      I like your style and there is little to criticize. You are bigger and younger than me but I throw my 16 pound ball harder than you because bowling is a game that respects power.

    Dude definitely has awesome timing. I wish I had that timing. The only thing I saw in the video, other than what was mentioned, is that you could see his ball from behind. This is a great series!

    Great stuff, as always. I have a couple of questions about keeping the index finger stiff against the ball: First, where should I apply the pressure? Should I just put pressure on my fingertip or apply even pressure over the length of my finger? I just worry a bit about grabbing the ball too much. Second, should I keep that pressure constant through my entire swing and release, or do I release the pressure as I'm about to release the ball, or maybe just before that? Thanks again for these helpful videos!

      Hi die7fox, I will try my best to answer your questions! Perhaps someone will be able to add on to my answers.
      Where should I apply the pressure? Should I just put pressure on my fingertip or apply even pressure over the length of my finger?
      Generally you want to apply pressure to the pad or fingertip of your index finger to 'lock' your wrist in place. If you grab your bowling ball and cup your wrist push the ball down a little and you'll find that your wrist isn't typically that strong in that position. Now if you apply pressure to your index finger and push down a little you'll see your wrist becomes much stronger than the first with out pressure. This is what we are trying to accomplish when applying pressure to the index finger.
      I just worry a bit about grabbing the ball too much.
      Grabbing the ball is not the same as applying pressure to your index finger. Grabbing the ball would be more of a result of your ball not fitting right (pitches, thumb to big, etc.) not because you're applying pressure to your index finger. You should be able to swing your ball and not worry about the ball falling off your hand with minimal pressure with your thumb, middle and ring finger.
      Second, should I keep that pressure constant through my entire swing and release, or do I release the pressure as I'm about to release the ball, or maybe just before that?
      You will want to keep pressure on your index finger through your entire swing to keep your wrist strong until you hit the 'flat spot' of your swing.

      Pressure on index finger will lock the wrist in a loaded position, when you get to the bottom of your swing at your flat spot, release the index finger and unload your wrist. One step and no step drills can help that process feel smoother for you. Thanks for your input and your question

    I’m not one to usually comment, but watching your videos helps me a lot! But I still make those damn mistakes!! Do you do private lessons? And if so! You seem to me that your out of “Jib lanes”? Bowling alley? Watching Joe”s approach looks great and then when here releases with the elbow out and the hand on the side of the ball that’s my problem! I do the one step drills and no step drills and still have the same issue when I release

    You know people. I myself quit bowling seriously 20 years ago, and I quit buying balls altogether, and I just kept the Balls that I already had when I had a whole foot to use to bowl with --- it was amputated. I didn't feel the need anymore to keep-up with the commission that really makes rules, but yet they don't really care if you do good or not because they are mainly about money: the whole industry is. So I just quit wasting money on it.
    but I would advise anybody to just accept the lack of Strikes because the "Uncertainty Heisenberg" proves that you can't have a certainty of a strike even if you get a good carry for the lane conditions, and then you get just the right amount of hook to come in the pocket there is no certainty of getting a strike. Si it's better to have total confidence in not striking so much maybe. Just have fun, and hate strikes is my model.

    I have been bowling so long (43 years) I couldn't change if I wanted to. I don't know if my timing is off but whenever someone takes a video of me I am embarrassed and say that looks like an awful old man throwing that ball. A couple months ago I got videoed on a strike in the 12th for a 300, but I still looked awful and wouldn't want to submit my video to Mr. Art of Bowling for public display. My style is just standing at the very back of the approach on the desired board with a 16 pound hook machine and go. Depending of the alley that allows me to get in the two teens or 220s, which isn't terrible at age 65.

    • @ArtOfBowling
      @ArtOfBowling  2 года назад +2

      Change is always possible in some form or another, but if you’re still throwing 300’s at your age, maybe don’t change anything 😁

      @@ArtOfBowling It's the ball! I got an Axiom Pearl and in the last four months I have shot a 300, 298, 289, 280, and a bunch of 700s. That is the kind of easy change I like. All it took was money.

    Every professional I watch and the 3 that I have had lessons from all say that your foot should stop first to gain solidity with your legs then swing thru (yes, late timing) not the "old school" finish at the same time. Why the difference here?

    • @ArtOfBowling
      @ArtOfBowling  2 года назад

      that is neutral timing at the ankle means very little there are some very good pros including Tommy Jones who have early timing..at the ankle is not a great place to judge timing...just happened that Joe's timing is where old school would judge his timing...leveraged timing is a thing not a good or bad thing.
