messed up big time. I bought the unit on clearance in October. Let it sit until last week and opened the brand new thing out of box and installed it… didn’t work. Walmart wouldn’t take it back because of when I bought it. Even though they sold me a defective unit. Had to call the manufacturer and they refunded me thankfully. This is a pro tip and don’t wait like me…. Dupyashhh
Thank you for your video! My mother and I were so confused by the instructions that came with the a/c unit. I’m glad I found this! It was so much easier because of you!
Thank you 🙏🏾, I thought this would be hard my grandson lost the instructions and I said RUclips has everything. You made this so easy, I pray you have other tutorials like fixing holes in the walls or fixing a step inside the house that literally broke off. Something’s I need to fix before I move. Again thank you 🙏🏾🤗
What a wonderful and clear instructional video! I purchased an air conditioner, not GE brand, that didn't have an instruction manual with it at all! I decided to watch a video tutorial after my efforts to find one online were fruitless. This was so easy to follow and understand. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. You saved my life. I live in Texas, and the house i moved in is holding some pretty ratchet heat at the back of the house, so i bought a 2nd unit, and ur video was so self exploratory for a woman. 👏 👏 👍
You are VERY helpful - thank you SO much. My son and I bought 2 of the exact airconditioners you show here in your video, and if not for you, we would have had difficulty. You went over EVERYTHING, and we are very grateful. We appreciate you from New Jersey!
Thank you, for the feedback. As long as it is a vinyl window the tape is much easier to stop air gaps and should not damage anything on the window. Painted windows may cause some loose paint to come off, but I still prefer it over drilling holes everywhere for a window AC.
Thank you so much!! This is my 1st time putting in an AC unit (2 of them actually) completely by myself and you made this so easy to understand. I really appreciate you explaining why certain things needed to be done as well. (Or any other extra info!) Great job!!! 👏😊
Thank you for this video. I bought the exact same model and have never installed one before so I am glad to have found this instructional video. Things make more sense to me when I can watch it being done as opposed to reading how to do it!
one of the best install videos I've seen. I have a 5000btu unit also, but have the side to side slider windows so have to adapt your install to that. Very helpful thanks.
Thank you, I was really scared to drill into the window like the instructions and GE instructional video showed in fear of shattering my window but this made me a lot more comfortable leaving it taped in.
I have taped them and other times I drill a very shallow hole and still tape to prevent drafts. If I was on the ground floor and in a dangerous area I would either drill or at least put blocks of wood at the top so no one can lift the window open and climb into the house.
This was a very well made, clear video. I like the suggestion of packing tape to seal. Now I will look for a video about how to remove the screen window. It does not slide, is not like any window I have worked with before. It looks like it has 2 large tabs on one side. I hope pressing as I did from the outside will work.😊. Again, excellent video!
My central A/C unit went out and a tech wasn’t able to make it out until the next day. I purchased two units of the same size you have the tutorial on. When I pulled out the instructions I got lost at having to screw it in the window. I paused to watch this video and now it looks like I had a professional install them. Thanks for the package tape idea, worked like a charm. Never knew about the insulation item either. Thanks a bunch!!
Hi great video thanks :) I would also add that if you dont live on the ground floor its better to secure it with screws because if it falls and kills someone below you are liable. Also remove the blue pieces of tape on the corners, and also the one that keeps your slide filter from sliding out. :)
It is preferred to screw the AC in if people are walking below for the risk that you stated. I currently live in a rental and they did not want any screws in the window plastic or trim. Thank you for the comment.
This video was very helpful for me. I was doing it all by myself. Thanks for taking the time step by step for us novices. Now if you can only help me assemble my kitchen buffet rack 🤔
@@tomasvaris8162 Yes, works great. In a 120 sq' home office keeps it at 74 while outside is 95. This allows me to turn up the home ac to 78 during the day while I am in the office. So it may save some money not running the home ac. Kind of like spot cooling just the room i am in.
Thank you for this video. I’m watching someone’s cat while they are out of the country for a year and in return they gave me this ac unit. There were no instructions so I didn’t want to f it up and have it fall out of my second floor apartment window😂😂
I have replacement windows too. Just to clarify - when you close the window on top of the unit , the rail on the top of it is inside the house and the window closes behind it. But the bottom of the unit is on the outside, behind the bottom edge of the replacement window. Is that right? Also how do I get it to tip down outside to drain. Mine is only very slightly tipping down. The instructions say it should be 1/4 inch. I'm estimating mine is less than half that. Thank you.
I did not know how to put a ac unit in the window. I watched this video and I had the ac in the window in less than 10 minutes. Now I am female I had nobody to come put it in so I had to lift and do everything myself. Someone supposed to had put in my window so he lied.
About the two metal protrusions at the bottom front of the unit. Do they stay in front of the window ledge or behind it. Seems that if in front, it helps secure unit in place, but if behind, it allows the unit to be pushed back further.
Thank you for the informative video! I was wondering, would the AC be installed securely even without using screws? I have metal window frames so I wouldn't be able to screw it into place.
I had one unit that did not turn on the compressor (vendor immediately gave me a replacement) and 2 others that worked great. I would suggest plugging them in to see if they work and be able to return them if the unit does not work when you turn it on for 15 minutes.
I didn't see you use any screws, except for the top rail. What about the lock frame & sash lock, to secure the ac to the window? For small unit, will just closing it be ok?
I am installing a Fridgemaster (Hisense) window air conditioner. On the angled top rail only 2 of the 4 line up. Should I drill other holes, I assume on the rail? The instructions that came with my unit were nowhere as clear as yours!
You're the best. Almost in tears bc im so use to being codependent or calling one of my brothers to do stuff. Im learning to be more independent and you made this whole process a lot easier and more fun. Thanks🧚🏽♀️

I had that happen once out of the three units I installed from homedepot.

I just removed the filter to clean it and now I can’t place it back because the thermostat wire is in the way so it only goes in 1/3 of the way
Huh 🤔,,, you got a point there

Good shit!
About the two metal protrusions at the bottom front of the unit. Do they stay in front of the window ledge or behind it. Seems that if in front, it helps secure unit in place, but if behind, it allows the unit to be pushed back further.
The bottom metal sites inside the window ledge where the window would come down. This allows for a better seal when the sides are extended.
thanks i swear its the same ac i bought and our windows are the same one question can you install mine you did such a good job 😆 thumbs up 👍

Great video! Does this unit need a bracket outside to support it?
What sizes screw is used for putting on the bracket on the ac
Quick question the foam inside the air conditioner does it stay there or do we have to take it out
The white foam inside the air conditioner has to stay there as it insulates the room side from the outside.
