- Even though I've been to Magic Mountain plenty of times, it feels like I never get to get on this ride as much due to it often being closed! Luckily it just reopened after a year long refurbishment, and it is running better than ever!

I'm glad that people are starting to appreciate this more. I felt weird saying its #4 in the park but now people seem to be on board. It does haul all the way until the final turn into the brakes. First half is great. 2nd half is boring though.
I have it as #6 in the park. I still put Tatsu #3, Riddler's Revenge #4, Full Throttle at #5. But I agree that it's underrated.
Honestly, now that Green Lantern is gone SFMM doesn't really have any bad coasters. Goliath is underwhelming and it should've been a B&M hyper but it's still not bad. Superman is still really cool, even if Intamin makes more impressive launches on other coasters. And I don't care what people say about Viper, it's still fun and a great piece of Arrow history. And even the classics like Goldrusher and Ninja are still fun and great for families.
Now if only Six Flags would finally buckle down and give this place a giga. I know they probably won't but they should.
Yep
@@zacg_ Ninja is always one of the best night rides in the park. Goliath should have had the upward helix Titan has, makes it so much better.
@TheDemonCat92 I get the point of your comment but in all seriousness a free spin giga would actually be pretty cool if it had some really tall drops like a scale version of some of the European zac spins. But if it just went back and forth like the regular free spins then it would be stupid. Can you image a vertical drop of 250 feet (I doubt they would do the full 300 as one of the drops on such a ride) on a free spinning train and then the Gs you'd pull while simultaneously spinning as you then quickly turn around at the bottom only to ascend another 180 feet to the next portion of the coaster? It would be more intense and insane than Eejanaika and I305 combined.
What would you rate it
The front row, night time, fright fest, fire, IT WAS CRAZY!!! I’m glad that MM is my home park
I miss when it was still Terminator Salvation. The themeing was so epic. The queue had T-800s, there was on-ride music, the tunnels had mist, and there were SFX explosions. Damn, it was awesome
Just letting you know, it’s been running the same speed since it reopened. I heard a night ride during fright fest is insane.
Magic Mountain is so stacked that it’s overshadowed
Apocalypse is lowkey the best underrated coaster at magic mountain.
Twisted Collosus isn't the best coaster there??
@@catfishandbass8680 keyword: "underrated"
@@tsuunamiz3864 I'm retarded, I know.

Nice job tayler...
He manifested it
I went on this when I went to magic mountain during my fall break. I totally agree with what you said about being the third best. Keep up the good work man.
The station flyby is the best part I LOVE THIS RIDE
Dosware Pictures Troy, Wodan
@@DoswarePictures Wodan's flyby is amazing! I love how twisted it is compared to other flybys where the track is just flat (like Troy).
Home park. Tragically underrated ride. The thing is relentless, like riding a bull that is also riding a rocket. Super fun.
Surprised that they didn't also reopen the ride as Terminator: Dark Fate: The Ride.
That's a joke for those who know this ride's original theme.
@@DoswarePictures Ah, so that's why all the Hanna Barbera properties were gone from Camp Cartoon when I revisited in August.
I was confused about the original themeing since this is a wooden coaster and the Terminator is made of metal.
Austin Argo I wouldn’t want a good coaster based on a bad movie
5 Times in a day?
*Laughs in 8 night rides in a row*
But yeah, it absolutely HAULS through the track. It is criminally underappreciated and on the back row the first half is one of the best experiences I've had on a coaster that I remember.
I went on it yesterday for the first time ever. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. After I got of I was giggling like crazy and I immediately wanted to go back on it. It one of my favorites at the park.
As someone who's home park is Magic Mountain, I can attest that this ride is really underrated. One of my favorite coasters at the park.
Who else is loving this upload schedule for coaster studios
Magic Mountain is my home park and I'm not ashamed to say that Apocalypse is one of my favorite rides there. I've always really enjoyed it. It's not in my top 3 as those are Twisted Colossus, X2, and Tatsu. But it's definitely up there and I ride it every time I visit.
I remember when this ride first opened as Terminator Salvation, replacing Psyclone (which was a PoS). It was my first GCI “twister” layout like this and I could not believe how fast it felt. Easily one of my favorite coasters in the park - when it runs well (which it usually does) it blazes through its layout. It did start having some jackhammering the last few years so I’m glad they fixed it with the retracking.
