Hey Geebz, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you. I've been watching your channel since you had just started The Decomposer Lounge, and I wanted to tell you how much you've helped me after my Dad passed away 3 Years ago. He was a metalhead too, had an amazing voice and was the frontman of Winterkill, a local Alberta/Saskatoon band that played Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. His favorite bands were Opeth and Kansas, and I was always in the comments saying "Listen to Opeth!" Hahah, I love seeing you're reactions to amazing music. It really was very therapeutic for me. I do the reaction things for over 5 years now and I still love it. Started adding in guitar covers of songs we reacted to on the channel but I still love hearing new music and get excited every time like I did before but now I just record my face listening to it
I love alex's channel. He doesnt have to keep up with the times, he's watching stuff from the 90's. Endless catalog. Also, i love watching his reviews cause i can watch a whole movie in 45 minutes instead of dedicating a whole 2-3 hours to it. His personality is just a huge bonus.

Now because of them I found my favourite bands Like Make them suffer, Northlane, Bad omens, I see stars, imminence, Electric callboy & Galleons among others I have come to love ❤

As a content creator, I want to thank you for this video. As a metal producer, I've noticed how the dynamic of RUclips reactors has evolved over the past few years. It's amazing to see more artists, producers, and engineers getting involved-it's crazy how much the scene has grown! 😄

This thing happens in every 'scene' after a certain point. In gaming, for example, I remember phases when loads of channels that specialized in one particular game started dying off in droves, sometimes because people burned out on the subject, sometimes because interest waned either in the audience or in the creator and they either didn't try or failed to transition into more varied content. Minecraft and WoW youtube in particular come to mind.
The truth is, pigeon holing yourself as a content creator will only cause you pain in the long run.

The biggest gaming RUclipsrs were almost always variety ones (PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, etc). Just do lots of stuff. Personality is the long game. If people like the person, they're more likely to stick around.
this happens to everyone. it isnt just content creators.. everyone gets burnt out of doing whatever they do. most cant afford to do anything about it though unfortunately

Theres some great bands in the metal scene killing it right now with new releases like Vana, The Last Martyr, Kai Cult and Omnific. Metal bands from our lonely continent dont get much exposure and totally deserve more!

And on the actual topic. I think Nik is on point here. I started watching him a few years ago, because i was starting my guitar learning journey. Covers with tabs, "10 hardest riffs" and "10 levels of..." and etc, - those kinds of videos helped me grow a lot and a lot. But after I got good enough on guitar and started exploring new instruments the interest for those videos was fastly declining, and then I started enjoying Nik's reactions and reviews. They introduced me to an exciting amount of new bands, genres and sounds. So, after all, I'd say it is a good thing when we can enjoy different stuff coming from the same favourite creator.

Creators must create value themselves to survive long term. Reactions can be fun, but you’re getting people in the door using someone else’s work and trying to add some value. It’s just not sustainable.
That’s why Lost In Vegas has a great formula going. They react to rap, rock, metal, country, classic, alternative, and they provide in depth breakdowns of everything they listen to.
Yes! Never get tired of them after all these years. Great dudes.

I’ve seen time and time again reaction channels get stuck into a single genre and slowly die off. Even if the content remains the same quality, either the music in the scene slows or people get bored of someone reacting to the same type of things.
Whether it’s metal, rap, anime, gaming, opera, etc. it will eventually get old. It’s important to do more than just reactions, and possibly reach out to different genre as to react to.
Thanks Nik! I had the exact same experience with content. Doing only one type of content really killed me inside, especially for 2+ years. Even harder to branch out when your audience expects one type of content from you or when you test new content, it never performs well. Happy it worked out for you!
There is a growing body of creators over multiple spaces that have pulled the pin in the last 12 months. The notion that RUclips can keep treating these people has disposable is unsustainable.
I get it. I stopped podcasting mid-2021 in the middle of the pandemic because I was burnt out - “How’s it been at home?” got so old.
Back at it, and it feels so good. Ten episodes in and booking banger after banger.
I've been wating to start a yt channel to get my art out there. But I can't produce art that often, so I've been thinking I could do other stuff related to the type of art I make. I make alt/horror/trippy art, and I was thinking I could review horror themed stuff, or just talk about weird shit. But idk if it's a good idea
I say do it!! The worse that could happen is you spend time doing things you’re passionate about and it doesn’t gain traction.
But alas, it’s stuff you’re interested in so why not try!

The good news is there are some quality metal channels on the come up .. not as many with an entertainment focus, but definitely ones around songwriting/production/mixing etc
I love Nik's content because its so varied, not in spite of it. I'm never bored watching Nik Nocturnal content.

