- Ozzy Osbourne, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ted Nugent, Gary Moore, and Thin Lizzy could tell you what it was like working with larger-than-life drummer Tommy Aldridge.
But David Coverdale - Whitesnake’s recently retired frontman - has spent the most time with Aldridge, who has drummed for Whitesnake since 2013 and was a band member from 2003-2007 and 1987-1990.
“He’s a great and well-loved drummer,” Coverdale said in a 2013 interview when Aldridge rejoined Whitesnake.
The wild-haired character is now 71 years old and playing better than ever. In this video, he breaks down Whitesnake’s banger “Here I Go Again”.

What a moment right at 3:54! You can feel the energy of their live shows. 👨🏼🎤👏
Thanks for watching and don’t forget to check out drum-less versions of this song (and 5000+ more) with the all-NEW Drumeo: www.Drumeo.com/new-year/ 💪
One question guys at drumeo....Phoenix series yamaha???? Fantastic sound
I just began drumming for my Church and your channel haZ been so much help! The drummerZ that you get to perform and give lessons are in the top echelon!!! I really appreciate the Tommy Aldridge videos! You're all awesome 👍🤘🤘🥁🥁🥁
🤗🔥🥁🔥🤗
lol. overrated mainstream crap.
Those are Phoenix.. these drums are pretty ridiculous, the kick drum will literally make the room shake the resonance after you hit it is unbelievable, its almost too much
This guy is 72 years old and plays the drums like he's in a bar fight. The man is incredible🤘
I hate to get in way of those drumsticks , headknockers for sure
Tommy is one of MY biggest influences! ♥️
I saw Tommy playing the Drums for Ozzy in February of 1982,on The Diary of A Madman Tour, with Great Bassist Rudy Sarzo, and One of The Greatest Rock Guitarist of All Time,The Great Randy Rhoads,Exactly 6 weeks before His Tragic Death!,It was an Incredible Show,Tommy hasn't lost anything!,He's still beating the Skins as Good as He did 40 Years ago!!!!Keep Rocking On Brother!!!!
Such a modest and humble guy too.
Quê comentário maravilho!!!
Dude still hits harder than 90% of drummers out there. Straight up legend.
Or just very distinct on every move he makes with a LOT of feeling and musicality. Hitting hard is not by default a good or great drummer
The most underrated drummer in Rock history. This guy is a killer.
To say the LEAST!
I seen whitesnake in 90 with Tommy Aldridge he was awesome . One of my favorite drummers
I didn't have him on my radar but wow, he is AMAZING
How in the fuckin world a beast and a class drummer like Tommy is UNDERRATED, dude? Underrated by who???? He has been always TOP.
He’s still killing it at 72! One of my favorite drummers 😊
72 with a power 27 haha
🐶wantsome🐱😇
Another Tommy Aldrige video?!? You spoil us. This dude is a monster drummer and the sweetest man. I hope he reads these comments and sees how much we appreciate him!
Soundtrack to my youth ..and adulthood! Cool to see how humble he is. Imspiring to say the least!
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Lots more where this came from 👊🏻
Wasnt Tommy the drummer for Ozzy on the tribute album? Loved that solo growing up. Still do.
HE'S TOO BUSY
He plays with so much passion and power. Loved it!
And the left hand counting when he swings it over his head… epic drum hero. Power is his thing! So awesome
totally agree 👌👍👍👍
He plays like if he has 17..
What I love about this dude is that in his mind and heart time hasn't passed at all. When he picks the sticks, it's the good old days all over again, you can see it in his eyes. He's playing with Dave and his buddies, having the time of his life.
You can tell that Tommy just loves this music. So much intensity and drive. Very inspiring.
“Stayin’ outta the way of the music” “just hang out in it”.
What a genuinely incredible take on relatively simple drumming. That has honestly completely changed my perspective.
Yup stay in the pocket and wait your turn! Tommy is the coolest
gotta be fun for the players or it won't be fun for the audience :)
This was my take too. Stay out of the way and let the music take care of itself. What a superb philosophy.
This is what made Ringo and Watts great.
@@Meme-zc4cw Watts was less simple than Ringo. People seem to think they had the same "simple" style.
Jesus! I'm not a drummer... but, it's like every hit is going to be his last!!! Complete commitment! Rock on, Tommy!
this is one of the last absolute drum monsters of the golden era! long live to this absolute legend! love you Tommy!