I feel like Taylor is starting to appreciate sfmm more and that's just great :)
So UNAPPRECIATED. Glad it's now getting some love cause I love that ride. It's a lot of fun and I think it's better than Gold Striker.
Who else wants a Top 10 GCIs that Taylor's ridden?
Anyone else here during quarantine and hear Taylor say, “a virus is spreading”
Hmm
Yeah I wonder if they’re going to consider retheming it after this ordeal.
I think they will retheme lmao
I was not expecting this review
Great memories. We waited until we were 21 to visit California to ride this! That was 1981!
I'm glad that over the years you have started to recognize how good Six Flags Magic Mountain really is. In your earlier videos you seemed to have mixed views. Nothing better exemplifies that than your total evolution on X2.
Cedar Point gets all of the love but I think Six Flags Magic Mountain is a close second in terms of coaster lineup (at least it was close until Steel Vengeance opened.) And Cedar Point is clearly a nicer park in terms of aesthetics. But I don't think any park except Cedar Point has a better coaster lineup. It really is a fantastic (albeit somewhat trashy looking) park.
Zac G magic mountain closed the gap a little with WCR, and if they add the rumored custom raptor next year dare I say I think they take the crown back
Glad this ride is getting the attention it deserves.
Magic mountain is my home park and I can confirm it almost always runs like that since the re tracking Me and my friend group always re ride
I loved this so much when I first rode it in 2013. Hated it in 2016. Good to hear it’s running well again.
This is at my home park and I check if it’s open every time I go there. Apocalypse is an awesome ride and it always hauls through the layout. It feels “too fast” every day and I love it. Totally underrated and an amazing ride.
Taylor,
1. I'm surprised that Apocalypse has had a lot of downtime (which is unusual for a GCI)
2. What major trips you got planned for 2020?
Ooo I hope he goes to Australia next year. Or China.
@@madelinegarber7860 I think China is likely.
@@DoswarePictures if it turned out to be Australia, might as well stop by Indonesia as well. All those juicy 78 credits...
JK, though those wooden wild mice might be worth checking(and mini Mr Freeze aka Not-Racing Coaster worth parodying)
@@harrisonschneider8333 You poor innocent soul
Havent ever rode it before this retract, but man, this ride REALLY suprised me. And dont even get me started on a night ride on apocalypse!
Can confirm, as a California native, *even when this coaster was at its roughest*, this coaster HAULS through its layout.
It’s always like that, which, unfortunately, I think is what is contributing to it tearing itself apart slowly over time...
Unlike GP, I know supports buckle a little under the stress of trains passing over, but if you sit and watch this thing carefully, you can tell that wood sees a lot of stress on the daily the way it shakes.
Super glad you reviewed this ride. It is undoubtedly the most underrated coaster on the west coast!! Great video!
we agree with you one hundred percent !!!
We frequent magic mountain and Apocalypse is riding phenomenao !
It has been retracked twice already, l think it was just different portions of the track but every time it came back into service it was significantly better than before. Just an amazingly addictive coaster.
So glad apocalypse is getting recognized now. 3rd favorite ride at MM. so glad MM is my home park!
Agreed. I went the first weekend of fright fest and it was amazing. Thought I saw some Terminator stuff years ago but thought I imagined it but thank you for clarifying that
I got, I think 6 rides on this the 2nd weekend it was open. In the morning it was basically walk on the whole time, but I didn't expect it to haul the way it was, nor did I expect those insane laterals. Really glad nobody ever sat next to me because if they did, my head would've been in front of their chest 😂
I'm glad the park properly retracked it this time, as the coaster is running the best it has since 2011-2012. Hopefully the park keeps up on maintenance this time, otherwise it could very well be bad in a year or two. I'm not quite as blown away by it as you are (perhaps due to being a local), but it did jump from 9th to 5th at SFMM for me so that's a major improvement.
Oh hey I rode this just yesterday! Glad to see CS cover it
Same
Was there at fright fest
Definitely in the top 5! Although the 2-5 can alternate depending on the day and how they are running!
1. Twisted Colossus
2. Full Throttle
3. X2
4. Apocalypse
5. Tatsu
Austin McKeon that is definetely the top 5 but I would rank It this way:
1. X2
2. Twisted colossus
3. Tatsu
4. Full throttle
5. Apocalypse
@@MrGaju2001 perfect top 5
I’m OBSESSED with Wooden coasters!! Like my FAV ride aside from the music express!
