I don’t know if this comment will ever be seen by the creator of this video but I watched this video when it first came out 13 years ago and it has stuck with me for the longest time. I’m happy to report that I’ve finally reached a place in my life where I can afford a beautiful machine like this, I’m now a proud owner of a Panigale V2 Bayliss. You have no idea how much this video has meant to my personal journey to attain a bike like this. Thank you for the amazing content.
Yep. Seriously great review. Looking to upgrade to an 1198s and thought this was a outstandingly informantive and comprehensive overview. Well done. AAA+++
i just wished all reviews were like this one. This was informative and engaging. I learned about the bike and what it has to offer. Thanks for the great review
Spectacular review! Thx. feel the same way about the 1198. Wish I could buy one. Just the engine sound and dry clutch and valve clatter is worth buying the bike for.
one of the best reivew's iv seen ... surely going on my favourite list . i love ducati and i love this bike .. and now i love it even more ... thanks for the video.. cheers
I'm lucky enough to own this bikes little brother, the 848 evo. It has been nothing but magnificent. The only gripe i personally have is the fuel "leak" issue that I'm happy to live with just to have this beast of a bike in my possession. Am I a masochist..maybe. I'll say this, riding around town and through the mountains..there's not a day that goes by where people don't have that "what the hell was that" look on their faces as i cruise by. If it werent for a smoked visor, my grin would be easily visable. LOVE DUCATI!
that was a fantastic review. always loved the Ducati sound. hot damn! now I am really tossing up between the S1000RR and the 1198 for a next bike. does the 1198 have the option of a quickshifter?
@UltraSWG Ducati asked that the twins be given more CC's because to make a 1L twin as powerful as the I4's would be very expensive. In racing nowadays they are cutting cost everywhere so privateer teams can afford to race as well. It's a give and take, the I4's have more top end and the twins have more tq down low but sacrifice top end power. There is a 50mm restriction plate as well. in 2010 the ducs had to carry a weight ballast as well to further equalize the bikes.
This is one of the best bike reviews I've seen on RUclips. And the best one about the best bike too. I just happen to own an 1198S, its an awesome bike!!! (and its true about the wierdo drooling on it, that was funny)
@UCMolosser ok cool..thank you....so the 1198 is better on overall performance.....but the gas is better on 848.....one more thing.....do u know how long a 848evo can last on a full tank of gas..(MPG)?? thanks again
a friend of mine got this exact bike and he was 6 foot. i'm 6'2" and we both have no trouble planting both feet at all. seat height is around 32 inches i believe.
@TheEurasia23 I own and 1198s and I think it's good at everything. Forget comfort, i've found your body soon gets used to the riding position. I've done over 500 miles in a day on mine. I guess it depends on what you can afford and what takes your fancy. The 1198 isnt for going slow. if you plan on sitting in traffic or trickling along a 10 mph then your end up getting very hot and the bike is doing about 10 mph with clutch fully released. If you like to get a move on its an awsome machine.
@UltraSWG Its amazing how little most know about engines. There is no power advantage for the cc because it only has 2 cyclinders where others has four. Hp = torque x revs. A four cylinder for the same cc makes more power but it needs high revs to make its power. the twin makes less power but has a better spread of power across the revs. Its just a character really. Note that the racing 1198 actually uses 50 mm air restrictors to try and make things equal. Ducati has usable power not maxium.
@gizmag how tall was the guy riding the Ducati? He was easily able to plant both feet on the road at a light. Im 6 foot. Would i be able to do the same? And whats the seat height? Thanks
@ShAwNeXsHeN There is no bad points really in my opinion Its extremely powerful at any revs but at the same time extremely smooth plus it got traction control as a back up in case you make mistake. Its suprizingly good on fuel if you can reisit twisting the throttle. I've had about 50 mpg out of mine, although the tanks small. It handles impecably. It got the bsb control tyre and ohlins suspention, it turns easy and loves to be leaned with impecable stability. The brakes are phenominal + feel.
i feel like i em one with my r1. accurate cornering. love the sound of the hi rpm. on the straight.. with the ducs. its like. everything is so stiff. im fighting with the lean angle. as i take the corners. sounds like a supper moped diesel engine on the straight. red lines at 10k rpm. i only had the ducs for about 3 months i think i still need to spend few more seat time with it. hangin off the ducs is a bit hard for cause of the very slim gas tank. even with stomp grip i feel like its useless.
@UltraSWG Its not a myth, its airflow. Based on the amount of air sucked into the engine but it didn't equalize the torque. Ducati did indeed win with the same cc with the 999 but it was tuned dramatically. Its truely hard to compair the two different engines. They try to equalize two different characters. Twin works well on some tracks and fours on others. Lets face it Torque is well known for winning races.
Hey guys I'm really new to motor cycles and I want to buy a motorcycle that good for everyday use like going to work/school etc. Are there any brands and models you guys/gals would recommend? I drool over these ducatis but for a first bike I'd be unsure of getting one since I'd be using it every day .
fuck me this is a good review mate . Do some more, people need to take note from you bro. This is well done, great humour. well put together dude flows well cheers
@JeffSemperFidelis thats ok. Thanks for saying thanks. A lot of people make the mistake of buying a really big bike like a hayabusa because of stats but when they get into the corners things can get a bit hair not to mention slow. good luck with your choice.
@benjyboba It's amazing that people still buy into the myth that 2 cylinders with 20% more displacement is equal to a 4 cylinder with 20% less. The advantage was so clear that the Japanese started making 2 cylinder engines to compete with Ducati and Super Bike had to implement even more restrictions to the class to stop it from being a ridiculous fiasco.
i have never been on motorbike, but im thinking this bike, now be serious, for a biginner, is this bike safe, and easy to handle just for regular everyday use?
@WTq39 Haha no worries, here's my car review: "seems to have too many wheels." Seriously, we do intend to branch out and do some nice car pieces. We just find bikes so much more exciting and interesting... And it's easier to make fun videos when you're passionate about your subject. Also, let's not forget, cars are so well covered in the mainstream media that we feel we'd have less to add. But we'll see.

