2009 Ducati 1198S
Congrats! I own the same bike. With stock exhaust. Absolutely love it! Best part for me is not just the power and thunder of the engine, its the noise when the engine is driven warm and you close the gas. Then the air-intake sounds like the breathing of a dragon. Topped with bubbling grumblings from the exhaust... sorry for my bad english. Greetings from germany!
Thank you posting this. I bought my red 2009 Ducati 1198S new and it remains my pride and joy. I enjoy the challenge of both riding and maintaining this work of art. I too have the upgraded larger diameter exhaust system with pre-tuned race chip.
Fuel hose: The degradation of the small flexi hoses within the fuel tank is another common fault. After a few years, the hose swells and simply falls off within the tank, leaving the rider stranded.
Timing belt replacement: The service manual shows a timing belt replacement is needed at 12,000km or 24 months, whichever comes first. I'm doing my first now at 6,000 km and 13years of aging. The only sign of deterioration in thee kevlar belts was 2mm of stretch. No evident of cracking perishing. With no automatic belt tensioning system, I can see why frequent checking and re-tensioning is needed. With each cam pulley, able to loosened during tensioning while the cam pairs are locked together via a cam lock tool, surely complete replacement should be longer than 24 months.
Brilliant video set.
Greetings from NZ
Whaaat?????? 5k for this beauty??? I can't BELIEVE IT...you have conclude the best deal i 've ever seen
The Ohlin’s, Brembo’s, Termi, and forged wheels are worth that price alone.
Seeing a review of this bike on your chanel actually made my day!
Insanely sick bike for the money. I was seeing these pre-covid with similar condition for $6000 as well.
I had a 848...watch out for the voltage regulator, they are positioned near the exhaust and get heat damage. The fuel pump clamps also need to be replaced...they tend to get loose and leave you stuck.
Good to know, thanks!
Been wrestling with selling my RSV to fund a 1198s for a while, but came to the conclusion I can't ride it any faster on the road so it's on ice. Lovely bikes, and sounds like you got quite the deal! Will be following with interest.
A Barnett clutch basket, or any basket with stainless steel inserts will quiet the clutch down and last alot longer and not get grooved from the clutch plate tabs like the OEM basket. Great looking bike.
I've been eyeing the Barnett basket and pairing it with a slipper clutch. Hmm...
Barnett plates are also aluminum which quiets it down more and is less wear prone to the basket.
@@shawnl1509 good to know! Happen to know what a set of those runs?
@@PracticalEnthusiast Barnett's website lists the plates for 225 and the basket for 270. You will also need a clutch hub holder tool for replacement, easy to find on Amazon etc.
@@shawnl1509 thanks for that. I'll put it on the list!
The forks are better that way, better trail. But you have to raise the back also. Depending how you like suspension comp rebound. Set your preloaded front 35 to 40 and rear 25 to 30. I run mine at 30 30 and raised stick like shit to a blanket. Before I did all research and adjusting it had a lack of front end feel.
I was actually actually thinking about buying this actual bike , but you beat me to it! I can't believe you got it down to 5 grand! Nice job!
No kidding! Small world!
@@PracticalEnthusiast Yeah I ended up getting an old 07 Aprilia RSV1000R instead. Maybe I will see you at the track. ( I thinik I seen you on the 996 a few years back at Heartland. ( we were in different groups , but seen you in the paddock)
Watching this makes me want to cry. I recently got a 1098 for $7800. You got such a good deal!!
Looking forward to the series. Looks like a great project bike. I'm interested to see what you do specifically to make it (at least part time) a track bike.
Sweet! That Ducati is lucky to be adopted by you 👌🏻
What a great follow up series after the multistrada. Cant wait for pt.2. Ive had a 1098 for a few years and can tell you they're a joy to wrench on. Pro tip? Dzus fastener conversion kit for the fairings. The std setup is overkill.
Having taken the fairings off this twice now, I can fully appreciate upgrading to Dzus fasteners. I'll have to put that on the list.
I'm shopping for one right now but I'm definitely not gonna get a deal like yours. Congrats!
Awesome video! Have been a long time fan of 1198 (but I own a Gen 1 Diavel instead).
And I have a feeling that older trellis-framed Ducati will become a modern classic and collector's item, as Ducati is starting to drop their hallmark features one by one in their new bikes (which is sad).
Video like this helps potential owners clear the myth of Ducati reliability.
Waiting for your next video.
Yes there’s a catch. It’s an 1198. Ducati clearly spent a significant amount of time making a magnificent racing bike. But spent about 20 minutes thinking about the electrics that support the lights etc for the consumer variant. You will be replacing the voltage regulator more than you update your wardrobe unless you relocate it or wrap your header pipes in aluminium insulation. Keeping the battery in tip top condition with a trickle charger is also highly recommended.
1:24 No sir, this is an 1198s. Much better than a Monster.
Love the ducati restoration series man! keep it up!!!
For me the Ducati v2 is the same as Viper GTS! Nothing sounds as good as the two. Very special
Damn you got a steal on it!! They’re going for $10k- $12k with under 13k miles
Really? I found one on Marketplace right now for $5500 only has 3,800 miles on it
This is gonna be Gooood. nice find.
I have a multistrata and am looking for a 1198 to go with it now
the 1198s also came out in pearl white , i have one these bikes do have quirks what bike doesnt ? great fun to ride
What a great sound!
Last Ducati beauty, nice 👌 👍
I'm glad you aren't more popular. You would be driving up the price on all these bikes on my 'list' haha.
5 grand? You got the best of the bargain. Congrats.
ah dude i would totally get that too, will be a lot of fun on the track
That is a gorgeous motorcycle
Diablo Supercorsas or Dunlop Q4s are the only tires to shod those wheels with. You want grippy tires with all that torque, that won’t confound your TC. Both are great in the rain with 5-7K miles of wear unless you live in the canyons...then it’s 3-5K. If you want tire life, buy a GS.
Seems I see allot of these bikes online, people just don't keep up on the service for them and u can them on the. Cheap but it will need 2 to 3k to fix if u don't do it yourself.
Looking at a 2009 Ducati 1198s now... $7900 9k miles... dunno service info yet? What does it need now due to the miles?
Very cheap price. Great find
This kind of Music is best played LOUD
The catch is it's an 1198! These have a plethora of electrical issues due to the bikes running temperatures. VR's fry. Stators fry. Connectors and wires melt. Sort all that out and it should have plenty of riding enjoyment.
What a deal. Damn.
Can you please tell me what kind of solvent do you use to clean the swingarm and engine
I used S100 and rinsed well with water.
@@PracticalEnthusiast thank you
Nice bike
Those bikes go for at least $10k. Either it needs major service w/salvage title and you live in a bad market
Had a chance to get a 1098 Tricolor for 6k, I should have bought it! You stole that 1198S for 5K....
I started looking for a 748... as I have about 100k miles of experience on 600cc bikes. I'm now looking at 1198's... the justification? Traction control, abs? Yes.... *edit* I now know there is no abs.
Doesn’t seem cheap, about fair I think. I bought my 11 just a couple days ago with no mx work required. Infact I got a good 5000 miles before I need to worry about anything. And it’s cosmetically perfect. AND AND I somehow got it from a dealership
The mx work is a few grand in of itself
I went from here to Facebook Marketplace. It would make Ducati #3.
Don't get Yr shoe laces caught in the clutch
I was here just to listen to the dry clutch.
5k? eff you! 😂
give me one
Uhm, there is no episode 2.
There is! I have now added it to the end screen (or check out the 1198 playlist).
Yeah your legs will be on fire
