      I personally prefer window units because that way I can keep individual rooms at their own individual temperature. I wouldnt want my living room to be the same temperature as my bedroom, for example. I like to sleep in the cold.

    Another nice job. I would suggest using something other than wood to support it on the outside.
    The water condensation would rot it out eventually

    My wife wants AC in our bedroom and we have a horizontal sliding window. As much as this video helped with my concept of how to install, it doesn't resolve my main issue: how to keep security when you basically have a huge opening above the unit in your window.

    Thanks, great video! I have been in my apartment for 8+ yrs and never bothered with AC as I'm at the cottage a lot I don't need AC too often. This yr it's hot in May already, so I grabbed an old unit from my folks' basement. I put it in the back door window and it fit almost perfectly instantly! Just a few little gaps so I duct taped them (can get the foam later if needed). I do need to use an extension cord tho....

      @@WordofAdviceTV Thank you so much. If replacing the fan motor succeeds, I will owe you a debt of gratitude for your instructions. If not, then it's the compressor, which I recall you advise on video that I not try to replace myself. In that case, I'll be sleeping on the floor of the cats' room (I have 2 cats), because I can only afford one window unit, and their sweet souls are the most important. Either way, I appreciate you very much, because if it wasn't for your videos, I would not have had the courage to try the repair myself. That's a huge deal to me.
      After all that, I'll be watching your refrigerator videos. My bottom freezer doesn't freeze, and the fridge part doesn't get cold enough. I tell you, it just never ends!

      Thank you for the concern! Our neighborhood is pretty quiet so we have a few windows that are always open. (just a window screen) So I don't think their first choice would be the air conditioner window. 😅

    window acs are a no brainer during hot seasons i prefer using these than the ac unit at our place due to the high volume of energy consumption and electricity bills skyrocketing, these are always on top to cool off avoid those portable ac units such a waste of money.

      Well at least the video made you laugh. 😄 Let me explain why the security is so lax. Where we live here in Hawaii, breaking into the house through this air conditioner window would be far more difficult than any other window we always keep open. So I really see no point in making it extra secure.

      If you use plywood instead of plexiglass and lock the window you should be fine. (by locking the window I mean putting a pipe or piece of wood in the window track so it can't be opened or use some kind of a window lock.)

      In the house we live in, this would be the hardest window to get in through. 😅 Luckily we live in a peaceful neighborhood so security isn't a big concern.

    • @brelanarchy8023
      @brelanarchy8023 Год назад +1

      @WordofAdviceTV I live in a peaceful neighborhood, too, but burglars drive cars. Burglars typically target "peaceful" neighborhoods. Anyway, I think I'm going portable AC. The window for the room I want to cool is on the front of my house on the second floor. I don't want to drill holes in the stucco and install a shelf for something I really only need for 2 months out of the year. The plexi glass would not have been a problem for the second floor, but the shelf was really the deal-breaker for me. Best of luck.