🙁
#takerthebootypiratecaribein
A drummer who respects the singer and doesn't smother the overall sound. Bonzo was also like this in Zep and when needed all hell would break loose
With his passion and seriousness, he's just like Sugarfoot from MJ's band. He was exciting where he needed to be, but served the overall song.
We are down to "zep" now. 😅
There aren't many guys who can be regarded as true drum legends, but Tommy is certainly one of them.
Ok. Just gonna leave this here. The AUDIO ENGINEER is an absolute master! Sounds so very clean and punchy! Worth every single penny! Keep up the stellar work!
Precisely..i wish I knew the yamaha series they were
I agree, this sounds sooooooooooo good.
@@roberttaylor1275 it's the newer PHX series. Pretty much no audio engineer required. Each drum is hybrid shell.
I'm sitting here listening with studio headphones...it just sounds incredible!
@@Abyrne777and still need mic and engineer, it’s hybrid wood not hybrid acoustic electro
My hero from the age of 15 (I’m now 52). I hope that Mr Aldridge is still hired for session and live work. He clearly hasn’t lost a beat. Peace.
Wow, what a performance! He was living in that as if he was playing it in a stadium to thousands of people.Got to respect that energy...
The height of his left hand and the power of his back beat are mind blowing.
What a superb drummer, but what a superb performance. Some on here call Tommy a 'Beast', but I see a musician. This was powerful and heavy, full of showmanship, but so, so musical! Go Tommy, Go!
Look at this man. See his passion and love for music. The personification of Rock n Roll right here. Wonderful stuff.
The epitome of a completely humble, total badass. Mr. Tommy Aldridge!🤘
If I get to Tommy's age and have his energy to walk down the road, I will regard myself as doing well - amazing to see how much energy he puts into his performances even now
Ridiculous how clean and smooth he can be while playing with that much POWER! ❤ he beats the HELL out of his kit. That fill towards the end?...psht. Good dude, too.
80s power ballad drumming is simple but requires so much pocket. Go too fast and you throw off the feel. Go too slow and your band looks back at you like you're an idiot. Tommy makes it look effortless!
Every interview I see of tommy, the man is as nice as he is talented.
Seems remarkably grounded and normal for a "rock star"
Dude is truly a performer. You can see it in every movement he makes!
Tommy Aldridge is the definition of true rock drumming master. He is so good
This guy is an absolute monster and I totally adore his energy at this age!
Just absolutely brilliant drummer! I’m 51 and have been mesmerized by Mr. Aldrige since Ozzy’s Bark at the Moon. What a superb drummer you are Sir!
The world deserves to see a little more of Tommy Aldridge's amazing work, do it while there's still time!!!
curte Whitesnake e é Mengão, ai sim!
The original drummer to this song is Aynsley Dunbar who is also awesome. Also plays on Still of the Night, and Jefferson Starship- Jane.
One of the greatest rock drummers in history....no question.
The great TA. Playing eyes closed to memory. He’s a total phenomenon. An extremely heavy hitter that beats the living hell out of his kit. Love him to bits. 🤘
The older the drummer, the more excited I am!!! Yes please tell us a story and show us what you did. A blessing to still have you here on earth. Thank you Mr. Aldridge!!!!🥁💗
The beat is rather simple but he puts so much heart into it. Thats the secret.
One thing I love about music is to see all these "old guys" that are STILL sharper than a pin, active and playing great and as keen as a 20yo ...Absolute credit to these people! A+++
A classic example of not overplaying. Rock solid drumming!
Dude plays so incredibly powerful to be in his 70’s!
What a beast of a drummer! Amazing drumming and man, what a drum sound!
🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
From his days with Black Oak Arkansas, early-mid 70s, up to right now (2023) Tommy is still at a level most drummers will never achieve. Saw BOA several times and White Snake in 2018 and he's not lost a beat. Met the guy a few times and he is just as coo and humble as you see in the videos. Long live Tommy Aldridge!!!
Tommy’s drumming is what makes this song so epic and full of energy. Especially his fills before the gutair solo
Kudos to the guy who invented the original part, Ian Paice in '82, before Aynsley Dunbar and then Tommy in '87.
Ian Paice “invented” the original part.
@@algreen8035 Ah, you're right. That's one of those old tracks that he brought back again. Forgot about that. I will correct it.
@@CousinWhatIsIt 👍🏼🤘🏼
Only Tommy can bash out a ballad and totally get away with it. His pulse is unmistakable. RESPECT!!!
That cymbal choke before the first verse (4:10) is just brilliance, imho. Nothing fancy, but it absolutely elevates that part of the song live without getting in the way. I'd love to come up with drum parts like this!