Rode it a month ago on the membership thing. Didn't remember it at all but I did remember the Psyclone t-shirt I had in the 90's. LOVE my home park!
Totally agree got to ride it a couple times in October and it was flying through smooth as a woody should.
I rode this in 2017 and i thought it was fantastic back then. I can only imagine how good it is now
We currently live in San Antonio and we are getting a GCI with Millennial Flyers over at SeaWorld everyone is super excited about it.
I'm so happy it's open again! I have loved it since it replaced Psyclone. It's so much fun and yet it's so underated!
With magic mountain being my home park I gotta say that I 100% agree. This coaster is great! When I went it had just reopened and it was smooth *still has a little rattle* but that’s what makes the experience so good. Back when the ride was not as good or more rough around 2015 I thought it was really bad and one of the lower end rides at the park now it is probably on my top 5 in magic mountain 10/10 great coaster
I rode this in 2009, when it was new, and haven't been back to Magic Mountain since. I plan to be back there in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll be able to see if it lives up to my memory of it.
Damn it’s really been 10 years, crazy how hyped i was for this when I was 13 lol
I remember just riding apocalypse back in October and totally agree such an underrated ride and it felt like it just opened it’s my 5th favorite ride at the park at the moment 1. Tatsu, 2. Goliath, 3. Riddlers revenge, 4. Twisted colossus (had some rough rides on it)
I rode this on 1-3-19 very back row and it was hauling all the way! Great ride but a little short.
Fun ride indeed! I have only had the chance to ride this once but it was decent. This ended up being #1000 for me.
The only woodies I've ridden are Ghostrider at Knott's, The Giant Dipper in San Diego Mission Beach, and this one. I can already say this is going to top any more that I ride for a while.
I all ways liked this coaster. Glad it's back!
Please say I am not the only one who wants Discovery Kingdom to get a new GCI because of new Apocalypse
I rode this coaster several years ago and was really impressed with it it was so much fun and so intense. It goes to show how you can make a great coaster without having to put in inversions and super steep drops.. I also rode the coaster it replaced years ago which was also intense but really rough I think it was called Psyclone
Like West Coaster Racers (assuming when it opens it's not a nightmare with being reliable), this is just a coaster that got put at a park "just because it's magic mountain it needed another." I think part of the design got six flags being annoyed with GCI over spilled milk, and they haven't gotten one since, so yeah. I imagine this being at like six flags great adventure or six flags fiesta texas (they could use a GCI, since there only other is an RMC, though seaworld texas beat them too it), it'd be way, way more seen and appreciated.
I hope Six flags will work with GCI again.
A dueling one with the new gen trains and inversions would be the next best fit for six flags great adventure, that's 4sure.
I know getting really ahead with the bigger custom single rail RMC but i-box track conversions wise all I can see them caring to do is RMC predator (the rest will probably never happen, glad for roar to be left alone at least), they do need a new direction past smaller single rails (get the one from the original advertisement video at six flags america and/or st. flags st. louis aka not railblazer/wonder woman clones).
i rode this in april 2018, and it was amazing. Top 5 at the park for sure!
I have to ride this ride again to see how I like it. i remember first riding it when it first came out, I like it as it was smooth. When I came back 7 years later to ride, it was the ride I hated because it was really rough and bumpy.
I couldn’t agree more with your assessment - it’s the first drop of the famous defunct Rye Playland Airplane and the giant curve Fred Church put on do many of his west coast pier coasters. I think this coaster is every bit as good or better than Ghost Rider, now that they’ve both been given some TLC - throw in the Belmont Giant Dipper to top off your Southern California wood coaster trio!!
In fact I love Jeff Pikes rides so much Ive written an article about him for RollerCoaster!
I am so happy you did this!!
great apocalypse roller coaster review at six flags magic mountain gci wooden coaster !!!
In 2018 I was there and did not ride it at all, heck I only got on 5 roller coasters 1 ride each but they were all the top 5! Twisted Colossus, Tatsu, X2, Super Man, and Full throttle. I also got on X2. I am going again in 2022 and am so excited for it!
Rode this back in 2011 and getting back on it this week. Very excited to hear it's going like it was several years ago. It was crazy back then too. Curious to see how this compares to Prowler now, which blew me away after several night rides a few months ago.
I agree. I love this ride.
