Modo looks amazing
Andy, there was a longer video on replicators with the example from 4:44 (the roof). Could you please send a link to the video. I cannot find it anymore.
Having recently purchased Modo 801 & mesh fusion. It would great to have some more tutorials on using both for arch vis, and larger objects such as the truck shown in the video.
Thanks for the feedback, please drop us an email so we can get your ideas straight to the team :) content@thefoundry.co.uk
The Foundry Hi, will send an email. Thanks.
Great video
unbelievable, i may convert after watching this video
loved those macros ...to make hotkeys....which is not that much easier in blender as well as the slicing options......and tweaking falloffs in blender is cumbersome....plus those awesome planes aligning with the surfaces of geometry....which is not there by-default in blender
MODO + SolidWorks = WINNER!
solidworks is op
Can I get an honest comparison to blender 2.81 (2.8) because I love blender and I learned to model with Max, but this looks awesome especially for being so old. Vfx based btw
Instantly recognized Scott Robertson's work...
aha me too, what a legend!
can you please make a walkthrough in modo of Building or a house
I have wasted so much time in Max/Maya...
are you using this tool right now? I would like to hear your opinion.
@@dlalleman3874blender better
@lalybum There is an addon called retopoflow for blender. It does similar job
@@oceanperch why
@@oceanperch Blender's a piece of shit.
Hey i just noticed that you probably got one of the designers names wrong i'm pretty sure that the hotrod and the sci fi looking truck designs were created by Scott Robertson not Scott Robinson
3:26 Mind blown. That said, I don't want to learn new app from scratch when I know Maya well already. But I will get familiar with it to do a few tasks, maybe.
Wow!
And we're still using max at uni :'( cri
just started learning modo, are there any good tutorials you guys recommend ? I have watched a few last week, and none of them talked about even half of what this video shows...
Same f. problem :/ The only tutorial i can truly reccomend is Sunglasses Modeling but it's for basic and in modo 501.
Andrzej M thanks for the recommendation will check it out. today I found this one www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/1061/3D-Look-Development-in-Modo#.VAALgrxdW80
so far its good but I have watched very little of it.
brutecold Andrzej M Hi there, we'd love to hear your feedback on what you would like to see us create tutorials for :) if you have any ideas drop us an email at: content@thefoundry.co.uk. Thanks!
The Foundry will send an email. but would be great to have a tutorial creating models for games using the modeling features from this video, some very simple stylized character with props or a vehicle (a car or helicopter) for games.
Maybe thats too much to ask, but its really hard to find tutorials, and this would help a lot.
thanks

Want to destroy Autodesk ? then get Tor Frick to do tutorials explaining his workflow..
Seriously, I have not seen anybody in the games/film industry using his methods yet: Using the smooth edge shader to bypass the highpoly modeling phase can be an extreme time safer.
Why is a software 6 years ago better than the latest versions of Autodesk or blender? It seems bizarre how Nobody talks about this?
Better is a relative word. This software is basically lightwave 2.0 and it comes with a bunch of the same problems lightwave has/had. Did they ever add a modeling history stack like Maya/XSI have/had? That feature alone saved me about 2 weeks of work in XSI when I found a problem in middle of working on an animation. I was able to go back and fix the problem without redoing all the other work that came after it. The power of programs like Maya and XSI (and MAX?) is that they allowed companies to create a lot of internal workflows without relying on the software developers to create everything for them. Last I heard (many years ago) Modo was still lacking an SDK.
As for all the people getting excited about the things he was showing off, I was doing most of this in XSI a decade ago. They didn't have dedicated tools for it all (which usually end us with a mess of different but similar tools, ala Lightwave), but instead gave you the ability to use the more general tools in multiple ways. Snapping in XSI could be used to retopo a model or snap model to the surface of another model by just enabling snap. You could also project a mesh onto another one the way they show in this video. Clones are also nothing new.
Better than Blender? yeah right....
EndCredits: "Scott Robinson" @Foundry?! :D I guess someone slipped on the keyboard!