He's brilliant and has great timing and an ear for dynamics!
I wish I had done that all the times I was in a band that covered it. Brilliant!
He didn’t come up with it. Aynsley Dunbar recorded it
@@chrissmith3668 - Ansley didn't do that cymbal choke. He recorded the original track. Tommy changed it up a bit.
Tommy's influence can't be overstated- listen to Snortin' Whiskey and the drum sound on that sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. Vinnie Paul in particular loved Tommy, you can hear it in his snappy triplets and insane grooviness
Respect his drumming and musicianship so much
So cool to see a pro playing exactly what a song calls for, Precise , clean and a little flash at the right moments.
As a bassist myself, Tommy is my all-time favorite drummer!
He is the originator of the powerful, staccato drum style!
These aging musicians are a real inspiration for living! Sure you can look at these grannies who are still doing crossift, but the way Tommy is hitting those skins, from above it looks like a young buck that still lives for the metal n' the music like a 20 yr old! 🤘
Fantastic drummer, fantastic human being.
The energy, power and passion by which he plays is legendary. What an amazing contributor to rock music and those who love drumming. I have the highest respect for you Tommy Aldridge, thank you so much for being you. You are loved my friend.
I feel silly sometimes watching these videos because I get those blown away happy emotional tears then laugh at myself. Just imagining the sensation these amazing drummer's must feel faced with a crowd like this. Tommy is an absolute monster behind the kit, and seems such a humble down to earth human. The world may be turning to custard at times, but to have beautiful humans in the world like this is a wonderful thing.
I think you can see that in his face during the intro and coming into the groove, he looks like he's reliving those moments..
At 72yrs of age, this guy is a dinosaur, but the reality is that there simply isn't anyone to replace him, nobody hits harder, sounds better, is more honest and genuine than Tommy Aldridge! . The sweetest guy, but an absolute beast - god bless you man 🤘🤘
Tommy is a legend. I got to see Tommy play live with Ozzy in the early 80's and he's still going strong! One of the original double bass drum masters, he's a beast. Great guy, great drummer!
A humble man with an intact passion for the instrument, each blow is placed with the precision of a surgeon, it is fantastic to see and hear the energy that he displays, which makes his dedication total. A drum master. It's good to see him again in Drumeo and it would be great if he would present Still of the night. Thanks for this stuff.
72 years old !!! Tommy is a legend !
Aldridge rules, his style of playing is so unique and special, and on top of his technical skills and high precision he is got a huge musicality/groove... Living legend.
Always loved Tommy.
Huge inspiration for me in my youth in the 1980s.
I love how he naturally often plays his hi hat foot on the "ands"... A groove is all about where the "ands" are felt.
His solo on the Ozzy/Randy Tribute changed my life and I would bum rides to wherever I had to go to see Whitesnake back when this album came out to watch Tommy play.
He always played a very similar solo and I loved every second of it.
Coolest drummer ever. What a Legend ❤
One of the most iconic old school rock Drummers.... Keep up the power and passion for many more years Tommy
72 years old and still iconic, god bless
Lord Aldridge, powerful as always, it's amazing to see him blasting the drums.
Everything, just everything about it. What can I say? The tone, the playing, the attitude, the wisdom.👌
Tommy Aldridge is an absolute legend with a demeanor that says he’s just a guy. He’s the coolest. And a brother in Christ! 😎
His power, his precision and his passion are priceless... One of the greatest drummers and a huge inspiration!!!
That Carl Palmer Duo Ride cuts. Tommy is such a force. Wonderful drummer.
LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! A beast! Managed to get his drumsticks during my 1st Whitesnake gig 🥲❤️❤️❤
yes he is
Tommy is a legend. Respect!
I WILL NEVER forget the moment I SAW Tommy Aldridge soloing on a Whitesnake show here in Rio in 2012!!!!
Tommy always was my favorite drummer and when I SAW him playing... IT BLEW MY MIND!!!!
I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT!!!!!!
I saw Tommy with Whitesnake a few of years ago... he put out an incredible performance! So much power!
Tommy has rocked so many venues in his life, what an epic life
"Here I Go Again"
One of my VERY favorite songs EVER!!!❤
1 of my favorite songs in the 80s, now i'm 46 & still love listening to it while doing my office jobs today...
The energy from him at his age is unreal!
One of my absolute favorite drummers! Thanks Drumeo for bringing Tommy on board to share how he played this song.