Spectacular review! Thx. feel the same way about the 1198. Wish I could buy one. Just the engine sound and dry clutch and valve clatter is worth buying the bike for.

that was a fantastic review.
always loved the Ducati sound.
hot damn! now I am really tossing up between the S1000RR and the 1198 for a next bike. does the 1198 have the option of a quickshifter?
Great video. Very informative, well written, comprehensive (road, track, racing, tech) and perfectly executed.

I always liked the 999 , wished I bought one looking back
@cricket12ish Really depends on your age, driving record, and amount of time you have had a motorcycle license. Are you in the United States?

@UCMolosser ok cool..thank you....so the 1198 is better on overall performance.....but the gas is better on 848.....one more thing.....do u know how long a 848evo can last on a full tank of gas..(MPG)?? thanks again
why can't all bike reviews be this good??
hey, i have always wondered this, why do the bikes always have just that one light on?
A professional video. Ever thought of contracting out to MCN :-0
Yes, the white really does look better!
Awesome review!! They are beautiful for sure, and specs are impressive. But they have no comfort riding on the street.
This video feels brand new everytime i watch it.
Best review ever
I'm looking for a good sports motorcycle, should I get the 1198 or the 848 EVO?
Just bought a 1098 with 9k miles on it for £6700.. Full 70 mil system with slash termis and race ecu.. loads of carbon.. 😍😍
I'm just trying to figure out what is the quickest way to rake together 22,000 USD for the 1198 SP.
@CaptianPugwash173 it is on the Great Ocean Road
Astronomically expensive in my area.i Will still want one if got the chance.excellent video thanks...
Love my 1098s too
a friend of mine got this exact bike and he was 6 foot. i'm 6'2" and we both have no trouble planting both feet at all. seat height is around 32 inches i believe.
