    70 Yr old lady from Texas here. I needed to see how to put the ac in-especially those side pieces. I especially loved the part where you had it in the window and you showed us underneath to have that bar up against the window--I watched that part 4 times-made sure I saw what I saw--after that went right to the window and pulled it in tight-put the window down on it. I can't thank you enough.

    Just bought an AC for my window for the first time a few days ago and didn't realize I could drill into the plastic window frame to secure it. Felt like I might have done something wrong so I looked up videos and stumbled across this video. Thankfully I had done everything else pretty much right but I hadn't drilled the screws in...until now. Thanks

    I have installed many window AC units. A few things I do differently are 1) no screws, 1.5" dowels between top of sash and window frame, 2) foam between AC base and window frame to keep bugs out, 3) painters tape on all seams to keep bugs and heat out, 4) make sure AC units tilts downward to allow water condensation to drain. #1 is also a big deterrent to potential burglars.

    We get a lot of spiders in our area so I follow this up with a LOT of clear packaging tape around all of the open spaces, and across both of the baffles, since they can get through there. Last year we had a very large wolf spider try to get through and it got stuck to the tape for a day before getting free ( and hopefully going back to where it came from!)

      I have a wood window and the insulation isn't great.. that's always been a big fear of mine so I do the same thing but I use heavy duty duck tape. I dont care about the paint chipping off my wood window which is why I use such a strong tape. Also before I put my AC in every summer, the day before I make sure to spray around my window with heavy pesticides (I spray around my house a few times a year with a commercial grade pesiticide called Bifen on amazon - check out the reviews and you will be sold and spider free from now on). But obviously spraying the pesticide the day before I put the AC in gives it a chance to dry and detour any nasty crawley things from trying to make their way inside. The stuff I use is so heavy duty that if they did try it they would die before they make it in :)

    find one someone put out in the alley,esp an older whirlpool heavy dog from the 80s and earlier,,disassemble the dog, removing the guts from the housing,tuner cleaner for the inside electronics,,wipe as much dirt as you can reach with a screwdriver and rag pieces,when clean plug it in test all controls,,,,I used the garden hose on mine,,, water caused a large capacitor to short, which I dried out with sun and a fan,resoldered the cap wire into the capacitor,,bingo runs fine,I did also straighten out all the aluminum foil fins on the outside of the unit,,fine saniwipes I taped onto the inside air puller as a filter,as it dries it deodorizes the room air as it cools,the AC is 50 years old and still runs quiet and works well

    See, these new widows fit the unit and baffles so air tight. Im in a very old house with original windows, and storm windows behind them. And the window jam is so large and sets so high, that to not have the AC tipping inside, I have to prop it up on boards and stuff a bunch of foam and fake insulation under the unit, in the window jam.

    After installing many window AC units over the years. Idk why people don’t know the AC unit slides out of the outside metal casing & you can install that piece separate, mount it so it’s secure & then just slide the main AC unit in & ur done! That way it’s not as heavy & if u drop it, you don’t damage the entire AC unit!🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @michaelbills8669
      @michaelbills8669 16 дней назад

      A typical window AC uses 1500 watts of electrical power to pump 12,000 BTUs of heat from the front of the unit to the back of the unit. 12,000 BTUs is roughly 3500 Watts. The electrical energy is transformed into heat, most of which also leaves the back of the AC. So your combined heat flux is about 5000 Watts into your garage... Which is the same as running 4-5 average space heaters in there on full blast.
      So you could do it... But I don't think you'd like it very much.
