    I finished eating my first batch this weekend. I followed the directions to a 'T' and it turned out perfectly. In fact, no separation at all into curds and whey. Naturally, I used the half and half - I don't think I will fool with the perfection. I just did my second batch this afternoon - I expanded the recipe to make 3 qts vice 1 qt. I just added some extra tablets I had plus some starter from the first batch. The 8 qt. Instant Pot Pro will fit 4 qt mason jars - it is advisable to put a small wash rag between the glass bottles. It helps the climate control for the jars not to touch - I learned this when I use to can and ferment lots of foods some years ago. Btw, the process is supriseingly easy and very quick once you have assembled everything. Btw, use 4 qt jars to make 3 qts - always leave space at the top of the jar - never completely full.

    What is confusing is that Dr. Davis says that most people have lost this strain of L. Reuteri, yet when I have read up on L Reuteri some articles claim it is a relatively new strain. To be honest I trust Dr. Davis more than these articles but I would like to understand the discrepancy. Perhaps its just modern awareness of this type of bacteria has newly surfaced so it seems NEW to them? I wonder if the ancient Greeks had L. Reuteri in their systems?

    Hi Dr Davis, my wife and I stated making the reuteri yogurt after watching your video. We love it. However she is allergic to cows milk so now we are making it with goats milk. It comes out very thin although it's good tasting. My question is if it comes out really watery, is it still making a good amount of the reuteri? Or is there less? You said the watery part of the yogurt is even more concentrated with reuteri so we are assuming its okay. What do you say?

  • @atelier27
    @atelier27 Год назад +15

    Question about mixing strains for anyone who knows: I am now making Shirota, L Reuteri, and Gasseri yogurts. I make them separately to get the highest bacteria yields. Does it matter of these are eaten at the same time or should they be spaced apart? Do they compete with one another?
    Also, eating a half cup of full half-and-half yogurt for each may be a bit too much fat, even for me:) Can you ferment longer than 36 hours to get even more bacteria and lower the serving amount?
    I have noticed that the appetite regulation Dr. Davis talks about only happens with the half and half not whole milk so for me anyway, I think the lowered appetite has more to do with eating gobs of fat than the bacteria itself. Just an observation.

    • @mylittlekittens
      @mylittlekittens Год назад +1

      They work together and interact within the human body, so I'd presume they're doing the same thing anywhere else. There are, however, good and bad bacteria those do produce completely different chemicals from each other, compete with each other, and prefer differing environments than one the other.

      You may be on to something here. Without wishing to present this as a randomized control trial I recently embarked on my first try with LR and got some interesting results. I used my Lakeland yoghurt maker (uk brand)and discovered some surprising results. First of all my yoghurt came out thick and delicious despite my suspicion the 38C setting was woefully inaccurate. It may be my individual machine, it does produce lovely Greek yogurt on the standard setting. I'd estimate the actual fermentation temperature was much lower than 38C. So the 64 million dollar question would be if this wasn't LR right out of the gate was there enough residual strains available in the environment or attached to the inulin to produce such a successful result? It begs a further experimentation. Batch 2 was made in an instant pot with some of the previous culture plus a capsule of LR. Again success and this time I was more confident of reaching the optimum temperature conditions. I've just picked up a Luvele Pure from ebay to continue the journey. I'm planning to use my vitamix to make various plant milks for use with LR. Watch this as space.

      @@opdgrow4life Yes, obviously. They are not just not the same strain, but L. reuteri and L. rhamnosus are not even the same species. (You'll even notice the genus designators are different words and spelled differently, although, yes, both start with an 'r' and have three syllables.)
      Other providers of information on health maintenance and improvement make the claim that the presence of L. rhamnosus in the gut provides measurable protection against stress (which isn't one of the salient effects of the strains of L. reuteri that Dr. Davis discusses).
      Since making my original posting asking about "future projects" about two years ago I've realized it's probably best just to consume L. rhamnosus in capsule form. I've also become aware of other probiotics with other beneficial effects, including Akkermansia (which protects the mucus lining of the gut) and Bifidobacterium lactis, which produces a polyamine called spermidine, which is beneficial in effecting healthy longevity. There are others, but I don't remember them offhand. More recently Dr. Davis has released Super Gut, which discusses a variety of beneficial species and strains of probiotics (and I haven't even ordered that book yet).

    I made my first batch in my instant pot. I used Biogia Osfortis because of the much higher CFU count than the Biogia Gastrus, 4 capsules of Osfortis (20 billion CFU's total) with 2 tablespoons of organic inulin in a slurry mixed into 64 ounces of organic whole milk that had been heated to 190° for 20 minutes. Best yogurt I've ever had.
    This is day three and I've noticed a decrease in appetite.
    Does anyone know if this less than, equal or more effective than the Biogia Gastrus?
    Thanks Dr. Davis and everyone.

      @Papa M Jose Yes Papa...It is around $25 for 30 tablets. I don't take them every single day so a box lasts me nearly a month and a half. Also as mentioned by the good doctor, the bacteria count is significantly higher when cultivated in the yogurt. But making the yogurt is problematic for those with time constraints and no (100 degree) yogurt maker. So I am the guinea pig for whether the lower bacteria count is sufficient to help maintain my handsomeness, now that I am officially elderly (65)!! I also use an Oxytocin Spray and between the two I have seen major skin improvements, between healing, much less bruising and a significant lack of facial wrinkles. I think these collagen effects are real. It might have also been beneficial for my musculoskeletal injuries along side the PRP injections I received. Of course the real benefit is suppose to be my gut flora. Too bad I just can't tell this by looking in the mirror...or climbing the local hills!!