Is it possible to create car mods for GTA V with this software?
yes
This program will save me a lot of time , but theres any legit tutorials , to learn the basic at least?
3:23 and 4:02 for the people who do retopo in maya like me...
My god incredibly
ive been tried c4d, zbrush, and blender all software make me confused...now?? theres lightwave, modo, 3d max...god...!!! where i should learn first
+ilove yourgirl the industry standard stuff. In college we used Maya and Max, but IMO once you have learned how to model and the techniques involved, using different packages because easier
You could try Andrew Price's Anvil tutorial for Blender. It covers pretty much all parts of the process and it would help you get the shortcuts. If you want to work with 3D on a company I suggest you focus on a industry standard like C4D, Maya or Modo later on.
So..Modo, blender, maya, 3ds max and C4d, if there is a most essential list of 3D program to learn out of these programs, how would u guys rate it, like in top 3 or top 5, why is the reason, and as a newb like me which one do you suggesst?
+Khairul Anam Try MODO yourself over here: www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/modo/trial/
no, MODO is a mesh modelling application. it's not parametric and it can't do engineering studies.
It would depend on what do you want to do. Although I'm not quite comfortable with it's workflow, Modo is great in modeling. Maya is getting better but still a PITA, clumsy to work with but very widely used. 3DS Max also has it's market but I don't like it's modifier stack system and I find it a little slow.
If you are going to work in modeling, remember that you can model in anything you want and import it from the software you need to use. (Ex: Model in Modo and convert it to MAX before delivering it to your client).
If you need complex rigs, animations, or simulations, that change. You can't export and import those and you'll have to work on that software from the beggining.
My favorite software is still Softimage. And I have to use Maya for work, and Max sometimes and I hate them (to be fair, I still don't like it but Maya is getting better). I only have little experience with Modo but I'm willing to try it again when the old Softimage can't keep up.
I've got no experience with Blender or C4D. Blender would be a good option if you just want a hobbie. C4D has a good reputation in Motion Graphics, and being very easy to learn, but that's all I know about it.
I'm agree with frkkz, that it depend on what you want to do. Maya is the best for rig and animation, MODO is the best for modeling, ZBrush is the best for sculpting and Autocad's are for Architects
and what if I use Modo to modelling then import to maya, and make animation to it? Is it possible?
yah get Tor Frick to show how modo can change the game
I have uninstalled max and maya now😂
My reaction everytime he showcased a tool: wooah, wooooah, wtf, jesus, joooo
4×maya=2×modo=blender for modeling
After solidworks, this seems not usefull for me
wait, 2014?!
Things have advanced a lot in Modo since then, it's pretty amazing today
@@JazzPractice it looks like modo was pretty awesome for it's time even then
what a fucking beast !
I love 3d max
wow! so much crap! to make something! where is the love!?
20 years using CInema4D and it has the same tools as always, it's incredible and very dissapointing that 2014 Modo is far, far better than Cinema 4D from 2022.
I Love this Program ... MAYA/MAX is trash XD
Softimage had these same tools and almost identical workflow many years ago... nothing new. Too bad Autodesk bought it and killed it :/
So has MODO. This is not new.
MODO's modelling tools as demonstrated here in this video have been around for more than 10 years.
Looks like a great modeling app to be honest... I'm considering giving it a try now that I'm looking to move away from Soft
Actually Modo's loop select behaviors are poorly engineered. They are unpredictable and often over select geometry resulting in the need to do a lot of deselection. It's a pain.
What do u suggest, which program has the best loop select?
MODO
fuck it , Autodesk all the way
Good. Stick with Autodesk.
I'm here for the MODO community. At least MODO users don't trash talk.
So yeah, stay there :D
If Autodesk had bought and killed this crash fest of a software instead of XSI, the world would be a better place.
meh , that UI is worse than zbrush
I cant even express my hatress for modo. I can see the appeal on some no profesional users, but it is a very ygly unstable programme especially on very large scene. 3ds max blender rarely crash in my pc but modo is garbage. i used it for a month and hated every aspect of it, even the tools cants be compared to max and blender. Just delete it should be vanished from this planet.