Speaking of branching out I've started watching other reacts that don't just focus on metal or deathcore and as a viewers perspective I feel like I get burnt out with metal/deathcore etc so started watched different reacts and it's a nice change but of course it's all in the music taste you have but it's good discovering different genres that you wouldn't at first think that you would like but then it. Happens and you really get into it... That's the beauty of music.
As a "content creator" I'm very fortunate that I dip my hand in many different things.
I mainly do reactions to Metal, but I am also a solo artist, I do vocal covers, I make gaming content etc.
So it's nice for me when I get bored/stressed with one of them because I can put more energy into another.
i hope bogdan comes back soon. hes such a good guy and i hope him nothing but the absolute best.

There is a lot of pressure when it comes to the metal react scene. Between algorithm and trying to keep to what you enjoy. I understand why Rachelle Reacts quit RUclips. I understand why Bogdan feels the way he does. Even Drew Fortune has stepped away from music reactions a bit and is doing gaming.

I found this channel when I really something to focus on, and it became a great thing for me to look forward to every weekend! I then found others but I've always come back to Nik. I'm sad that this is happening to a lot of my favorite reactors, but I totally get it! I'll always come back to you though! Have a happy day!
Honestly you are my favourite metal content creator because you only cover what you want to cover and do what you want because it FUN! I watch all these other youtubers and I only know they giving me reactions but still watch them because they are talented
It's all creators at this point.
The overall theme is how bad RUclips and RUclips leadership is treating creators and their channels. You learn about how some channels get their content hidden from viewers and how some other channels get their content boosted by RUclips. It's not a level playing field.
Bogdan has a second channel where just plays city skylines and it’s great. Hope he comes back soon!
It Happened with me for sure, I used to have a Gaming channel but I felt boxed in and then I lost interest in games for the most part. Because I felt boxed in I just stopped doing RUclips all together because I felt like I couldn’t do anything else
Nik is the only music/metal channel I'm interested in. It's easy enough to find new music through other avenues and music channels just aren't that interesting to me as a non-musician.
That's why I purely do it for fun when I want to. No attachment, no expectations. Just release a video when I want :D
This spoke to me so hard! I just started this channel this year and already the burnout is setting in, and I don't even post all that much! Lol. The community keeps me going though. There's definitely a fair share of bad eggs (especially on Insta) but the ones that keep coming back make it worth it!

even myself as a reactor, it isnt fun anymore, and I feel like other reactors will agree we all are getting burnt out. It's the same old same old nothing is crazy going on right now. Also everyone I've seen on react youtube and creators just put out only "the good reactions/good songs" like nothing critcital or anything cause you will get flammed for any opinion that isn't good in the metal community apparently.
Ignore the noise. Stay true to yourself. Nowadays people are so polarized in everything. Sometimes it’s better to put the blinders on a bit and don’t feed the negative. It took me too many years to realize that it’s ok to like what I like and I don’t care if others agree.
But here’s the deal, some of these people better find another avenue because no one wants to watch the sane thing over and over again for years with no expansion.

We love doing metal reactions but it’s so hard to keep up with reacting to new music and trying to react to what our audience is asking for 😢 all while having a full time job and a family to take of 😅 anyways no complaints about the hustle just know what you mean! Another huge part of the decline is that everybody is completely back to normal living again. During Covid the reaction scene blew up because everybody was home and could watch RUclips. Now it’s a little harder to make people wanna watch when they already have so much stuff to do. And tbh the reaction format hasn’t really improved so it’s kind of being left in the dust now

I think the problem is all the copyright issues with music. It causes people with good ideas to give up on RUclips bc they know they can't make any money.
Reaction was THE youtube meta for a few years, and as every meta it is just temporary, people are getting tired of that, and the current state of modern metal doesn't help either...