I rode it yesterday and it was still running like you said it was it was amazing
This ride does pack a punch. It never feels like it’s 50 mph. I just love screaming my butt off on it. It’s super fun and it’s definitely top 5 for me.
Yes finally views of this ride is starting to shift! I've had it at 4th place at mm since 2016 so it always amazed me when people put it in the 8-10 spot or say it's a bottom tier GCI. The ride absolutely hauls from the drop to the brake run and is completely nonstop
As someone who frequently goes to SFMM I can confirm it is usually that fast
It always runs like that lol. I got a night ride on it at FF at 12 at night. It’s better than tatsu, definitely agree with this whole video. Glad this is my home park.
Can’t wait to ride it 12/25/19
I rode this in 2016 and i loved it even then. I always wondered why people hated it, it was so smooth and fun
I rode it back when it was Terminator Salvation and I remember it being rough if not a bit rougher than GhostRider before it got fixed up. Need to reride it now that its fixed because I heard its really good now
This roller coaster ride is an ADVENTURE!!!😄👍❤
I really loved this ride when I rode it the first time :)
I got to ride this before it opened to the public I've always felt it was underrated anyway great video I feel the same way you do about this coaster
Just rode it today for very first time. I like the seats are very well Cushioned but I thought it was a bit rough remind me of mean streak at cedar point before it was changed
Im glad it reopened because this is such a great coaster
Ive ridden this over 20 times since it opened and it HAULS. It wasnt just a good day for the ride. Its legit one of the top 4 coasters in the park. Being X2, Twisted Colossus, and Tatsu as the other 3.
i never went on backrow on apocalypse and front row is the best i love it
I think a more impressive fact than the top speed is what the average speed is,this coaster never slows down,it keeps getting faster!no slow downs or brakes,it literally feels like you hit top speed right before the ride ends!!
I’m very anticipated to ride the retrack of this. I’m just trying to find a time to go
Good review!
Now if Magic Mountain will continue the theming trend for the rest of the park, it's such a gorgeous park (when they wanted It too). If they made it more immersive and tied the roller coasters theming with the lands more it would be awesome.
I bet they'll retheme Screampunk to the Great Depression, or whatever this one will be.
Back row is amazing! Front row is boring. It does noticeably slow down on that final turn right before the brakes. It's my 2nd fav in the park.
The queues theming is pretty fitting now
I went to magic mountain November 2nd 2019 for my birthday 🎂 and it's my 5th favorite ride
It’s the ONLY woody at SFMM. Everything else is steel. The tactile feeling of this ride and the laterals really make this ride stand out in the park.
This is my #2 coaster at Magic Mountain
Best part of the video was at 0:17 when a guy was tryna touch the entrance sign.
I really struggle at making a top list for magic mountain because I can’t choose my top rollercoasters. I have 3 that could be number 1, but they are all different types of coasters with different elements, styles, and experience.
Top 3 (with no specific order)
Tatsu (soar through samurai summit, that pretzel loop, and just get an amazing view of the park)
Twisted Colossus (lots of airtime and it has that dueling concept which I love)
X2 (wicked elements. Plummeting drop, the raven turn at the end, sometimes it has Music and/or fire)
The rest of the list is
4. Apocalypse
5. Batman
6. Full Throttle
7. Goliath
8. Scream
9. Revolution
10. Ninja
The others just don’t make me smile or are really painful.
One thing I dislike about Tatsu is the vomit you see at the end. I went to Holiday in the park and at the end, I saw pink throw up and it looked like it was fresh. Good thing is that the smell couldn’t reach my nose. It doesn’t affect my overall experience of the ride though.
For me a good day at six flags means riding at least 8 of the coaster in the list plus crazanity and drop of doom.
Just goes to show, wooden rollercoaster's are here to stay!
4:08 so apocalypse is basically The coronaviristhe ride
I guess it was the apocalypse.
I rode this for fright fest for the first time ever. Pretty fast and intense the whole time.
You still need to do a Troy review tho! Nice video as always!
YES plssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
0:17 He touched the sign, yes!
You should make a "Coaster Studios
Top Ranked Coasters" video, a video that will cover the best things parks did with their coasters and the unexpected good queue lines and layouts.
Smoothest wooden I’ve ever ridden.
You guys remember when they did that Shadows of Evil thing on this ride.
Fast as hell rode it twice and it was hauling. However, I wasn’t wow’d. I did do back row as well. Fun ride though.
its hauls took my son on it with my younger cousin and his friend amazing
