    I've spent so much money on accessories by now, that I wouldn't mind Quest 3 being more expensive as long as it has enough stuff so that I don't have to buy accessories.

      @jaybratt  3 года назад +27

      I agree Hiki, I never had to get any major accessories for my psvr as it was already comfortable and nice. I know this is more customized but I miss that ease.

      @zwenkwiel816 2 года назад +1

      accessories do give you options though, like I wouldn't mind a universal connection system for headstraps so you can just mix and match headstraps and headsets. ofcourse that's not going to happen any time soon but if I could just plop my Rift S Halo onto my quest 2 I would in a heartbeat. now I'm just sitting here watching this video while waiting for my M2 Pro to arrive cuz my head hurts from playing too much RE4VR with the default headstrap XD

    • @Its_A_Gundam
      @Its_A_Gundam 2 года назад +1

      @@zwenkwiel816 Not all that far fetched of an idea. Standards already exist for other things. USB, SD cards. Look at the ISO for countless other examples. Bad ergonomics cause injury. Having a standardized attachment system would benefit both customers, with more readily available options for a more comfortable safer VR experience.

    I'm glad that there are seemingly viable alternatives to solely relying on the Quest 2's internal battery, but I hope that if the Quest 3 comes out, it's internal battery's charge will last significantly longer than the Quest 2's internal battery. And I wish they would make the Quest 3's internal battery easily replaceable, like a mobile phone's battery; you just take off a cover/protector of some sort and take the dead battery out and put the new battery in, without requiring tools to do so with at least the removal of the internal battery, itself. Maybe even allow for different kinds of internal batteries, also.

    • @jaybratt
      @jaybratt  3 года назад +11

      The 3 should have a halo strap with the battery built into the back and hot swappable in my opinion. Basically something like this but an even bigger battery. We shouldn't need all these solutions but here we are David 😊

    • @davide724
      @davide724 3 года назад +2

      @@jaybratt I haven't tried any other straps for the Quest 1 or 2 other than the straps that came with them, but I was considering buying the Quest 2 elite strap with battery, but thanks to you and others, I seemingly dodged that bullet.
      I don't understand why they put such a crappy internal battery in the Quest 1 and 2. There are smart phones that have internal batteries that their usage time is significantly longer and charge as quick if not quicker than either Quest, for a fraction of the cost to buy. Given, the Quest isn't exactly like a smart phone, but it seems similar.
      I've seen some pretty cool looking new vr headsets with seemingly promising new features from other companies, and I'm hoping if the Quest 3 comes out, we'll get at least some of those features; such as: a sliding ipd adjustment like the Quest 1, and those "pancake lenses" that supposedly provide a clear image and make god rays non existent. Plus, you can turn one lense like a dial and adjust the focus so people don't have to wear their glasses inside the headset no more or buy prescription lenses, either. Plus they're lighter, smaller and more elegant (in my opinion) in design than any of the current Quests.
      It seems the future of vr is here to stay and will continue to improve, hopefully. Maybe we'll have the option to customize vr headsets like a pc, eventually.

Yeah I could have used velcro but the pad was super cheap and doesnt ever move around like a couple of spots of velcro might. Also the strap was one of the places they cut corners on the Q2 to reduce the initial purchase price.

    Important, detailed question: Can you elaborate on the top pad things?
    The original ones dug into my head to the point where they'd leave red spots and literally give me a headache during a play session. They felt like they were a bit too low for my tall-ish head and designed for people with really short skulls. Adjusting the white side-arms to be as vertical as possible and then pushing the headset to my face before bringing the back down snug seems to have helped a fair amount but it would be slightly too snug on the face.
    Do the new top pads have drastically reduced pressure and are they up any higher?

    • @jaybratt
      @jaybratt  3 года назад +3

      They don't seem to be up any higher, I think they just added much thicker wider padding. If you got one I'd suggest getting the extra padding kit and just putting the big rear pad over those top two: ruclips.net/video/FaPWvbAcaoQ/видео.html
      It may not be worth it but if you really wanted the battery functionality it may be an option.

    • @SomeoneElseOverHere
      @SomeoneElseOverHere 3 года назад +3

      Eureka! It seems a simple thing was making it worse, which probably seemed so obvious that original M2 reviews and instructions never mentioned it.
      Dave Drawing's vid was describing adjustments I'd never seen in other vids when I realized that the whole point of a halo strap is to tighten the halo itself as the holding point. I was previously clamping my head between the facepad and the back of the strap.
      Even using the halo properly, the top parts are still a couple of millimeters too low in any configuration that puts the headset low enough for optimal viewing with my big noggin. I hope reviewers like yourself might soon suggest raising those things up a couple of millimeters in addition to the increased padding. I've been surprised that no one else has noticed how insanely low those things are.
      Thanks @@jaybratt. If they just raised those little things a couple of millimeters (and compensated with thicker padding if necessary), I feel like it would be an optimal strap for even more people.

    I’m about to get one of these because of your review, but my main concern is the ability of the halo strap to not slide while also not giving me a pressure headache. I read a lot of reviews said it slides and in the past, any halo strap either wouldn’t hold to my head because it slides with my long hair, or I tighten it a ton to keep it from sliding but get a major headache. What have you noticed?

      My first pick would be the Bionik Mantis for psvr. You can see our review here: ruclips.net/video/aZs-t8VejIY/видео.html they fit well, match the aesthetic, two things I don't love: the cable comes from the bottom so hiding it is impossible and they're not super long so depending on your head shape you may need to rock the back of the strap a little low for them to reach your ears. I just really liked how they stayed on and weren't one more thing to deal with to get into vr. Hi, i just received my boboVR M2 pro.
    However, when i shake my head left/right, the quest 2 wobbles. I think is because the plastic of boboVR M2 pro is not sturdy enough.
    In comparison, my panda VR halo mod make the Quest 2 stay in place when i shake my head.

    • @jaybratt
      @jaybratt  2 года назад +1

      I think it may be because of the extra weight from the battery so you have weight on both sides allowing it to shake. Idk if it's my head shape or what but I've been lucky to not have this issue. Try putting the back real low on your skull and remember the side arms on the Quest 2 itself can be adjusted up or down to try to find a better fit. Hopefully it works but if not maybe return it as Bobo is making a strap for people who have the wobbling issue and it launches soon.

      I've seen a few other people mention that. I haven't had issues but I have an admittedly large head. Head shape has a lot to do with it but also your facial interface you use will too. Silicone likes to slip if you sweat at all so there's plenty of factors at play here.

  • @burger1113
    @burger1113 3 года назад +2

    I really wish they would design a headset so the main battery is built into the strap behind the head somehow. It would mean less heat and weight in the headset, better balance and so on. The battery could be modular so they could be swapped out like how most laptops used to be. I guess getting different headstraps to work with that would be complicated, but it shouldn't be too tricky either.

    • @jaybratt
      @jaybratt  3 года назад +1

      I fully agree Junu! We haven't seen a headset have a proper built in counter weight since the PSVR. Being corded it didn't need a battery but someone should take note and do this with new wireless headsets. It would add more expense to the Quest 2 and they really wanted to hit that $300 price point (hence the crap head strap) but this would make headsets far more comfortable.

      I wish it had that back communication too. The lights on the battery are the only reading sadly.
      Have your 10yo try lowering the rear strap to the base of his skull, move the lenses in so they keep a firm pressure around his eyes. If that helps but you need a little more try unhooking the front top strap that goes in between the headset and forehead strap and that may give it some extra adjustability. I'll see what I can do about making a video like you said.
