    Most people think the slapstick comedy in bond films started in the Roger Moore era. The reality is that it started in Diamonds Are Forever.

      hugodrax71 Nope, you probably just prefer Moore Bond films which is why you are saying that. Moore was more of a joker than Connery was, and since you see Bond the most in the movies then you are seeing more humor with Moore's Bond movies.

    I think Charles Gray was the best Blofeld... he is the one BIG redeeming feature in "Diamonds are Forever". I feel a bit sorry for him in this scene. There is a legend that as a very young actor, CG met Aleister Crowley on a train and modelled much of his subsequent act on him.

    • @TimParker-Chambers
      @TimParker-Chambers Год назад +3

      I didn't know that, but, from what I've read about how people have described Aleister Crowley, I can certainly believe it; that cold, precise, aloofness is certainly something people have said about Crowley...

    Yes. Bond kills him, finally getting revenge for Tracy. YOLT was the first time the producers basically disregarded the novel's story, which was a necessity after switching the order of the books. It set, imo, a bad precedent.

    • @Cartoonicus
      @Cartoonicus 2 года назад

      Are we sure they did? I don't recall seeing him after the volcano blows up, so it could be that he was supposed to have deliberately blown himself up with it and they just decided to bring him back later.

    • @zacmumblethunder7466
      @zacmumblethunder7466 Год назад

      @@Cartoonicus DAF is very different in the novel and there's no Blofeld. Blofeld kills Tracey in OHMSS, leaving Bond a wreck. He gets sent on a supposedly easy mission to Japan in the next novel YOLT to see whether there's any hope of him being any use again.

    • @Cartoonicus
      @Cartoonicus Год назад

      @@zacmumblethunder7466 Yes, DAF is actually the one book I've ever read (listened to on tape) so I know it has absolutely nothing to do with the movie.
      What I'm referring to, is since YOLT was supposed to be Connery's last movie, is it possible Blowfeld was supposed to finally meet his end after 5 movies of being the overarching Nemesis, but since we never saw a body, they decided, instead, to bring him back in OHMSS?

    • @zacmumblethunder7466
      @zacmumblethunder7466 Год назад

      @@Cartoonicus Sorry, I misunderstood. I've read a history of the films and it seems they didn't put that much thought into story arcs or continuity. Back then everything, not just Bond, was done as a series of one off stories. With no home entertainment, very few re-releases at cinemas and only random TV showings to bring in further income, there wasn't much incentive to build the sort of franchises we see now. Also it was far more difficult for fans to study the films, especially when they bore only passing resemblance to the books.
      I suspect Blofeld was going to be a recurring villain like Sherlock Holmes's Moriarty, until, well, until DAF.

    We often wonder if Bunt had been eliminated, as she is never seen again, but she was acting on Blofeld's orders so Bond would be more interested in him.

    Well, that's definitely YOLT. Although, to be fair, they would have had to make significant changes to the novel even if OHMSS had come first. It's a very good book but it's very dark and brooding. Bond spends much of the book understandably depressed and isn't paying much attention until he realizes that Dr. Shatterhand (his target) is actually Blofeld in disguise. The book also ends on a down note, with Bond having total amnesia, headed for Russia, and unaware that Kissy has had his child.

    No, Sutton was kinapped by Max Zorin with a blimp. Zorin betrayed May Day, and that's why she helped Bond remove the bomb that was intended to destroy the geological lock. Zorin saw May Day with the bomb, realized Bond was helping May Day get revenge, and that's why Zorin kidnapped Sutton with the blimp. And Another thing: Sutton's name was spelled with an "e" between the "c" and the "y."

    @tinavjohn Confusingly, that's called "007 Theme", as opposed to the famous "James Bond Theme". It's used in a number of the Bond pictures when they want some old-school feel.

    It’s funny ; I guess Tiffany Case landed in the water 💦 and thus survived the 100ft fall , but to watch the scene with her and the surprisingly powerful machine gun you could be forgiven for thinking the poor lady had fallen to her death 💀. I guess that fate is reserved for girls like Tilly Masterson (or was it Jill?) and of course Mrs Bond herself Tracy Vincent?

    Bond movies use to have a great sense of humor now they are deadly serious. How about that torture scene in Casino Royale? My nutz were hurting too after I watched that scene. YIKES!!!

    Enh, I've never actually read the books; when it comes to spy literature, I like the stuff by John le Carre. Though, YOLT is probably one of my favorite Bond movies from childhood, as I tend to prefer the ones that are more brazenly over-the-top and cartoonish.

      not even close....Lois Chiles as Holly Goodhead is number one, Caroline Munro as Naomi (Stombergs Helicopter pilot) number 2, Ursula Andress as Honey Rider number 3, Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova number 4 and Ivana Milicevic as Valenka in Casino Royal...just my favorites ....I dont think Jill is even in my top 10, but again just my opinion

    @jksonny No. He survived to For Your Eyes Only, by then wheelchair bound as a result of this incident shown and then Bond dropped him down a smokestack from a helicopter he commandeered.

    You can thumb this down until your hand decomposes but this is - by a considerable margin - the worst of all 21 (and I'm willing to bet 22) James Bond films. It has absolutely nothing going for it.

    Just a ridiculous scene. Blofeld was continually miscast. Pleasance was awful. Savalas was better but still not quite right. And Gray is completely wrong. None of them is even close to the sinister Number One in FRWL and Thunderball. Personally, I think Christopher Lee would have made a good Blofeld.