Tommy Aldridge Is A Complete Beast! He Is 70+ & Beating Those Drums Like He Did When HERE I GO AGAIN Came Out!!!
I read an article interviewing Don Dokken he said, once we open for Whitesnake I was in the dressing room and the WS dressing room next to us I hear somebody hitting the drums there and I show up there and saw T Aldridge warming almost the full set there...practically he did the show twice......what a monster!!!
Saw Tommy on the Whitesnake/deep purple tribute tour. He vindicates my drumming. I was told that I hit too hard. I watched Tommy unleash on the drums with confidence and unabated power. It was the highlight of the concert! Pure rock drumming at it's best.
I saw them a couple years ago in a venue of 1,500. Amazing! And Tommy's solo without sticks is just as hard hitting!
Hard Rock drummers never ceases to amaze me. Both legs and hands are employed. So much energy
The man is a legend. Played with all the greats, from Black Oak Arkansas, to Ozzy and Randy Rhoads, to David Coverdale and Whitesnake and many, many others. There's a reason he's still in demand!
I had to look up his age….72 by the way. I find it awesome he still has that snap in his wrists and hits the drums hard. A lot of drummers as they age lose that. He still drums like a young man, good on ya mate!
And does all the stick tricks as well😅 still has nimble fingers, and strong legs as well
Incredible guy. Incredible emotion, passion, force...
Watching Tommy, a true drumming legend, makes one realize how fun drumming is.... Tommy got chops!
I recommend that Live In The Still of the Night London 2004 gig that's shown throughout here. One of the best live concerts this millennium. I have the DVD. It's phenomenal. I promise you.
A fantastic drummer. How he is still doing it physically, i've no idea. His playing with Gillis and Sarzo on Ozzys Talk of the Devil is just outstanding.
That's a fact.listen to pat Travers band live album.even better
I absolutely love watching an artist that has been around for a long time that can still rock it out as well as they did from the start of their careers, if not better!
Tommy is one of the best and greatest guys around. I have his 1987 Yamaha hot red recording custom set from his white snake tour. I’m a very lucky guy to own this piece of historical memorabilia. He is a down to earth guy with such an amazing back ground down to earth guy. I have so much in common with him personally. His heart and history is bigger than his playing all together. The best drummer I have ever heard. Thank you for posting this
I'm old enough to remember seeing Tommy Aldridge on his first tour with Black Oak Arkansas in the 70's.
I was into drums then and don't remember taking my eyes off him. I was amazed by him then and I'm amazed by him now.
And a super great guy to top it off.
The BEST drummer rock all times
Ur fav perhaps n ur opinion.xcellent he b...the best? ..rock?? Soooo many
Shout out to Aynsley Dunbar for his drumming on that entire album.
Totally… Dunber killed it on every songs. Too bad he didn’t have the chance to play it live.
What about a shout out to the original drummer who recorded this song in 1982 the legend that is Cozy Powell
@@Iainrankingtheobscure Good call!
And this is not a slight to Tommy. He is a legend, and apparently defies the laws of aging!
@@LanceEnglandSQL Yes he looked like an extra from the set of Texas Chainsaw Massacre even back in his youth
I remember seeing Tommy play for Thin Lizzy supporting Deep Purple when I was around 12/13 years old - I absolutely loved the helicopter thing he does! One of the best live Rock drummers you will ever see and he's definitely still got it!
Wow!!!! This man is a true legend from the golden era of Whitesnake. What a gifted musician ❤
Tommy is so damn good. The sound of the snare is amazing! Love watching this guy play drums. Super tasteful and tight
Tommy...I was 13 when I watched your "UP" drum solo with Black Oak Arkansas on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. You are my favorite double bass drummer and always will be. I'm also glad to see your testimony on "Drummers for Jesus." I'll see you one day brother.
Saw him at the Hellfest last summer with Whitesnake and let me tell you that his performance and drum solo remains one of my favorite moment of the festival ! His energy is just unmatched 🔥
Thank you Tommy for allowing me to fall in love w/ drums, drummers, and everything drum related.
Este Caballero ya tiene su lugar marcado con letras de oro en la historia del Rock donde muy pocos han llegado y si este género no es rescatado por bandas con la calidad y pasión de antaño será uno de los últimos titanes del Rock.
For me, Tommy's attitude of serving the music, but "how" he slams makes it. You can play time with power, that's how Tommy's always laid it down.
Less is more whenever it is needed. Powerful drumming at it's finest.
Tommy hits so hard but he makes it look effortless. It is so inspiring to watch somebody his age still play as if he was in his 20s.
