I actually miss the novice group, thesre was zero ego. My 2c for anyone starting out: when you get up the groups, just like racing, ride for yourself. So much fun. Awesome vid!!
Awesome video. Good job. Your first track day video with the 996 prompted me to get serious about doing one myself on my 998. I did one this summer and I am itching to go back.
Congrats on getting out there with your 998! I need to make it a point to get out to at least one track day a year. It's good for keeping riding skills sharp at the very least, but mostly it's just good fun 😄
So I just recently bought an 848 and have been looking through your videos for maintenance tips then I saw your plate in the very first episode and noticed its a JOCO plate! I grew up in Olathe and live in Pittsburg, KS now. So cool to see a local RUclipsr! I've been to heartland park many times to run a Drift car me and buddy built. I definitely didn't get as good of a deal as you did on your bike so I'm going to be diy'ing the hell out of it haha! I'm already super thankful for your videos. Maybe we can meet up in person some day?!?! Thanks again!
Amazing Series, just bought a Streetfighter 1098S and went through the same process to go back on the road with a brand new bike ! Nice riding too, cheers from France !
Nicely done! 😎👊❤🏍 Would love to see more motorcycle track day videos. Just started doing track days last summer/fall. Most fun I've ever had on a bike. Thanks and keep yourself safe! Randy .....almost forgot, thanks for using horizon lock with the video. Makes watching way more enjoyable. 😉👍
@@PracticalEnthusiast I had a question about getting tech’d… would you be able to go over what most tracks look at? I signed up for a track day at Road America years ago only to fail because my oil drain plug and oil filter was not wire tied.
Tech inspections must vary widely across tracks and event organizers. I say that because the tech at this one was fairly minimal. Checking brake pads, controls, tires, & leaks. Safety wiring wasn't needed for anything and you can run with antifreeze.
@@rushmatic , I have been to RA, as I live in NW Wisconsin. Sorry to hear they were jackwagons with Tech. A track day or school is not racing and they should chill and be happy to have you.
It sounds like you are paying an awful lot over there! I hear the old Yamaha RD350's have a big following. I had several here in the U.S. when they were cheap.
@@captainamerica9353 yes mate you are absolutely correct. Also from 2021 all two stroke vehicle s are banned. Shit bikes cost a fortune here. You guys are lucky mate. 👌👌👌
@@acceleratefaster46 , my understanding is that 2 strokes are not officially banned, but unofficially, in that they can't pass the new Emissions laws. Are they no longer being made? Are the 2020 and older ones grandfathered in, such as the old RD's?

on the traction control and pirelli tires - just need to pay attention on the size of the tire i.e. 60s vs 55s if the standard is 60 and u opt for a 55 for whatever the reason you need to manage the settings on the dtc - "need to" is more like "its better"
Great evolution! I’m preparing to try my first track day event next summer at Estoril Race track with my VFR400 NC30. Now… I wonder what happened to your gorgeous yellow 996?
Riding at Estoril would be a dream! I hope you can fit it into your schedule because you'll have a great time with that NC30. The 996 went to a new home. It allowed this bike to happen though 🙂
@@PracticalEnthusiast I’m sure you did the right thing and it looks like you improved a lot on your riding skills but… that 996 was the ultimate eye melting beauty! ;)
How about the traction control!? Did you use it!? And what was the number of the DTC that you used on track!? Tks, awesome videos! And keep pushing! ✊🏻✊🏻
Thanks! Traction control was on and set to level 4. I felt it kick in a few times! But overall I was impressed by the Power GP tires that made it easy on the traction control system.
Nice riding! Your cornering is looking really good. Seems to me you have great trust in the tires and the overall grip the bike provides. Was that something that came natural to you?
Thanks! This was my 4th bike track day, so I've gained more confidence as I've gone along. The bike itself is stable and fast which definitely makes me look better than I am 😄
@@PracticalEnthusiast you are very humble, which suits you well. Did you learn to drag your knee yourself? Or did you participate in a training course?
@@dfkuipers I watched enough motorcycle racing on TV to get an idea of the "correct" riding position in a turn 😄. I still have a long way to go on that though. But, once the bike is at enough of a lean, and your body position is slightly hung off the bike, knee dragging just "happens". It was a little alarming the first time it happened, but after that I started figuring out the amount of speed I needed to carry through a corner to drag a knee. I'm much better at it going left than I am going right, but a lot of that comes down to the track having more left hand turns to practice with.
Great riding!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would love to see a diagram of the track and the areas you liked the most or where you feel the bike performed the best etc. Anyway well done!
Thanks! I knew I forgot something 🤣 I saw some riders using a cool phone app that tracked them on the track with GPS and showed telemetry data. I'll have to look into getting that for next time.
@@PracticalEnthusiast Yes that would be great but I was talking about something simple, like printing out a map of the track and showing us the good and not so good areas.
Just curious, stock brake pads? I don’t ride bikes so this is all new to me. The braking seemed longer than I had anticipated. Still one fast machine! And smooooth is fast. Nice work.
Yeah, this was on the stock pads. I noticed a small amount of fade each session but bikes are otherwise easy on pads. I've since thrown in some track/street pads for next time though.
Loving the content dude! How did you manage to get your 1198 to run so well? I have the 1098s, and it’s been plagued with stalling issues! Any suggestions? 🙏
I haven't done anything other than routine maintenance, so I'm not sure! But, I'd suggest looking into your Throttle Position Sensor. They do tend to fail, get broken during belt changes/valve adjustments, or fall out of adjustment. They are independently replaceable: www.gothamcycles.com/ducati-magneti-marelli-throttle-position-sensor-tps--potentiometer-ipf2cb-749999-8481198-sf-monster-s4rs-st3.html Note: You will need to run the "relearn" procedure on the ECU when installing a new TPS.
That's something you would likely start experimenting with in the intermediate group and then ask a riding coach to follow you to watch your movements and give feedback.
The track has some decent elevation change but it doesn't show up well in the video. For example the start/finish straight leads uphill into a blind crest right-hander.
My old stomping grounds. Grew up there and remember when Heartland Raceway was built. NGL pretty jealous right now watching. Cheers!