Hey Nik, I've thought about doing RUclips videos but I have no idea what kind of content to do! It is so saturated with a lot of stuff I'm actually interested in I'm afraid I'd just get lost in the fray especially when I'd be the "new kid on the block" so to speak, no pun intended. There are so many OG's like you, Stevie, Jared, Anthony, Austin, Bradley, etc. As you mentioned some of them are leaving RUclips because of being demonetized, another one I'm not sure you watch or pay any attention to Professor of Rock for instance is losing his ground with RUclips, they're suppressing his videos for one reason or another. I don't get it, don't understand it. RUclips has gone just as corporate of any other job I can think of. Whether it's RUclips itself or their advertisers I don't know. I watch videos from even a year or two ago where cussing isn't bleeped but still got ad revenue as far as I know and now you have to bleep it out or you get no ad revenue at all. Hell you'd probably be lucky to even get a sponsor! What happened, what the hell changed? Again is it RUclips, the advertisers, some combination of both because so many people now get offended so easily from STUPID SHIT!!! Yup, I said it and I'll say it again if a bit differently this time. People get fucking offended because of RIDICULOUSLY STUPID SHIT!!! The questions are what changed and why? People used to laugh at stupid ass jokes and comedians such as Sam Kinison, George Carlin, Richard Pryor and so on. If they were alive and still doing their acts today they would be cancelled like Jack Black...which again is ridiculous!! Jack can be cringe but I still don't think he had anything to do with what Kyle Gass said or knew what Kyle was going to say ahead of time. It would have been a funny joke but was said waaaaaaayyyyyy too soon!! I mean at least wait 6 months to a year, not a day or two after the fact when it's still fresh in everyones minds! I mean seriously two rally goers were put in critical condition and a family man (also being a firefighter) died trying to protect his family?!!! Can we say UUUUHHH DUUUUUUHHHH???!!!! Some of it I get but there's so much I have no clue at all. As well how does copyright claiming work? You do a reaction video to a movie, a song or whatever and your video is demonetized or taken down because of copyright claims. I understand it's not really the bands or actors or whomever, it's the record or movie companies. It's free fucking publicity and they're going to copyright claim you? I don't understand that shit either, like WTF is going on?!!! These are the reasons I decided to work out of the home for a liquor store that doesn't appreciate me or any other any other keyholder or associate does for them. They won't give us full-time so they don't have to pay for benefits, they cut our hours to the point we can't survive without a second job or just force us to get other jobs altogether. Whatever the case may be it sucks all the way around no matter how you look at it. That's my rant and I guess you can call them hot takes, call it what you want.
I remember watching a video Tank put up a while back where he said he was burned out on doing reaction videos all the time. I completely understand because I got burned out on watching them. It's fun once in a while but I don't enjoy it every day like I did during the pandemic.
Weird that it's happening when Metal itself (in all subgenres) is the strongest it's been in a long time!

Nik pretty much nails it, and it's not only new or good music, but for reactors it's songs that are good for reactions. Ulcerate just dropped arguably the metal album of the year, but every one of those tracks is long and dense and doesn't make good content for a concise and tight reaction video. Hell even Fantano called in back up to cover that album. Take a lesson from sports, there's offseason and preseason content and you have to figure out how to make that stuff just as interesting as in season content, that's just the ebb and flow of things.

Yeah variety is great. If I started a Metal RUclips channel to begin with, I'd also being doing Goth (industrial and darkwave mainly) music stuff too. I'd probably do guitar, bass and synth stuff. Also a little bit of folk stuff like Ravn, minimal Heilung type tuff and Witcher 3 style music.
I am a reactor for my german audience and I can totally relate what he's saying. But sometime you need to branch out and discover other genre which you aren't familiar with to discover new music which you like.

Branch out :) Nic you totally do that.. Different content is not a bad thing for the viewers, atleast not most of us. I can understand someone getting burnt out. I remember a time music sucked, especially the metalcore scene. I feel like we are getting into that territory again D: sucks.
I find myself drifting off from the heavy stuff consistently and get into other things that are actually good with your mind open

I have been wondering why has metal reactions slowly disappeared from my RUclips.
Metal could benefit from adding positive lyrics, that’s why country music has skyrocket.
I find myself moving further and further away from metal because I’m not angry all the time. I can relate to living in negativity when that’s all my music can relate to.
This could be a poor opinion on my part but, don't get me wrong there have been some great releases this year, but the last two years before this just seems much more loaded with new music for these channels to feed off of. This year has just been a little EHHH for LP releases and major announcements.
The burnout is real. Seen this happening a lot with so many...myself included. Definitely trying other things is important but even with that you need to get the balance...otherwise we will all end up disappearing for a year - yes ive done that 3 times now haha
Trends are come and go. If you can adapt, or you can keep your originality interesting, you will stay somewhat popular. If not, you change either your content, or yourself. both is bad.
I didn't see anyone pointing that out but isn't Alex a lawyer? He must've found a loophole in RUclips's tos or something.

The primary problem is with how the algorithm functions. It doesn't like you to be all over the place with your content. If you post the same kind of content, and do it on a regular basis, you get promoted more.
At least, that is what I've gathered from my experience with it. Not claiming to be an expert. I'm sure plenty of YTers know way more about it.

Well that's just youtube and honestly society nowadays buddy. People will try anything to get extra dimes or popularity, even if it means doing the same thing. I don't think it is yours or anyone's say in what one should do with their channel.

Nothing against the creators, but I think it's the side effect of being in a space that is focused a lot more on "current" trends, that like everything else, has been influenced by the Tiktok craze. It's the same with the gaming side, if there's not a quick hit, it drops off hard, and then that avenue for growth gets cut out like a mole. I feel the burnout in myself too, 22 was cool because I was coming back to the scene, and I was organically finding bands that fit me, and then 23 rolls around, and it was honestly way too much at times, and I didn't give myself enough time to digest each album, now it's 24, and I feel the drop in quality, found my gems from the year, but overall, it's just not as exciting.
The problem with Bogdan content is that it's only reactions and very small amount of vocal covers(which is very good sounding from him)
