For the second story, I just wanted to combine Danny's "noted down over a long period of time" and Jordan's "trying to give criticism". Sometimes when people want to bring up small criticisms, they feel like one small thing isn't enough, so they slowly build up a list of these small criticisms because then it feels more justified when there's a lot of them. The above statement isn't meant to be a defense for the guy, but a lesson to us all. It's okay to have small conversations about small changes or topics. We don't need to wait for situations to balloon up into multiple issues before we start talking through them. And it shouldn't just be for criticisms, but also for things you are grateful for. Reminding the people around you about the small things you enjoy that they do is important too.

In the third story what I immediately noticed was in the story the sister immediately got defensive of her cooking. So she probably has an underlying self consciousness about how people don’t like her cooking. She knows people don’t like it and that upsets her. This could even be the first time someone has been so brazen to tell her about it.
this last one is so easy. people didnt like what she did before, right? so she brings what she wants to bring and those that dont like her stuff previously dont try it. if she complains, you have the perfectly reasonable ground of saying you arent comfortable with the expanded palette experience and are looking forward to eating the traditional stuff. eat the trad dishes, get full, and she goes home with all her untouched dishes again. one day it will click you can absolutely make the dish. you can absolutely bring it. no one should be forced to have it if theres other food. just like how you cant expect a vegan to eat turkey, or maybe someone has a consistency issue and doesnt like mashed potatoes, you can absolutely stand your ground and go “no thank you, but thank you anyway” when presented with the food
Anyone who's actually intimidated by cooking, don't be. I went from maybe cooking once a month to getting a job as a prep cook, where I make restaurant-sized batches of gumbo, etouffee, alfredo, bread pudding, cheesecakes, among a lot of other things. If you are literate, you can make any Food Network recipe, I promise.
Finally, the long anticipated sequel to the legendary crockpot discourse! And holy mackerel, the pot actually got drowned out in my head by this surrounding Jenga tower of containers (Thanks, Danny, for voicing my thought). I genuinly got scared for these eggs and the strainer + salad that's just thrown in there. To the experimental casserole story I have to say: I'm all for experiments in the kitchen. I love throwing random things into a dish, just to see how it turns out. Or trying out different recipes or things like "what if I use a different type of flour for this thing?" Though IMO you should follow two golden rules: - As with most things about cooking: Use some amount of common sense. You still want to eat this stuff, ideally without poisoning yourself. - Keep experiments to yourself. If you desperately want to poison yourself, at least don't drag your family or whoever into it. Though after hearing this update, maybe you can make an exception for the latter rule...feels like this whole family is insane. So, yeah, just let them do this "great surprise" and watch how it unfolds. It's insane to me how these "random awful dishes" of the sister apparently are a common thing and how everyone keeps defending this even though noone is willing to eat from it. Also, we simply glance over the thing where there's some "family group chat" that excludes the OP for some reason and where they basically plan to crash the event hosted by said excluded OP?

Solution: You simply ask the sister TO MAKE NORMAL FOOD. This goes beyond a passion and falls into forcing bad experiences on other people. You can’t do that.
The third poster describes it like they were completely respectful when asking the sister not to bring a dish, and I don't buy it for a second. The post is chock full of outright derision for the sister's cooking, and I bet the method of telling got a generous smooth over for the post. HOWEVER, sister is definitely the asshole. If someone asks you not to do something so that an event they're hosting will go smoother, and your response is "well now I'll do it TRIPLE" you are always the asshole.

If prepared well then yeah. Some people are iffy on Cranberry sauce (although I don't think that was mentioned), turkey can be too dry if not made properly, and personally I haven't heard of the green bean casserole they were talking about, but generally it's all fundamentally good food.
I think the guy in the second story isn't that bad for making a power point, like, as Jordan said, he probably just couldn't really get to tell to her face that some of her cooking wasn't really to his liking, so, if I were in his shoes, I'd also probably make something fun and lighthearted to open the discussion about cooking. But oh boy did the dude just not understand what's a joke, like for the garlic was it too much to do some self irony with like a baby saying like "this is me when I have to eat a dish too garlicy, I'm a silly little baby please help me". What he did just felt like an excuse to just vent to his girlfriend, expecting her to agree to all the vitriol and accommodate his every wish. He fumbled that chance to be the "sweet, funny boyfriend" so bad
